As others have said, the ability to tinker and customize and try other OS's and lots of open source apps is why I like a PC.
It's a hobby thing.
PS and iLife and writing and such I do on a Mac.

Not the PC (Machine)

My machine is a nice spec,

I got my XP system back in 2004

2.8 ghz 200GB hd

2 GB ram

It's a nice machine, sometimes runs well

I used windows since i was 6 and know it inside out. I just don't like it anymore. I think its very unstable, not very user friendly and is a virus sack.

Then again, there are some good things about windows. First off it made me go :apple:Mac which is a good thing (lol) ;-)

Microsoft Office is better on the PC for obvious reasons (Up until office 2003, 07 is a shambles.)

Better version of Windows Live Messenger which i use a lot to communicate with friends and family, the version that is built for the mac platform is a joke, unless your just doing the basic messaging.

Gaming! also. PC are nice for gaming, i used to do a lot of gaming as a kid.

Windows PC does have it's good things

Both platforms have there disadvantages

Liked? As for me, I still use a PC. In fact, I end up using it more often than I use my mac. I'm probably one of the only ones around here who prefer the PC interface. I like the bar at the bottom a lot better than Apple's dock / expose solution, for one. There's a wider range of software available, I like the image viewer better than I like Apple's... the list goes on.

Having said that, MacOS does have its good share of upsides too, obviously.

I liked my PC early on, it was fairly cheap and it had a ton of available programs for it (not that I needed many). The romance was exciting, yet brief, however-
I won't get into it - lots of people I know Love their PCs - I was simply wooed by the Mac after getting my hands on one. We're a good fit.

I like my PC because i can go hardcore gaming on it and have a more variety of selections in building or upgrading. along with better programing and coding for me (macs are a lil complicated for me to do that) and thats about it.. i think
i like both so yea little bit of both

I wanted a laptop so I got a MacBook which I'm happy with, but I like building my own desktop machines, and there are no Mac desktops that attract me much. I'd love to repurpose my old 3GHz Xeon HT (SSE2) box as a hackintosh, but this doesn't look promising so far.

Anyway, like some others, I'm a tinkerer. I run mostly Linux, and I run XP in VirtualBox for some things. I'd be happy if I could run Leopard in VirtualBox as well, but I'll probably build a hackintosh just to have some desktop redundancy for the apps I use on the MacBook.

PCs give you a lot of freedom and opportunities to tinker.

How times have changed

Well when I was a kid (pre-OS X days) Windows was better in some ways and I had some great fun gaming on the machine my stepfather assembled. We did have frequent problems (blue screen of death) but he was the designated IT guy to fix it and get the network up again so my friends and I could play Command & Conquer, Quake, Unreal, Half-Life, etc until the sun came up. So many hours of productivity lost - I look back on it fondly.

Now I'm too busy doing music and graphics to be a game enthusiast, and there are still more games for Mac than I have time to play. I had used the Macs at school and was not impressed. My image of the Mac was one of incompatibility and I felt that Apple tried so hard to do things "differently" that practicality was an afterthought (Power switch in the back? One-button mouse? Eject using the keyboard? WTF?).

So years later when I ended up dating a girl who used a Mac I was kind of a snob about my PC and how great I thought it was. But I also noticed that her Mac looked way different than the ones at my old school. It was running OS X, and I had to admit it looked good and was quite stable. Plus she subjected that computer to some rugged use and it still held up well. And I noticed most of her friends used Macs too so I shut up about which platform I thought was better.

I've since been working in the music industry (which is of course virtually ALL Mac). All it really took was exposure to OS X to realize what a great OS it is and how nearly all the things I used to do on my PC I can do on a Mac - and more efficiently. Apple's computers are reliable. OS X is superior to Windows in every way. I am a total convert now. In fact, I'm embarrassed to admit that I was ever a Windows guy. Apple has been good to me. :apple:
[ I will also add that I have respect for Linux although I don't use it personally ]

As far as PC-only programs that I miss:
- chiptunes compiling software
- Wavelab (although Peak Pro replaces it)
- Doom editing software
Plus, there are a few programs I only have PC installers for even though they exist on Mac too.

The SimCity Deli
* Silent Hunter 4 & SH4: U-Boat Missions
* Train Simulator (yup, that old thing from MS)
* Office Professional 2007 under Vista (Ultimate, the stable non-crashing version)
* a whole slew of 3D graphics apps

I have a modern MBPro about to have WinXP under BootCamp so I can fool with Borland's Turbo C++ & Delphi again.

And it's like'. Not liked. I still like mine. Love it. Couldn't live without it. (well - I could - but I don't want to - I certainly don't want a Mac Pro to repalce it)

It ran all my games in it's native OS. I could download almost any piece of cool third party software i came across. It was much cheaper than my MBP. It could run my copy of AE and PP.

In R4, more or less
Top Five Reasons

1) Solitaire > Chess (no patience for chess)
2) Super easy to navigate Windows via keyboard
3) Doom nostalgia
4) Sometimes I still think I'd prefer the application space versus the window space of OS X
5) progman.exe, baby

Having said that, I've been on OS X since 2000, and I actually got my first PowerBook (Pismo) because of the future in OS X, and that has been the single most prophetic computing move I may have ever made. Haven't looked back since.
