To be fair/clear that is the outcome of not ignoring things on the shoulder like it used to. Which dovetails into folks allowing the cars to run into emergency vehicles.

I would imagine they are minimizing the messaging to keep the drivers' eyes on the road, rather than the UI. It did say why it was changing lanes in the FSDs UI.
I still stand that this seems to be an issue that is only widespread with Tesla. That is my issue with the technology. It doesn’t feel fully-baked.
Phantom braking being a full on slam on the brakes was well before the issue of Tesla's slamming into emergency vehicles caught public attention.
Tesla should scrap the basic AP stack and just let everyone use the FSD highway stack. We don't get phantom braking anymore.
It has been a long time for me, so I presumed the braking issues cropped up more when they started trying to figure out how to not run into cross traffic stuff. the full FSD stack doesn't slam on brakes. Our complaint now is that the speed setting is a max setting not a you will go this fast setting.
This still highlights that the car doesn't give you enough information to understand why it is doing something.
As I understand it, the reason they stopped using input from Radar was specifically to address the "phantom braking." The story has it that this is what was causing the conflicts, Radar would pickup an object like a wall off to the side, or some other object and the system would panic and assume it was an object that would cause an accident. This was in combination with manual coding for AP/FSD. Now with the NN, maybe able to make the call between radar and vision without Phantom Braking.
Seen too many wham bam Tesla videos. I drive expecting the car in front to slam in their brakes.
I have wondered about the future of SuperCruise. I may be mistaken, but it seems like in its current conception, it’s a bit of a dead end. The system is dependent on streets getting LIDAR mapped by specialized vehicles. It’s just not possible for GM to map every street in America and frequently enough to keep everything updated. Plus driving off the highway is far more complicated- it has to account for street signs, stop lights, pedestrians, bicyclists, vehicles doing the wrong thing, etc.
It would presumably need a lot of visual processing and prediction advancement Tesla has made with FSD. But I suspect unlike Tesla they would develop LIDAR over optical cameras as that seems to be the safer bet, as far as I can tell.
Basically everyone else is betting on premapped roads for autonomy.
It still isn't clear to me if LIDAR can read stoplights and street signs, I thought it was purely a "more robust" version of radar.
It can't. Lidar is used for live mapping. Even companies that have Lidar are using vision for almost everything, and Lidar for checks and balances (basically to confirm what vision sees). Including Lidar is the future, it just needs to be cheap enough that it can be included in entry level vehicles like how back up cameras are now. But vision based is not going anywhere and is a problem that every manufacture is going to have to solve. Lidar is just an additional safety backup.
In my opinion it will be much easier to add Lidar after vs trying to solve vision & Lidar at the same time. The reason is, you will be so far behind the game (waiting for affordable long lasting Lidar) and will become over reliant on Lidar instead of using it only as a backup. Processing, interpretation and decision making all have a cost. Also, these Lidar sensors need to be as reliable as cameras too.
It was a beautiful morning, I was ready to jump into my comfy cruiser. But its cousin is peeking around the corner, and just begging for a fun drive. 
No lidar, no cameras, no traction control, super basic EPROM as a processor. Just a well-balanced setup in a great chassis. Simple, and effective.

I couldn’t resist with the way the prices are at the moment. It's a 911 996 fully optioned with extended leather pack and factory Carrera Aero Kit. It's for my daughter as her daily driver. Always had a mini me car, so now again. Weirdly good value for money on insurance for a youngster, her previous 2.2 diesel was 3x more expensive 🤷♂️ 26 years old, 101K miles, Hartech replacement engine.
I couldn’t resist with the way the prices are at the moment. It's a 911 996 fully optioned with extended leather pack and factory Carrera Aero Kit. It's for my daughter as her daily driver. Here's my 2007 E81 130i LE (3.0 straight 6 N52)
I bought a new toy / weekend banger last September and have done a lot to it as preventative maintenance (mainly all the engine gaskets (it is a petrol BMW and they like to leak oil a bit) Full coolant flush and refill; fresh diff oil & plug, fresh gearbox oil & plugs; CDV deleted, engine oil/filter etc.
Also upgraded the front brakes from the OEM single piston 330mm discs, pads and calipers to the Brembo 340mm 4 pot calipers off the F3X series; with 2 piece Brembo discs and Pagid Street+ pads with HEL braided lines all round and Motul RBF600 fluid
Very recently it's had 18" Protrack One alloys with Michelin PS4S tyres fitted and I sold the original wheels with Michelin all season tyres on (will sort another set sometime over summer for winter etc) and just in the last few weeks it's had a FULL suspension overhaul (every part); inc. all new arms (OEM spec Lemforder); drop links/track rod ends etc - ARB (saway bar) bushes, Whiteline rear subframe inserts, new engine mounts, and Bilstein B14 coilovers fitted with all new OEM BMW top mounts, gaskets, bolts etc etc
I've stuck with OEM BMW spec rather than the likes of poly bushes or M3 arms, as I want to retain the BMW ride comfort/compliance best I can due to the rural roads that surround where we live in Lancashire (ie. they're horrendous, unloved and untreated)
It drives absolutely brilliantly now; not too firm, but firmer and very well dialled in after a full tracking/alignment/corner weighting and fast-road set up by my motorsport mechanic pals

That’s a very nice one. Is the engine just with the lokasil fixes (no more Change Engine Light) or more thoroughly upgraded such as an X50?
I would have thought most of the problem 996 and 981 models would have had replacement engines by now.

Yeah, this has a replacement by Hartech, a very reputable firm in the UK. All good.

And thanks; I wasn't sure on the wheels at first but they've really grown on me. I wanted them in silver but it was a 5month backlog; so went for the anthracite with an idea of getting them refurbed if I wasn't happy with them
But I am, so they're staying as they are

Here is my 2022 G42 BMW 220D Msport.
Took delivery of her back in December 2024 as a demo, only had about 19,000km (11,806 miles) on the clock, it’s now at 31,100 (19,324miles), and I have truly enjoyed it. Recently got the windows tinted as well (need to take new pics of that, lol).
Very frugal getting me around 800km (497 miles) on a tank, with it being a mild hybrid diesel the torque is available almost instantly and low down in the rev range so great for town and city driving that I do a lot of.
Fetched it from Port Elizabeth and drove it same day back to Johannesburg (about an 8 hour drive) so got to know it well from day 1

Our 2105 F31 touring got a full in-depth detail yesterday - the night before IO gave it a full decontamination wash and towel dry and yesterday it had a full machine polish with Lake Country blue pads and Koch Chemie 6.01 cut & finish; followed by another full wash, towel dry and then a good coating of Soft99 Fusso hard wax and buff

Just gave mine a quick wash as the back is still bad. Two bucket method and pressure washer. I’d not have bothered except for the bird poo in the week.
We're forecast warm and sunny all week to be fair. But it's the way it goes here in Lancashire 😂
Plus between our houses I've nicknamed it *****-kite alley as the birds do wait for me to do both cars and then start target practice 🤔🤣
Mine is already getting covered in blossom from next doors tree. Okay when it’s dry as it blows off (I towel dried the car), but will stick overnight with the dew etc.
Yeah; we're surrounded by a huge woodlands, so it's inevitable, that's why it took me so long to decontaminate on Friday evening; the clay mitt took a few passes on the bonnet & roof etc
But now it's been machine polished and waxed; it'll be much easier to clean and TBH; a diluted solution of a decent citrus pre-cleaner really helps before layering on snowfoam etc
I'll do my 130i this afternoon; that's already been machine polished and waxed a few weeks back etc; but it's orange with dust currently (supposed to be carbon black) 😂
+1 for the bimmer trend. Did a maintenance wash + sealant top up this weekend given the upcoming weather. Took some snaps...might delete later.
