Why would they need to shut people up about it? From a marketing standpoint, nothing is better than people talking about your products, especially when they want to upgrade. It creates excitement. Apple doesn't want to shut them up. There is no such thing as bad publicity
Plenty of people complained when they made the iphones larger, that is why they still make a smaller size. And your crazy if you think that Apple will make a "limited collectors edition". All of their phones are collectors editions.

I came to the observation that the OP, TheRealAlex, is a consistant troll that frequents the iPad Rumors forums, drops his comments, and then never returns, leaving us as suckers to reply to his drivel. The irony of the OP's initial post is that, he suggested ways that the iPad Mini can "shut up" people, yet there are several posts here and elsewhere that get people talking about how they love their iPad Minis.

TL;DR, the iPad Mini appears to be popular, although Apple doesn't reveal individual iPad sales figures. If the iPad Mini is popular, we'll see a refresh.

That would work except for target groups like kids or people who are on a budget or want an affordable ereader and these make a huge part of the remaining mini user base.

I don't know if it's accurate to say that the iPad Mini is a budget option. It's easily one of the most expensive small tablets on the market. The truly budget conscious would get a much cheaper Android/Amazon tablet that can easily handle ereading and web surfing. I think people buy the Mini simply because they want a more portable iPad.

These users probably all exists. The mini was the most popular iPad when released and has a convincing form factor. Sure, cheap Android stuff exists too, but families would rather reuse their software purchases and get their kids an iPad, at least that's my experience. I'm not saying it's a budget option per se, but there has to be an entry level, and the cheapest to make tablet for Apple is the mini.

My 9.7 Pro is great but I'm still holding out for a Mini 5 to take along with me in my purse. I personally think Apple will update the Mini in the near future. Perhaps when the SE2 is released even. Wishful thinking on my part anyway.

I want to see a new mini with more screen real estate ala the 10.5" Pro (which fits into the previous 9.7" shell, roughly).

Put in an A10/A11 with 3GB or more RAM, and I'll finally upgrade my mini 2.

Get rid of the bezels on the mini and you'll have one heck of a mobile device! But even if Apple just does a modest upgrade to current chips and adds the ability of using the Apple pencil on it, i'll definitely buy one. I am currently still using the ipad mini 2 and patiently waiting for the next update. Please Apple. Then i'll stop talking about it. Lol
