Melman, it's great to hear from the other side of the spectrum. I'm glad you've been able to meet your needs and not have to pay for another 3G plan.

Unfortunately, I don't have an iPhone, so the tethering option is a no go.

I wonder, however, if I could somehow convert the 3G signal from my iPad to wifi and tether it to my netbook, if only for skyping purposes...

If only the iPad had a camera. :apple:

I mean I can't definitively say, but there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to jailbreak your iPad and install MyWi for sharing your 3G connection over WiFi.

64 gig. If the 100 difference is a matter of concern to someone buoying a luxury item, they probably shouldn't be spending the money in the first place. Debating 100 after committing to 600 seems like a no btainer for double the storage is you actually can afford the 600 or 700 to begin with.

I think alot of frugal millionaires would disagree with you

For what it's worth, I will be getting the 32GB 3G. I could go for 64, but I know it will sit empty much like my 32GB iPhone. I currently have the 16GB WiFi model (14GB usable space), which I didn't think would be enough, but it currently holds my entire music collection, almost 3000 photos imported from iPhoto, one SD movie and one HD movie with 900MB to spare.

Honestly, I am considering downgrading to the 16GB 3G model since I am not the type of person who is going to watch movies on this. Unless I am going on a trip, when I could load it up or use Air Video and stream them from home. Otherwise, those movies are just wasted space used only to demonstrate video on the iPad. I think it's better to use that extra $100 to buy apps (believe me you will spend it. I've already spent close to $200 in apps and books).

Wow, I think I just talked myself into the 16GB 3G.

BTW, this is at most a $829 dollar question, not $60,000 as the thread title says.

Just for nice to know info... Why won't you use Skype on the iPad? Works pretty good for me.
I use Skype to talk to my distant gf. It's not the same if I can see her, but she can't see me.

I imagine Apple would include some kind of camera accessory in the future. Why else would there be a mic?

Maybe this is too late but IMHO, the 32GB 3G is the best price/performance to go if you want to purchase the 3G version. I am personally buying the 16GB because I know for sure that I am getting the version 2 next year....

Each people have different usage, but I do not put a lot of movies in here, in fact, I will put 0 movie in iPad and just stream them via Air Video. This is because I have all my movies on MKV format and waiting for 200+ of 4-6gb EACH to convert one by one is very time consuming.

As far as music, I have this special playlists that are around 5GB in size which contains all my absolute favorite music. No, I do not bring all my music collection on the go. These playlists are the same ones I put into my phone...

Photos, I put all my pictures on Picasa and Mobileme... and I have "Web Albums for iPad" apps for accessing pictures on Picasa via iPad.

Unless you really have a lot of money to spend, or planning to put almost every single media you have inside your iPad (which is.... inefficient and begging the question WHY?), buying 64GB will be a waste of $$.

Again, just my personal take based on my personal use ;)

I think you're that voice in my head.

You've brought up some great points and I will definitely take them into consideration before buying.

I had the iPad WiFi before I sold it off on eBay (yay for profit) and I had around ~10GB empty space after putting all my Apps and Music. Granted I have a couple gigs more in songs and I downloaded around 4 more apps up to this point, but I am damn sure it won't fill up anytime soon for me ;)

PS: this short article from Gizmodo is rather funny and may help you to get the "right" version :p http://gizmodo.com/5491558/ipad-buyers-guide-super-simplified-edition-some-jest-implied

I'm getting 16G version myself as well.
Not gonna store any music on the iPad.
That's what iPhone is there for. ;)

I got a 32gb Wifi model, but I think now I should have bought a 16gb one. I do not think I am going to need more than 6GB of storage. Of course you can try to put all your movie and music collection on your iPad, but I do not see why would I want to do it and then I would need a 500GB model...

I went with ordering the 32GB 3G model. 16 GB may be enough if you really manage what apps you put on there and don't care so much about media. To me, 64 seemed like a ton. But if you plan on toting around your big iTunes library / media files, it may be worth it for you.

I stream all my media (Rhapsody, Netflix, etc) so the hard drive space will mostly be used for apps.

So that middle amount seems fine for me.

:apple:

I was going to do the 32GB 3g until I realized that I was only opting out of the 64gb because I was being cheap. I had a 64GB wifi for a while and had about 3 rented movies, some movies from my media library, and a few large pdf's and other files. I was at around 36gb used, and that was barely half of the content that I wanted on it.

If a person can afford it, I recommend just getting the 64.

I went with 64, ran out of room too quickly on my 32GB iPhone. And games and apps are larger on the iPad so they'll take up even more room. Plus I'll be watching way more movies and TV shows on my iPad, so I'll need the room for those.

I thought 16GB would be enough for me until I filled 10GB in one day. So I sold it and got the 64GB and couldn't be happier.

It's all about what your media library looks like without the iPad and more importantly what you intend to do with the iPad and what your media library will look like going forward.

My music library is encoded to a very large size per song and use other means to listen to it; I'll keep some classics on the iPad just in case of an emergency. The main purpose for purchasing the iPad for me was for viewing movies, reading books, mags and news content on my commute to and from work. I also think the size of the iPad apps will become larger over time and take up more space than what you currently see. So... I opted for the 64GB (WiFi) to give me the most flexibility of managing my current media library; making room to add in something new, while not having to remove something for free space each time I want to add something on the fly. Management of your current media library is critical because it's very easy to just dump what you have as opposed to dump what you really want or need.

OK..so, now that I've answered you question I'll IM you the address of where to send the $60k :-D
