The "benefits of a PC" over an iMac

This really made me think about apples all-in-one design.

When the iSight camera breaks on an iMac, you'll have to send in the entire computer for service. On the other hand, the portable webcam on the Dell XPS 410 can just be unclipped and sent in for warranty repairs, without needing to ship the other components.
 
It's a very clever take on this famous Apple ad but in the end, I can't get by the original point of the ad which is what a god awful mess the Dell is in comparison to the iMac.

I'll wait a few days to get my beautiful, sleek iMac back, thanks. It's worth it, lol.

One could make that argument about a laptop vs. desktop. Yet, people are still willing to take that chance and get laptops.

Thats funny. The camera is ONE example. Id take the sleek look of the iMac any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Not to mention I wouldnt want the big round camera sitting on top of the monitor. Looks kinda goofy to me. :D
 
This ad compares all in one PCs with desktops.
That's just wrong.

Replace the iMac with a MacPro, or the Dell desktop with a Dell all in one.

2/ Custom Build options
3/ better software
4/ more software
5/ better reliability (at the moment)
6/ better performance
7/ Games
8/ Choice

plus many others I'm sure...
 
Let's be honest, how often do webcams break? The only way they break is if you drop them, and will you drop a built in iSight? No! Would you drop an add-on Webcam? Yes.
 
the best argument against macs is that apple sells outdated hardware for premium prices, and there's a sucker (including myself) who pays for it born every few minutes.

as for the image posted; what it doesn't mention is that particular dell system costs anywhere from $1800 to $2500.

The title is wrong

The problem with this add is that it should read "IF my webcam broke I'll just take my Mac to the Apple store so the Genius bar can hand over a new one per my AppleCare contract, but that's a big IF."

I have the original, stand-alone iSight camera. I've had it for years, it has never broken. In the meantime, my dad is on his 3rd Dell. Not to mention that most major metropolitan areas have an Apple store so no shipping is required.

Well think about this

1/ cost. A mac is £800 at the least. rather expensive for the bottom specs
2/ Custom Build options. You can customise a PC more than a Mac, and swap out major things such as graphics card, motherboard and all sorts for a lower price than upgrading a mac.
3/ Better software - i agree
4/ More software... you have to be kidding me... windows is a far more popular base for building on then OS X
5/Better reliability, 10 weeks ago i would have agreed, howver with all of the problems with the iMac. im not so sure.
6/Better performane. the OS yes... and running programs yes... i agree.
7/Games... on a mac, you have to be kidding me. windows has about 1000% more games than OS X.
8/Choice. Windows and PC in general have thousands more options than Macs

I was adding to it..... not arguing against it.
 
Why is this thread even getting posted on here? This is a Mac forum, 90% of us on here own some form of a Mac, 90% will prefer Macs over PC's. It's your choice, if you want a Mac, get one. If you prefer PC's, get one. They both have their pro's and con's, no point arguing about it is there. End of story.

Sure. Strangely enough, though, my Mac Pro is about the same mess as the Dell when I look on my desk. I wonder why Apple hasn't put their one and only customizable/expandable machine in that ad.

I also wonder why they are not showing their backup solution in that ad, either. I mean, Time Machine requires an EXTERNAL hard disk, even on an iMac. Let the mess begin. Also, Time Machine requires a hard disk that is much larger than the built-in disk of the computer. Now the new iMacs have 2 TB disk options, which leaves us with the question what backup device Apple is offering their customers for that. Time Capsule isn't big enough for that.

Or, simply put, this Apple ad is only any good when you switch off your brain and don't think about it for a second. It's their typical nonsense, especially when you compare the iMac in all its glory with their other Macs, namely the Mini and the Pro.

I agree. People make choices on everything they buy, usually making some sacrifice in cost, speed, design, features. Doesn't matter if its a car, computer, boat or whatever. People will always have a different opinion.
 
Windows forced me to buy a Mac. I need a linux based environment for work, Mac means I can have Windows and OSX when I need them, legitimately.
 
The first post was about humor, the second understood then somewhere between there and now people started debating the pro's and con's of what was in the picture.

I can see where the original post was coming from. I think it lost a bit of it's funny when it migrated to an Apple forum.

For me the humor had a huge FAIL when they put a Dell in the picture.

I wonder if a rule on this forum should be no posting till you've had your morning coffee.

Thanks for that, i was thinking, this would work better the other way around when i wrote it.

and as for this

That is soo true, i just wanted to show a funny picture, so people can have a giggle about it when they see it.
 
How about we all laugh at the Dell advert where they turn their laptops in to colourful sweets? Or am I the only one who thinks that advert is a bit weird.
 
This came out in June 2008. The arguments about fair comparison have already been made, as well as the fact that the iSight generally doesn't seem to have rampant issues.
