Excellent. Working now. Down 926kb Up 280kb
Is this average???

Excuse my stupidity on this. I just realised this was how much I had downloaded!!!
It was hitting 40mb after a while

I wouldn't rely on it for every day tethering. It HAMMERS the iPhone battery.

Its fine for a backup / emergency, but not for every day use.

This cracks me up, too. Um, no, it doesn't? It really doesn't. I think 3G iPad owners just want to make themselves feel better about paying more. ;)

Screw At&T. When I picked up my WiFi iPad, I also bought a MiFi from Verizon, and I love it. I can connect ANY 5 devices to it at one time, it's very small and easy to carry, it connects to my iMaxPower 5000 mAh battery backup so it can run all day, and best of all, it doesn't use AT&T.

Got to say I'm well impressed with the mywi. Only thing is if I pay for it after my 10 day trial and then get the new iphone I'll have to wait till 4.0 gets jail broken.

MiWi looks decent, but $60 a month is really steep, considering I'm already paying for an iPhone data plan and home internet access as well. 250 MB is more reasonable ($40) but wouldn't last anywhere close to a month with an iPad.

I got my ipad in the mail today after 4 long days of waiting. I'm going to jailbreak for tethering. Does anyone know if the iPhone has to be jailbroken?

Jailbreak the iPhone for tethering. Not necessary to jailbreak the iPad.

I love when people say that...
I tethered for an hour before work this morning and it used less than 1/4 of the battery.
No big deal, now I'm at work so I can charge it if I want.
People talk about it killing the battery like you will never be around a charger.
This isnt LOST, most people are around a wall or car charger at some point through the day. Plus i dont see myself sitting somewhere wanting to tether all day anyways..

Well of course its not an issue if you're near a charger...but maybe I use tethering differently to you, as generally when I’m near a plug socket / charger I’m also near an internet connection so don't need to tether.

I use tethering when I’m out and about with my Laptop / iPad where there is NO physical internet connection - and no charger.

...and like I said, it HAMMERS the battery. (less than) 1/4 battery for 1 hour of internet definitely comes under hammering battery in my opinion.

What's the difference between using rock and no rock?

Oh! Do you have to pay for this feature? I thought once you had jailbroken it would be free? $60pm?!!

Am I misunderstanding miwy and miwi?

HiRez either has a very, poorly worded sentence or doesn't know what he is talking about.

MyWi costs $9.99 to purchase. There's no 'feature to buy' nor any monthly charges for it.

I think the $60/month number is what ATT charges for tethering on an iPhone.

For less than 1 month tethering charges, you can buy an iMax 500 mah external battery for your iPhone and buy MyWi.

This is painful to read. Do a little research folks, just blindly posting for help is like asking your Mom to make you lunch, grow up.

All of these questions have been asked and answered a million times on this and other internet sites.

I am NOT a troll, really.

Thanks for clarifying Mike!

Hay Newbie if I've told you once I have told you a billion times, don't exaggerate, it's painful and as someone who pays towards this site it's my privilege not to have to search.

Rock is basically another app store like cydia..
I've seen numerous people say that the no rock version is better/more stable.
I personally didnt notice a difference but I just didn't want rock on my phone.
To get the no rock version I believe you have to buy MyWi. The way I did it:
.Get trial of MyWi (comes with rock)
.purchase MyWi
.remove rock (also will remove MyWi)
.go to cydia, download MyWi no rock
.done

You are confused.
Two different things.
MyWi = $10 one time
MiFi = $60 per month for duration of contract

AH, sorry about that, I didn't realize MyWi and MiFi were different, but come on...it is kind of confusing.
