Has anyone else enabled ART on their Nexus 5 (or other phone running a build of KitKat)?

I did so after I rooted it yesterday because... well, it was there. So far, no issues, even on a rooted phone. Apparently some rooted apps and other apps like WhatsApp have issues as well. However, I've seen no problems, and you can revert.

ART promises great things. So far, the N5 is so wicked fast I can't tell if it's better, and it's so new, I can't tell if the battery is lasting longer.

But it's sorta cool to be able to alter the way the device runs apps at a fundamental level.

I left it on Dalvik, since ART is still new and there are bound to be some bugs here and there. Until I see some sort of benefit and its reported as completely stable by devs on XDA, I'm not gonna bother.

I know ART is the future and I will be using it, just not today. :)

funny how i was ragging on Google for getting rid of dalvik earlier in the year. lo and behold they answer!

kitkat is already on par with iOS 7 overall except in pinch to zoom. This will make it even better.

Very interesting.

Tbh my Nexus 5 running KitKat barely needs it, it's very smooth as it is.

But in a couple of months, it might be worth switching to ART. Great stuff.

I don't think many people really know what this is gonna do for high-end devices. I'm already hearing outlandish claims like it'll make this and iOS 7 the same in performance and touch response, or enable long battery life, both of which seem a little exaggerated. I'm waiting for Google to officially bake this into their next confection, and spill the details.

I almost flicked the switch on this last night, but read other reports that it breaks WhatsApp.

There is no real rush so I've set a reminder to revisit this in January, look forward to trying it then.

Oh yeah, so I DID end up trying it out for a couple of hours. It broke WhatsApp and (initially) the Camera but the Camera was fine after a short time. But...

Oh... My... Goodness...

It was incredibly impressive. Absolutely flies. THE SPEED OF IT!

Seriously, it's a very exciting moment for Android. This could be a genuine turning point.

It felt faster than iOS 7 for sure.

I am getting amazing battery life with ART enabled. I never end a day with less than 30% battery, 17 hours on battery, and 3+ hours screen time.

So once KitKat rolls out to other devices, can ART be enabled on those too?

Not saying you guys are exaggerating but could you be seeing the placebo effect?

Any way to gauge these noticeable gains?

I ran my nexus 5 for the first week using Dalvik and was still getting great battery life, but switched it over to ART a few days ago and it is even better. Right now I have 90% battery left, 5h 44 min on battery and 30 min screen time.

I am a light user, but that is phenomenal stand by time as someone who came from the n4. ART improved both my screen on time and stand by time.

OK good stuff but is there some sort of benchmark test similar to linpack or antutu, designed specifically for ART?

Just decided to try using ART.

Glad to see it potentially improves battery life. I've now gone through a full restore and switch over. We'll see how it goes!

Art enabled on s4 GE since day one, it's been rock solid. Takes longer to boot is only negative difference I've noticed.

I'm not sure if it's art or kit kat but I'm having battery life improvements. Haven't tried kit kat dalvik aside from rebooting a few times playing before enabling art.
