I‘m a NA then turbo and finally supercharged person.

I don’t like supercharger whine.
I'm with you on that one. Luckily, it depends on the design. The kind applied to European origin cars like Audi, Jaguar, Mercedes, Land Rover, Porsche, Volkswagen don't do that. I love the instant nature of it, no delay, like the best bits of a NA and Turbo combined.

So the french auto mags let the Corvette ZR1 slip 12 hours early.

I've owned only one supercharged vehicle, a 2014 Dodge Charge R/T AWD with a Whipple Supercharger. Instant is right. It was a beast.

Most of the time I kind of liked the whine, as it was audible in normal driving but not excessively so. Of course that changed whenever I put my foot in it. 😁

Yup the American muscle goes for a bit more drama 🤣 It takes a different approach to a supercharger; but what it looses by the design flaws it more than compensates in scaring by unleashing the sounds of the hounds from hell 🤣

I have had two, both bolted to a Land Rover 3.0 V6. The irony of this engine is that it gets worse mileage than the 5.0L V8 it replaced. And produces 60/35 HP less.

I love supercharger whine.

I like supercharger whines better than loud aftermarket turbo blow off valves a lot of people install...

(I am aware that supercharges have a bypass valve that can mimic that sound, but the loud aftermarket valve is more commonly installed on turbo cars)

Just arrived back from a few days in Rome, man I love all the small city-cars. The tarmac they have over there seem to dampen the tire-noise so its pleasant whenever a electric cars passes.
Rented myself a vespa for the day and have to say that the Italian drivers are good and allow for the motorcycles to pass.

The new A5. Not bad, looks like a typical over designed contemporary Audi. Looks like they've succumbed to the tablet dash theme everyone else is doing.

ICE and Electric options. Coupé gone and replaced with sedan/estate.

Nice to see that Audi is getting back in the game again. Sure, the A3 and A1 had some fun versions but it seems like they have been asleep for 15-20 years.

Reminds me of the last car I ever owned and sold in March 2012. Renowned for expensive engine related issues although I never had any of them. Bought used, an Audi A6 2.7 Litre Bi Turbo. I loved that car.

Moved to Singapore then the Philippines so have not owned a car since.

That looks amazing although I am more a GT cruiser. Given I am not rich or famous the best car I ever had, and the only car I would ever own again, was an E31 V12. The eight series was and still is beautiful to look at and a joy to drive.........except if it is icy. Don't remind me!

Thank you! I mean it’s no 5 series level of comfort, but the ride is surprisingly comfortable, even on these LA roads. About to head home to the SF Bay all the way from San Diego.

E31 is a special chassis too! Very rare stateside

Alright everyone. Introducing my 2006 BMW M3. I originally wanted to engine swap my last car. I absolutely love how this thing screams to 8,000rpm. Full titanium exhaust and a fat BBK.

Very nice :) Enjoy :)

Until I had an M, I never realised what was so special or different. That is special!
BBK = Big Brake Kit — a common / not so common option on real M cars…

Anything's better than the pop crackle bang noises that make me wanna stuff the owner's testicles in a meat grinder - while still attached to the owner of course.

I'm not sure how/why anyone thinks those ridiculous popping noises are COOL anyway. It sounds like a ****** old car. Like Onslow's old Cortina from Keeping Up Appearances.

To be fair, some performance tuned engines just do that. Not everyone just adds it or has it remapped. My Porsche does it, my previous Range Rover does it, my wife’s BMW M2 does it.

But yes perhaps your Toyota Camry doesn’t 🤷‍♂️

I think they “just do it” because the manufacturers want them to do it in sport modes to make the customers happy. If they really wanted to make the exhaust quiet, they would.

I’m not opposed to it, when in sport modes.

But after having EVs, it’s a lot of noise without much go…

For us bikers, I have loud exhausts to hopefully alert drivers so they pay attention (no guarantee it works).

Yes, and no. Some circuits have sound limits on it. But ultimately making it quieter does mean putting restrictions in it. Now a total free flow is not good either, but there is a lot of science behind it. Take the top of motorsport, F1, those engines do it.

You'll be surprised how many ICE cars can easily outrun them. Even something a simple and cheap like a Golf R can run rings around most. Yes for many people an EV feels, fast, it is fast, and it may be superfast compared to what they had before. But anyone who is used to fast cars, to sports cars, will know, there is always someone faster. I really wouldn't use a generic comment like a lot of noise without much go - you'll be surprised.

Yeah right; for it to be loud it would have to be under load, not quit the safety feature to get people's attention for that reason when you do that.

And sometimes, it isn’t just about how fast you go, but just the experience. And the sound of the engine can be freaking awesome if done right( sorry civic owners, that fart can is not doing it right).

A huge if not the main part of my decision making on why I went Z06 instead of Stingray was the sound and experience of the LT6. I won’t be tracking the car and I certainly can’t safely use all 670 HP on the street. The Stingray was the practical and logical choice. But I wanted the flat plane crank engine and its sound.

The Z06 crackles and pops when you let up on the gas. So did my Camaro SS.

Yes people can take it too far and be obnoxious with the mods, but fast isn’t everything. And while I’m obviously not anti-EV( model 3 is my daily), I will miss the sound of the engine as a car enthusiast.

Definitely. Especially on naturally aspired engines its a beautiful sing song :) The way the gearbox and engine worked together on my wife's BMW M2C sounded amazing, and even with the EU exhaust limitations it showed its naturaly crackle and pops.

My daughter actually gets ill in our EV, it is to do with the brain not getting that notice in advantage that something is about to happen

Exactly, lots of stock factory performance cars do. Even my hybrid does 🤣
