The Android experience, so far......

Having almost a year with a iPhone and getting just days ago an Android headset, I feel more or less capable of doing a comparision between not uber-geek features: App Stores and battery life.....More in the side of venting my toughts.....

The App Store seems to me more polished and neat than the Google Play Store. Seems to have more significant apps, too....Battery life, dont get me started....My Android phone needs charging every day to full to operate well. My iPhone can go days without charging.

So my early veredict, not being a power user or ultra-tech savy is that Android is a "non expensive" alternative to iOS. Not going much into the Android hardware,because seems to me there are outstanding pieces of tech, some on par with Apple offers or even with better specs.....

Feel free to put your toughts in word....Only dont shot the messenger....

I had a similar experience over a range of Android phones and tablets over the last year.

Battery life on many is awful. I don't know why, but it was something I saw with each device I have/had.

The Google Play store is mediocre. I like the laxer policies (Allowing emulators and a variety of other things that Apple doesn't), but overall it could use some polishing in my opinion.

My biggest issues were media players (the stock ones are garbage, as are most 3rd party players - especially for video), and the battery life. Apps generally seem a bit higher quality on iOS as well, which I prefer.

That being said? If you're not as big into iOS it's a solid alternative that I don't see tons of issue with.

I'd imagine watching some paint dry might be a better way to spend my time.

Paired with your useless posts regarding that information we're approaching that "paint drying" thing I mentioned, as far as time-wasting goes.

I'm not quite understanding why I'm expected to be bothered enough to do some rigorous test in order to prove something to someone on the internet. I plug my iPhone in every other day, and commented on such. Believe it or not - I don't really care, and certainly don't care enough to dedicate my time to prove it to you.

I wish iPhone had inbuilt active noise cancelling (for headphones), answering machine, refund if you change your mind about an app in first 15 minutes, ability to set default apps, and no hotspot carrier restriction. So far, none of those has been fulfilled in iOS 8. /disappointed

1) Xperia z2 is TWO YEARS OLDER than iphone 5. Between iphone 5 and iphone 5S sony has released: Z, Z1, Z2, Z1 compact, Z ultra. It can only take them that long to pull their ***** together. And let's face it, the improvements on battery life of Android phones are not even thanks to Sony or HTC or Samsung or even google, it's all innovation on Qualcomm's part.

2) Re: inbuilt active noise cancelling (for headphones). Never used Sony's bundled headphone so can't comment. But a) the quality headphones are not included in the box in all markets. Even in certain developed markets they're excluded. Nice for being discriminated against.

Used quite a few Androids and think they're not quite there yet. However, the 15-minutes app refund has worked fine for me on the Play Store.

I was simply stating my user experience and what I was hoping Apple could add to the new iPhone, not here to argue which is better. I didn't even mention anything about innovation. For some reasons on my iPhone, it is just not working. I blame Apple for restricting me from using a feature on MY phone.

On both platforms, the developer has absolutely no control over refunds. They can't even go to Apple or Google on a customer's behalf to get a refund issued. I guarantee most aren't so attached to a dollar that they won't just refund it to avoid the headache of an annoying buyer who wants a refund. You literally can't even buy a coffee for a buck, so believe me - if devs could issue refunds, I'm sure they would do so as needed to avoid annoyances.

The problem with all phones is that they make stupid decisions at one point or another.

All you need to get right for a mass market phone is:

- 4.7-5" screen
- slim bezels
- stay close to stock
- don't add bloatware
- have an excellent camera
- be able to fully back up easily
- be waterproof
- market it well
- don't make it stupidly expensive
- be able to transfer your old phone's info across easily

Now not one single phone (including the iPhone) has ticked all those boxes. There is always a compromise.

The only phones that have come close are the iPhone (size is problem), the Galaxy S5 (bloatware is problem), the Xperia Z2 (too damn big) and the Moto X (average camera).

Add decent battery life to the equation, too. That's my primary complaint against the Nexus 5. Size isn't a big issue for me (pun not intended) so I went for the iPhone. That said, having played with the Moto G, I'd love to get an iPhone with around the same screen size and similar dimensions.
