Tether iPad to iPhone?

Would it be possible, do you reckon, to tether a wi-fi iPad to an iPhone in order to make use of its 3G connection?

It's not something I'm backing on, but it would be nice to be able to do if required.

AT&T announced today it will start officially tethering with iPhone 4.0. The catch, for those not grandfathered, is they will no longer offer the unlimited data plan. So, bad for those wanting internet plan from the iPhone via tethering, for those that have Internet at home and then tether on the road, may not be a bad deal.

No - the tethering is specifically for the iPhone, it lets you connect in to the iPhone with any wi-fi enabled device (PC, laptop, iPad) and use the iPhone's 3G connection.

A. No, iPhone customers cannot tether their iPhone to their iPad, as this is not a feature iPad supports.
 
If you have a bluetooth enabled mac you can can tether the mac to the iphone, then share out on wifi to the ipad. If you really wanted 3G on the iPad you should have bought that model... :)

Bummer.

I haven't bought my iPad yet. I don't need the 3G one (certainly not for £100 more), I just thought it might be a "nice to have".

I'm sure they'll change the tethering to the iPad when sales kick in - that'll be to encourage sales of the 3G model.
 
I think what a lot of people aren't realizing is that this tethering that AT&T is talking about wont help iPhone->iPad people at all.

The iPhone allows bluetooth or USB tethering. Both are NOT supported by the iPad.

I personally use MyWi on a JB'd iPhone.

Im just kinda worried tho.. With all this new data stuff from AT&T it wouldnt surprise me if they start watching people like hawks. Its not like I MyWi 24/7 tho either.. I dont even go over 1GB per month. Im usually always around wifi..

Only thing about MyWi is if we go that route, It looks like we will be passing on 4.0 and/or the new iPhone.. for a little while anyways..

I love when people say that...
I tethered for an hour before work this morning and it used less than 1/4 of the battery.
No big deal, now I'm at work so I can charge it if I want.
People talk about it killing the battery like you will never be around a charger.
This isnt LOST, most people are around a wall or car charger at some point through the day. Plus i dont see myself sitting somewhere wanting to tether all day anyways..
 
The tethering option certainly is tempting after ATT pulls a stunt like this.

But in the end, I want to minimize exposure to adolescent hackers.
Just an instinctuall caution :D

In other words, technically, i can't be sure of what kind of pandora's box i've opened up.

And also, there's alway the nagging thought in the back of my mind that i'm cheating and could get caught, as unrealistic as this is. :D but it's tempting.

Can any of you guarantee that i'm not somehow compromising security by jailbreaking? I'd like to hear that.

I'm going to try it out tonight. Had my ipad in work today and Internet access is a sore point!
 
So I signed up, everything appears to be working, my iPad is connected to my phone but there's nothing happening.
On my phone it says mywi tethering down 66kb up 34kb
I'm on wifi channel 9 with no security. What I'm I doing wrong??

I have mine on Ch6 with security on.. When I have problems I click the "auto fix tethering".... usually does the trick.
I also noticed the Rock trial version seemed buggier than when I paid for the No Rock version. (although they did have a recent update, that could be the fix to I suppose)

Ok thanks I'll keep trying. So what's the no rock version? Is that in cydia??
