For the Pro Model, actually, it has been rumored that the iPhone 14 will probably have always on display. Not sure for the regular 14 non-pro.Hello!
I've been considering buying an iPhone. Because the 14 is supposed to come out soon I've been looking at rumors and ended up here.
The rumors say the 14 will not get USB-C, will not get a 120 Hz display, will not get an always on display and will not get a major design overhaul. But the 14 might be more expensive than the 13 was on launch. So it will cost at least €900 and might even be €1000. Whereas the 13 is now for sale for €700. Is there a reason one should wait for a 14 instead of buying a 13? A slightly better camera has to make up for a €200-300 price difference?

This comes up every time they introduce a new iPhone. Wait for the 14 or save some money and get the 13 now. Much is up to the buyer and how much expendable money one has. The 14 is not going to be a huge upgrade so . . . .
Perhaps, but when I look at your signature I have the feeling you know way more about the differences between models and the way Apple designs models than I do. That's why a forum is so nice: here we can all talk it through. A newb like me could easily have missed something.Yup every year same questions and same answers. Like people should know this already.
It just depends on what you need, or want in my case.I’m my opinion, I don’t see why it makes sense to buy a new iPhone that’s already 1 generation old. You’re already spending a lot of money, just to be 1 generation behind from day 1. I would always go with the latest over the previous gen pro. This year it might make sense to pony up a bit more for the 14 pro over the standard 14. But no way would I spend the thick end of a grand just to have a 13 of any variant now it’s a year old

Thanks for your time!
Thanks. I can do that. They won't run out of 13s to push me to a 14 anway?
A little more battery life would be certainly be nice.
Thanks. For me a phone is more of a tool than a status symbol so I definitely don't need the latest and greatest.
Nice try, Apple![]()
Just kidding. But that is exactly why Apple has handicapped the 'regular' models and added a Pro line; that is consumerism at its finest and not a sentiment brought on by rationality. Because the 13 isn't what you could expect of a €700 phone you look at the €1050 13 Pro and because you're now spending more anyway but still don't get the complete package you're looking at the €1250 14 Pro.
I do understand your point and I can't say I'm not vulnerable to it but to me it seems like that logic could better be used to steer to a second hand 13 / 13 Pro instead of a new 14 Pro.
Yes, I've read that too. I think the rumor is that the 14 will get a 60 Hz display and the 14 Pro an adaptive display that does 1 Hz for always on and 120 Hz for browsing. I've had always on displays for 10 years already so it would absolutely suck to have to go without, but I personally can't really justify the €200 difference to a 13 Pro for just that one simple function. If my current phone wasn't failing me already I'd definitely have waited another 1-2 years until the iPhones are up to standards but unfortunately I doubt my phone will last until the end of the year.
Thanks. I can imagine that's true. But since I would be new to iPhone (well, I did have the 3G so technically I'm returning to the Apple camp) I was thinking/hoping I was missing something. But you're probably right: I have to look at it as expendable money in order to hold the newest phone instead of expecting to get something that would make up the price difference.
Thanks all!
I'll try to hold out until the launch to see whether the rumors are wrong and the regular 14 also gets a 120 Hz and always on display and if it doesn't I'll go for the 13 or 13 Pro.
iPhone upgrades year-to-year are incremental, with rare exceptions. The difference between a 13 and 14 may seem stark at the 14s launch, but over the 5 year (or so) respective lifespans these differences shrink. Therefore I (in your situation) would get the 13 - but as @Brad7 suggested in post 2, the price of a 13 will drop at the 14s launch. However, be assured there is no bad decision here - either the 13 or the 14 would be a great decision! Welcome to the iWorld lol!Hello!

If I have the money for a 14, why shouldn't I buy a 13 Pro instead? It's got a 120 Hz display so in daily use it'll be a nicer device to use, right? And the cameras of the 13 Pro are probably better than the cameras of the 14, right? I'm assuming the latter because if the cameras of the 14 are better than the cameras of the 13 Pro it would hurt the second hand value of iPhones and thereby eat up a chunk of the market for future models.
Am I missing something? Can I expect a "next big thing" or is the 14 only intended for the most hardcore of fans?
Hope you have a great weekend!

The 3G. I still have mine in a box in the closet. A friend talked me into getting it instead of a BlackBerry. I think it was $600! Timflation I guess.Thanks. I can do that. They won't run out of 13s to push me to a 14 anway?

It's all down to price. The previous gen Pro generally has some superior specs than the current standard model. For example the 12 Pro's 6GB of RAM vs the 13's 4GB. Or the 13 Pro's 120hz display over the 14's rumored 60hz. In these cases the older phone will give you a better experience. Newer doesn't necessarily mean better.I’m my opinion, I don’t see why it makes sense to buy a new iPhone that’s already 1 generation old. $549 for the 3G 16GB model without carrier contract discounts. That is $760 adjusted for inflation. The 3G. I still have mine in a box in the closet. A friend talked me into getting it instead of a BlackBerry. I think it was $600! Timflation I guess.
I understand, especially when it's a hobby. I have weirder hobbies hahaI like the latest and greatest and I could care less what people think of my phone. I don’t even tell people hey look I got the new iPhone. If I can afford to fund my hobby and love for technology then I do it. That’s why I love AUP. I change my devices yearly. I also lease a new car/suv every 3 years. Believe me there’s different ways I can show the world my current status. BTW I use my phone for personal and run my business. Emails. Calls. Texts. I mostly do a lot of work stuff on it. Big screens. Big good battery life. Fast. Important to me.
Thanks for the tip! I don't see refurbished iPhones on offer where I live but maybe they'll show up after the 14 is available. It could be a nice way to get an iPad, though.@Kay_Ess,
If you decide to opt for an iPhone 13, see what Apple is offering refurbished. I want to stress that I mean what Apple itself is offering, not a third party. You'll save some additional money, and Apple sells refurbished phones that are in top condition with a full warranty.

I still have mine too! I can already imagine myself in the future, showing it to some kids. It really changed the world. The 3G. I still have mine in a box in the closet. A friend talked me into getting it instead of a BlackBerry. I think it was $600! Timflation I guess.
