I should have mine on Monday, so I’ll report back. I see that notebookcheck.net’s review noted the poor pixel response times that have been common on the MBPs since the mini-led was introduced.

Wow this is huge. 72ms on new models vs 40ms on M1 pro models or 32ms on Air laptops.

They cut corners in some new exotic unexpected ways.

Ghosting on my m4 max actually looks much less worse than it did on my M1 Max. Just did the testUFO website on Firefox and 120fps looks sharp af.

I went to an Apple store today to decide what to get, and none of them displayed ghosting artifacts.

I moved the about box rapidly around the screen, and it was fine. Same for mouse over various backgrounds.

Send it back.

As for reviews saying the screen lags - if it does, I can't tell, so for me it is a non-issue.

Mac Mini with 5K studio display (the 27" I think?) seemed slower than any MBP, but this may be the difference between 60 Hz and 120 Hz. Lag did NOT seem worse. In the few minutes I had, I didn't get to see if refresh could be set higher, or whether it was in low power mode.

The nano display had "different" contrast characteristics, and left everything looking slightly textured. Gloss screen looked best and had better brightness and contrast.

The difference was not insignificant; the promotion box showing dots for body color were very different.

On the gloss display, the dot for white looked slightly darker than the background, whereas on the nano display the white dot was significantly brighter and appeared almost washed-out.

Overall, the gloss screen definitely appeared to have the more accurate presentation, deeper blacks, and better contrast. Colors were noticeably more saturated.

Posts like this make me nervous when I buy new tech products. I’ve had 3 defective smartphones and a tablet over the last 5 years. Hopefully, your issues can be addressed with a software update.

Partially it will not.

People happily buy subaru crosstrek, praise honda civic and drive subaru outbacks. The reality is those cars are slow turds. But people say it is good enough.

These new MBP M4s have slow screen at 72ms. For comparison Air has 32ms screens and almost any gaming windows laptop would be under 3ms.

The reality is that Windows laptops looks and feel so much better when it comes to moving mouse and screen reaction.

My next laptop is definitely going to be a gaming windows one. I will wait until the wheels fall off from my Air and MBP14.

I already found my dzen in Apple: this is going to be a 16/512 or 1TB Macbook Air going forward around $1000 and i will not give any more money to apple, even though i looked a lot at spending over 2K for MBPs.

Just to let everyone know that the OP said a few posts back he fixed the issue, which is good news:

“Good morning! Great news... Upgrading to the latest Sequoia dev beta and/or restarting the machine fixed it. I no longer see any kind of ghosting, and on a side-by-side comparison with the M1, it looks very similar.
Didn't seem like the kind of issue that was software related, but glad I don't have to return it! :)
If it shows up again I'll update the thread.”

Was worried about this. Maybe I'll wait for Mac Studio after all.
There is nothing to worry about. It was just an aberration, a one-off. I've since bought one more, a 14-inch this time, for my field work, and it's perfectly fine. By the way, Microcenter is selling all Macs, even the new ones, 10% off right now. I just got the 24/1TB/12 14 inch for $2,199.00.
