Funny how wireless carries get all hurt over data usage that you are paying for. I used to live in an area that had crap internet servers and I downloaded an update on my computer that was like 300mb and they sent us an email that said to be careful or our internet would be shut off. Mind you we had a 17gb limit and never went over it. So it's just a crying shame that in this day and age when everything is internet based that home and wireless carries can't seem to understand why people would want unlimited data.

Just have to be careful. I have been jailbroken and tethering for years and today got my first email. I can tell you for the past several years have been using around 3-5 Gigs every month. One month had 19 gigs:D I was mostly tethering my Ipad so recently bit the bullet and activated the data plan in order to get the LTE speeds. I figured its only a $1 a day. Still will have the jailbroken phone around and will not use for awhile to tether to go back under the radar.

That option isn't present if you are on a tiered or unlimited data plan, only on a mobile share plan or tiered plan if you purchased the tethering data package.

So if it shows up ready for use, then you're safe to use it! (Unless you knowingly have an unlimited data plan, which I doubt you do)

I'm on a GoPhone sim card....

Are you positive I'm safe to use it? I'm sort of scared something will happen lol, but if your positive, I'll take your word for it :apple:

If you are using a gophone SIM card for unlimited data for $50 on your iPhone then I would tread lightly and not tether. You're already using a plan you shouldn't be, for a great deal, thus I wouldn't push my luck if I were you.

There is no such thing as $50 unlimited data on the gophone, only unlimited text and talk. The data must be added separately. Unlimited data only applies to non-smart phones. That's where they trick people. I downgraded to the $25 plan after knowing about that part of the terms.

Two of my friends actually have this setup. So you're wrong. They're using a non smartphone data package that's unlimited. In theory it shouldn't work, but if implemented properly it does work, of course less MMS, iMessage and VVM.

Both friends lied to you, they're wrong. I've had the $50 "unlimited" talk, text and "data" plan, but it forced me to add the data packages separately when I tried to browse the Internet. They are paying extra for that data.

I swear it doesn't. I was in disbelief too. The key is to not use a contracted phone. If att has the IMEI registered then they'll know to disallow such a setup.

My iPhone was off contract.

Look, I know you're supposed to set up a new gophone sim and when asked if using a smartphone to just say no. But after, lets say, 500+ mb's a month, AT&T will catch on and identify your phone as a non-smartphone. It's happened to me already, so if your friends are flying under the radar, I can see why they claim its unlimited. But it's not really unlimited.

I've been tethering for over 3 months with the $4.99 app from cydia (tetherme). I normally average at 15-20 GB/Month. So far so trouble "yet". The thing that i read when i downloaded tetherme was that it makes the network think that is coming from the mobile device. I'm with AT&T and we all know how money hungry they are. So im just assuming if they knew,by now i would have received the notice

Unlimited (speed and volume) and tethering. Hello. Think it through. If that was the case, most people would no longer need a home ISP. Just use the phone.

And, at that point we will all be throttled. Not intentionally, but because the network will be overloaded.

Meanwhile, has ANYONE ever been promised a certain bandwidth with their unlimited?
