The Big Dock Problem

After some investigation on the fist ipad hands-on photos, I discovered that there will be some problems with the ipad adapters when I have to charge the Battery, because they all have to use the only dock connector on the ipad.

For example:
I want to do a presentation with a video Beamer connected to the ipad. How should I now charge the ipad if the Battery is low?

Nobody else noticed that?

I wish there would be a dock with more than one connector or so...
 
Apple's other keyboards have USB ports on their sides, essentially extending the rear USB port used to two in the front. If you're lucky Apple will add another dock port to it's keyboard dock.
 
Apologies, I appear to have stumbled into this thread by mistake. I misread the title and thought it was a support group for a personal problem I have ;)
 
There are external batteries for the iPhone in the form of a case you slip it into. You're right in that it plugs into the dock connector, but I believe some manufacturers have put a second dock connector onto the bottom of the case itself, so you can still dock it. Maybe this will be done with iPad accessories too.

Um, make sure your iPad is fully charged before your big presentation? Is that really too hard?
 
sounds like a poor design on the manufacturers side.

it also sounds like there will indeed be a work around - start your complaining once the device and accessories actually COME OUT

Assuming that there are presentations that run 10 hours straight through, I would think that means it's probably a VERY big event/topic and might need something a bit more sophisticated than an iPad to to run it.
For example, I don't see Apple switching to using the iPad for their keynotes - maybe as a proof of concept for a segment, but I have to assume they have a series of computers and back-up computers to run their presentations.

EDIT: In addition, the current video-out cables for the iPhone/iPod have a USB plug among the video/audio cables that allow you to plug in the device to a computer and/or charge it while outputting the video.

Yup.

It's not realted to your fishing dock at your lake property and how you make sure it can be maintained.

Speaking of the big dock, it needs to be able to shrink in some way when not use use.
 
Hang on a sec... you want to take your 10" presentation tool that you have to hold in your hands and which only really makes sense if you're interacting with the screen and... have a cable plugged into it? Really? For that matter you're going to present for, oh let's be generous and say 5 hours is the real battery life doing that sort of thing, WHILE HOLDING A 0.68KG DISPLAY? If you're going to present with it on a stand you're going to give a bad presentation as you'll be constantly squinting at the screen. You'd be far better off with a laptop and a presentation remote.

10 hour presentations and no breaks? Sounds difficult.

I feel sorry for the audience.

Another drawback of the iPad is I can not store every movie made in the last 100 years on it at the same time.

This device is becoming more and more disappointing.

and you can't even beam songs to it from a zune!
 
Ok, 10 hrs are enough

it's just that you can't use a adapter when you charge the battery.

If my laptop is empty before a presentation, I just plug in the charger...

But maybe apple will design a Video Charging dock with a extra mini display port. (for 59$)

I guess my question would be, you know you have to give a presentation so why would you go into it unprepared with a low battery? Also, if your presentation is so long that you risk draining a full battery I doubt anyone will still be awake by the end so they won't notice your faux pas.
 
Op your under the assumption that apple hasn't thought about this already. The dock itself dosnt need to have multiple connectors. The cable could be supplied with USB and video outputs. We havnt seen what apple has to offer yet so why jump to conclusions?

Again I've got to ask, how are you going to give a presentation with an iPad while it's charging?

It's a device that only makes sense as a presentation tool if you're holding it. That means you need enough cable to get from your device to the power outlet while it's at least four foot off the ground (if you're sitting down then why on earth would you be using an iPad?). That's going to look AWFUL when you're presenting plus you run the risk of getting caught up in the cable, or moving a little too much and pulling the cable out and killing your presentation. Yeuch.

No worries, they don't actually filibuster anymore, they simply state their "intent to filibuster". :)

On topic... I've never in my 20+ years of meetings and presentations ever sat in one longer then 3 or 4 hours without a break for lunch anyhow. 10 hours was also stated for watching video, the battery may last longer when simply displaying a slide show. Hardly something to worry about.
 
Yeah I think the odds of the audience stoning the presenter is much greater than the chance the iPad battery will run out first.
 
I'm sure this will be compatible .. if not another accessory

With my iPhone, I've never had a problem with battery life using this because it charges your phone while it feeds video simultaneously.

OR am I missing a point to this thread?????

It's not an oversight on Apple's behalf, it's just undercooked at R&D I'm sure.
