The mini 6 seems like a good buy. The question however is how well will it work with the next 3 years of updates.

People who think the Pro Max and mini are around the same size haven't really used the two side by side. There's a huge difference in usable screen area between the two.

I do notice the difference in screen quality, but I like the form factor more. It's easy to toss into a bag and forget about it.

The mini fits into a jacket pocket or a purse, unlike the 11”.
I think this is the reason we’re not on the same page. I live in the southern part of the United States. For the most part our winter jacket is a hoodie. If you live in the northern part of the United States, where you’re wearing an actual jacket then you have bigger pockets.

As to the purse, I can’t find a purse that goes well with the gray in my beard 😂

I used to carry a backpack, but it didn’t seem more convenient to carry the mini versus my iPad Air in it.

Well, you should be comfortable with your sexuality enough to not care what others think. A bag is a bag. It can house other stuff like charging cables, laptop, gaming console, etc., and not make it seem like a historically feminine-oriented product.

Just teasing with the classic perception. For me, I have always liked the Mini because I can fit it inside a jacket pocket when it's colder out or even in cargo shorts pocket when warmer (even though my wife tells me those shorts are well out-dated). I don't want to carry around any additional bag or anything unless I really have a lot to haul around.

Sometimes I carry my iPad Pro 12.9 to work with Magic Keyboard, and sometimes just the Mini and it's a huge difference in weight and size (and type of gadget bag I bring). Brave using the iPad Mini without a case though :O

The weight is because of the Magic Keyboard. It’s a beautiful piece of hardware but when you combine it with the iPad Pro it weighs more than a MacBook Air.

I like the size of the iPad Mini...but I don't like the crap screen, 60hz, and jelly scrolling.

The fact that the phone companies will not allow iPads of any sort to make direct phone calls is what turned me off of an iPad Mini. I though that it is small enough to carry in a possibles bag it could replace an iPhone. But they need a iPhone to do phone calls so that ended that idea. I wanted a new iPad for years but and I intended to get one this year when it came out with the M4 it was an instant purchase. Like others here I plane on have this one for several years to come. I change out my iPhones ever 2 years.

I guess it depends on what you’re doing with it. I have an iPad Air with the same “crap screen” and it looks perfectly fine for what I do. of course that’s just browsing the web and watching movies/ YouTube videos. If I was gaming on it, I would want a higher refresh rate screen. Maybe if Apple ever gets serious with gaming, they could market an iPad mini Pro as a portable gaming device to compete with the Switch.

You can always use Google Voice or some other voip phone service. It sort of works alright. But you still won't get certain SMS shortcode messages unless you have your iPhone on/active.

There was the purse thing mentioned above. I have long carried a possibles bag. This is a shoulder pouch used by Mountain Men in the West c.1830. The name came from "anything is possible" when a Mountain Man described what was in his shoulder pouch. They come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. The trick is to not get one that is too large.

It’s actually stylish for young men to carry what I call a murse. It’s a bag strapped across the chest. I’ve seen people wearing Coach and other high priced brands.

Yeah, don’t buy everything at the same time. The iPads in particular easily last 5-6 years, so it makes sense to spread out the purchases over the years.

And for iPads, it’s better not to buy them at release nowadays since they get plenty of discounts later.

Before, iPads didn’t used to get discounted and they were $499 throughout plus the YOY upgrades were quite significant. Hence, buying early in the release cycle maximizes useful life.

It’s no longer the case now. I actually prefer to buy on clearance deals or Apple certified refurbs now. Massive savings especially for high storage capacity with cellular.

Now if you really want to get glared at use What I have used to store my cables in. This is what those old Mountain used to store their lead balls in. ball bags.

"balls" LUL...I also have a zipper pouch for my cables to organize them better (sort of looks like a oversized makeup zipper bag).

It sounds like you want it because it looks or seems cool but would you actually have a use for it? I used to have an iPad mini, but it doesn’t seem that much bigger than the Max size iPhone but isn’t more portable than the larger iPad. I gave it away because I couldn’t find a use for it. if you can come up with some use that seems practical I might buy another one.

You mentioned the processor, but even if it had an M4 processor, what would you need this for? Are you going to be editing video on an iPad mini?

I think it would be great for someone that has a small iPhone. It’s hard to justify bringing this huge thing that requires at least a cargo pocket if you already have the large iPhone.

I think a simple philosophy is to buy a product when you have a use for it. Don't buy a product and then look for a use for it.

As I said above, the iPhone is the anchor device in the iOS line. So you need an iPhone. With that what you get from there is up to you. I have found that the iPhone and the Apple Watch are 2 halves of one device.

iPad Mini is like the iPod Touch. While it is a pretty much fun device, it will probably be discontinued in future.

If you want something EXTRA LARGE AND BOLD there is always iPhone Pro Max out there or the Plus regular model. At least, iPhone got a full-featured and non-pixelated Instagram app🤣🤣🤣

I have the 13in iPad Pro, the iOS 16 Pro Max, and the iPad mini 7. All have very distinct uses for me and I use them all equally.

My phone is obviously my phone and I carry it everywhere.

The iPad mini is perfect for travel, reading on the couch, art on the go, media consumption on the go, etc.

The iPad Pro is for doing work on, cooking (since I can easily have recipes + YouTube open, doing big art stuff, and using essentially as a laptop when I don't want to be tied to a laptop.

I'd say if you want it, get it.
