I want a phone with 40 hours plus.. battery life and those hours estimated by Apple so lets say 2 days without sacrificing . Of course Apple intentionally want people to charge every night their phones . Is funny people hold a 6.5 inch glass on their hand and that fine but complain about thickness

Apple Car play hopefully is my Next EV.
I could have put more thought into 1st EV from Renault with built in system.
from EV forums it's quite a job to fit Apple Car Play.

thanks for your Magsafe comment, portless I haven't heard of any examples as yet.

Renault Zoe 2021 (with a 52 Kw battery) has a very good wired Car Play implementation, IMO.

As for MagSafe, I do not see much benefit, as it just overheats our phones and leaks charging power, compared to plugging in.

I have some bad news about USB-C... Somehow I thought it would be mandatory starting january 2023, but it's actually fall 2024. So if the iPhone 14 doesn't get USB-C, there is a good chance that the iPhone 15 doesn't get USB-C either. And then I can already see Apple expediting the launch of the 16 by a week to avoid giving that a USB-C connector too... :p

By the way, I personally have been charging wirelessly about 99% of the time for over 10 years. But the problem is that most people don't so they don't own a wireless charger. And most people do have USB chargers. So if I'd buy an iPhone and it has a Lightning port, I'd have to carry a charger and/or cable with me every time I'm not 100% sure I'll be back soon. Or I'd have to buy people chargers or cables and ask them to keep them in a handy spot just for me. Sure it's a stupid first world problem and I should be happy this is something I worry about and sure I bring with me a bag anyway if I expect to sleep over somewhere, but it's just a super lame feature of the iPhone that you can't charge your phone in most houses around the world.

So let's just hope the 14 gets USB-C...

Sure. Are you ready to carry an iPhone that weighs half a kilo?

40 hours is less than 2 days and the competition does 2-3 days without being heavier than iPhones. iPhones are relatively heavy because of the steel, no? So if Apple finds a material that feels luxurious but is less heavy than steel then a 2-3 day capacity without an increase in weight should be possible.

My old company Sony that I don't use for browsing and only for messaging and calling people easily lasts a week on a single charge and that feels like it weighs half than an iPhone Pro.

But I think we all know the reason a modern battery life on iPhones isn't likely in the near future :p

Lol 99% battery after a year using MagSafe charger

There is so much lag in wireless CarPlay, though. It is a really frustrating experience.
I bought the CarPlay2 Wireless adapter to use in my Lexus NX300 (that only had wired CarPlay) and I really don't see any lag - unless you are talking about the extra seconds it takes for the iPhone to connect to the car. When the CarPlay2 first came out it took a noticeable amount of time to connect - then they released a firmware update to improve the connection time and it screwed up audio to the Music App after a telephone call. Now both are working as expected, but once it is connected the "experience" is basically the same as if I use the USB cord to connect to the car's CarPlay.
(Only thing I don't love about using CarPlay wirelessly is if I am listening to music and using the Map App it drains the battery. Plugging it into the USB has less of a battery drain.)

Now that's just moving the goalposts. Have you tried disabling data and wifi on a 13PM to see how long it lasts for calls and messaging?

because its like 2 weeks away, and youre making a decision on a device you will presumably keep at minimum a year unless you switch to another size of the same generation or pro to non pro, etc.

I don't see what MagSafe has to do with Lightning or USB-C. I'd rather use either of those cords than wireless charging which is slower and harder on the battery. I'd only use it if there were either no cables around or for a battery pack, which would counteract the problems I mentioned.

Well prepare to be shocked because it looks like the iPhone 14 is going to be the final Lightning iPhone. It's been about a decade so one more year isn't too bad.
I agree with this. I tried the MagSafe thing just to see my battery take a hit. I don’t like using it personally. Plus with certain cases it leaves marks, rings etc. call me old fashioned but I like being able to plug it in… and I’m pretty solid on waiting for the type c to come to Apple next year. My 12 pro max is still going strong. This actually has been my favorite iPhone I’ve owned to date.

My backup one, the 2016 SE, doesn't last long on battery anymore. Even though its battery health is 85%. So I'm considering handling this 2 ways. Buy the new 14 Pro, make that my primary phone, and use my 12 Pro as my backup phone.

Or just buying the 13 mini when it drops in price.

I'll just wait and see, I guess.

I just wanted to add that overall with my iPhone X i guess i truly was never happy with it battery life from day one.
I never could make it through the day without it saying low battery warning etc.

My 8+ i had before that id use it way more and id easily get 2 days worth out of it.

I love the features of the X dont get me wrong but i was never happy with the battery life with it. Its degraded down now to about 75% battery health i think (last time i checked) but its still lasting to the end of the day but i cant have the brightness cranked up anymore, but what it does now is the battery will drop below 20% and give the warning and then all of a sudden it goes back up over 20%, then under again.....lol.

This is the MAIN reason i was looking to upgrade finally to a new one and go with the Pro Max for increased battery life. If i could get back to using the phone for a day and not have to worry about making sure to plug it in for a charge each night ill be happy.

Super eager now for the event in 10 days to see what unfolds :)

Hello!

I've been considering buying an iPhone. Because the 14 is supposed to come out soon I've been looking at rumors and ended up here.

The rumors say the 14 will not get USB-C, will not get a 120 Hz display, will not get an always on display and will not get a major design overhaul. But the 14 might be more expensive than the 13 was on launch. So it will cost at least €900 and might even be €1000. Whereas the 13 is now for sale for €700. Is there a reason one should wait for a 14 instead of buying a 13? A slightly better camera has to make up for a €200-300 price difference?

If I have the money for a 14, why shouldn't I buy a 13 Pro instead? It's got a 120 Hz display so in daily use it'll be a nicer device to use, right? And the cameras of the 13 Pro are probably better than the cameras of the 14, right? I'm assuming the latter because if the cameras of the 14 are better than the cameras of the 13 Pro it would hurt the second hand value of iPhones and thereby eat up a chunk of the market for future models.

Am I missing something? Can I expect a "next big thing" or is the 14 only intended for the most hardcore of fans?

Hope you have a great weekend!
K.
If you have a need for a phone today, then you get a phone today.
Pretty much the same with any 'thing' you need immediately.

Or if it is a want... then whoever wants it, decides to buy the current model or wait on the next model. Every time a new thing comes out with a new model, repeat same discussion and decision making every year.

I would say the 14 is first for people whom it is their 1st phone. So not hardcore fans.
Then for people who are a few models back and just want something newer, maybe larger, more storage, not sure of peoples wants and needs.
And lastly for those who are going to buy the new model every year or are on yearly upgrade plans, essential a lease, like leasing a car.
