iPhone 5 was more than a mere speed bump and a slight size increase. They also changed the aspect ratio to the one that the industry actually accepts as being the movie-watching one.

But, let's all take a look at two phones made by a different company. We have the Galaxy S 2 and Galaxy S 3.

-Increased screen size and resolution (.5 inches)
-Additional display support
-Better camera
-Better battery
-NFC
-Bluetooth 4.0
-Speed bump
-Lighter
-More RAM

Yep, those updates are all revolutionary. Everyone knows that the S series is going out there and innovating. As a phone, it didn't do much. Why? Because there really isn't much they can do on the hardware front anymore.

Like I said, if Apple dies and no one else innovates, Samsung isn't going to do anything to change their phone. Because they'll be thrilled of selling you that same old thing.

I'm not saying that only Apple is failing, I think they're still ahead of the competition. If it's just going to be speed bumps until 2025, then I think it's time to switch.

It's not.

There will be a higher PPI at some point, phenomenal cameras, and so forth. But the biggest reason why people buy iDevices is the software/hardware connection. It's what other companies need to learn.

Really? Lack of updates is not necessarily a bad thing at all. Unless it's obsolete by now. That isn't true. What can really be added to the iPhone/iPad/iTouch other than a faster processor, a better camera, screen and slightly altered case? Not much.

Well, after some days waiting I finally got my iPhone 5. And coming from a 4 it is a great difference in speed, to do anything as well as with data transfer. The camera is also a great difference. Maybe those who enjoyed their 4S might not notice the big difference but for me it is.
The battery also is significantly better than the 4.
The Apple experience is something else, Best Buy was clueless during all these days if they will fulfill my pre-order. Once the iPhone arrived to the store they sent me an email, and then they made me wait fr more than 2houra to give me the freaking phone. They asked me at the end if there was something else they can help me with, I darted to provide feedback and immediately they started to justify and recite their BS internal procedures, not even listening to my 'feedback'. Anyways, my point is that Apple do reign as retailer of consumer electronics, they are decades ahead of their competitors, even the products might have some manufacturing or design flaws they know have to leverage them and make you happy and spend more money on new Apple toys and accessories.
But nothing is perfect. They don't currently offer any bumpers or cases for theiPhone 5.
Maps sucks as everyone knows.
So far iTunes Match now works fine with the 5 and iOS 6.
The only thing that is not working is the Notes sync through iCloud, any ideas?

Keyboard still sucks, too many typos.

Apple will probably do better as a company under Tim Cook, but I really feel that Apple has lost the since of magic and excitement that came with Steve at the helm. I could know what Steve was going to introduce to the letter weeks before the event, but I still viewed them as soon as they were up on the website. Now I haven't even view the iPhone 5 keynote.

I found another Mac OS X complaint:

Wow, you found a complaint about something. On the internet. About the previous version of an OS. Amazing.

Perhaps you should make better use of your life instead of finding worthless **** to bitch about on a forum.

Your entire OP is one giant bitch because you know **** all about how this stuff is created and apparently think you can pull "innovation" out of thin air on a constant basis with no thought about what low level work on software, hardware, R&D and manufacturing has to go in to make it.

I saw the 5 keynote. Tim Cook kinda ruined it with his monotone boring voice.
Thank the lord the iPod nano and touch were announced, they looked so much more friendly and exciting then the iPhone part and some Passionate work actually went into it.

As for Apple losing passion I simply agree zat is all.

Apple did more, but significantly decreased in innovation when Steve died. I'm not an iSheep to continue praising them for disappointments, I just can't.

You mean to tell me that everything that has come out of Apple post-Jobs is because of Tim Cook? That none of the products we are seeing now are on a trajectory initially set by Jobs? Then you drastically underestimate the time it takes to develop, design, commercialize and distribute technology. We won't really see the impact of Steve's passing on Apple innovation for quite some time.

You keep embarrassing yourself with these posts. The products recently announced have been under development for over a year, before Jobs died. It has been written that these are his products. How about you wait a year or so and then pass judgement on their products that were developed under Cook?

Nope. Since Steve died, Tim has been doing some things that Steve would have never allowed... and that is one of the reasons why Apple could be failing.

What the hell do you mean no one innvoates?

For phones, innovation has been going on long before Apple got into the game.

Pretty much the first truly portable and usable Cell Phone, made by Motorola.

dkmb86g_482cphqxmdq_b.jpg

IBM's Simon, you could argue this was the first smart phone.

dkmb86g_464vq4vd4hp_b.jpg

These really were the first smartphones that sold in large numbers.

Thanks Nokia.

Hmmmm

dkmb86g_485gfpcvv9j_b.jpg

First Cellphone that was also an MP3 player

Yet another smartphone.

Clearly copying Apple.....wait....this was YEARS before the iPhone

dkmb86g_481dmtg3phf_b.jpg

Sanyo, first phone with a camera

dkmb86g_616gn8kkk86_b.jpg

Sure it didn't sell well, and they did clean up their act.

Nokia-N-Gage-QD-02.jpg

This was really the first Cellphone that showed mobile gaming and a phone were really possible with any decent level of quality.

dkmb86g_480fbz9f9hb_b.jpg

Of course we had Palm, what an awesome company before HP bought them out, you want to take about real Mobile UI innovation? Look at the history of palm.

dkmb86g_622gqdtrhfx_b.jpg

HTC and Microsoft were out innovating to.

dkmb86g_386kbnbv7c3_b.jpg

This came before the iPhone as well, sure it wasn't as good. But the concept was the same.

78608d1316678671-blackberry-blackberry-pic.jpg

Then of course the lines of Blackberries were super popular in business, and who knows they might come back. Say when you want, but I think RIM and the Blackberry really impacted the smartphone market more than anyone, it showed us that smartphones could be " fun ".

Pocket PC's as well/

I have ZERO hate for Apple as a company, because I don't love or hate ANY faceless corporation.

However, to think that the Celluar industry for example didn't innovate without Apple is an insane thing to say.

Mountain Lion killer feature: Gatekeeper.

edit:
Time machine working fine here like it always has
Safari 6 is awesome
New guestures are awesome
Full screen on a laptop is awesome

I've been happy with mountain lion overall.

Apple are currently pushing a lot of non-sexy behind the scenes stuff in the new versions of iOS and OS X.

The platform is maturing and being cleaned up.

There are a heap of new frameworks, etc - the funky new stuff is going to come with new apps. the operating system(s) are done. They're a solved problem.

Nope. Since Steve died, Tim has been doing some things that Steve would have never allowed... and that is one of the reasons why Apple could be failing.

Yep, you are right, Tim is not Steve. Never was, never will be. He will run the company different; even better in some regards, maybe not so much in others. Tim may not be as emotional as Steve (or as acerbic) but I think it is obvious that he is passionate, driven and carries the Apple DNA in him. Jobs set the tone, but he wasn't the only innovator. It took the team under him to truly drive innovation - that team seems to be doing just fine. Just because they aren't doing what YOU want them to doesn't mean that they aren't innovative.

And don't go making Jobs out to be this never-made-a-bad-decision mythical being - he had his share of flops as well. Not everything he touched turned to gold. Of course, when someone like him passes, people tend to only remember the good things and discount the bad, and attribute all the success to him and none to the team. That's a very shallow and ignorant perspective.

The biggest problem with Apple is the very fandom and aura that make them so successful - the tech press, the investment community, and Apple geeks/nerds/followers get so lathered up every time a new device, software update or product gets set (or even rumored) to be released. If said device, update or product does not meet (or actually EXCEED) these outlandish rumors, features, performance or timing that this collection of people have put forth, there is all this wailing, gnashing of teeth and bleeting by this collection about "the demise of Apple", the "failure to keep innovating", and the "inability to delight". Anyone who has followed Apple for a period of time has seen this play out time and time again; meanwhile, demand for these products continue to outstrip supply and the company continues to flourish - regardless of what this collection (and you it sounds like) believe or say.

But you don't have to believe that. You can continue to think that Apple is doomed, sell off all your Apple hardware, completely disassociate yourself from their platform and go on with your tech life, smugly knowing that you got out before things got bad and the rest of us "sheeple" are mindless idiots feeding into the past successes of a company destined to be a dinosaur before 2013.

Edited to add:

This is still oh so appropriate:

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Ive do the creating at Apple? I mean I'm sure Steve had a hand in the pot but in no way was he an industrial designer. I know all the hands at Apple work together to create but without I've where would Apple be? Someone has to have the vision to create the products and that person is Ive. Now if he jumps ship then I would worry.

Bummed

I'm also bummed with Apple lately. I bought my first Mac back in 1995. Even though I've had issues with the extension manager back then, I'd recommend Apple to anyone I know who is thinking about purchasing a computer. After the years gone by, I'd recommend iPods, iPhone, and Macs as usual.

Now, I wouldn't recommend anything even though I'd stick with Macs because there is no way I'd use a PC.

My 2011 iMac is constantly crashing and I've took my iMac to the Apple store at least 8 times and they pretty much gave up. They said don't come back because they replaced my 2010 iMac with the 2011 and I'm STILL having issues. When I turned my iMac on for the first time - nothing has been installed - it crashed! WTF?

I also bought my Macbook Pro few months ago and it usually crashes when I put it to sleep/waking up.

The only thing decent that I own made by Apple is my iPhone 4S. I upgraded from the 3G to the 4S so it was a worthy upgrade, to me.

What happened to Apple? Funny thing is, they're getting bigger and bigger but the quality is getting poorer. Who do I complain to about this? DISAPPOINTED.
