This seems like a tiny problem. Personally I'm not even looking at the monitor frame, I'm focused on the content.

I think you'd be better off with just getting 2 ASDs if you're that concerned about aesthetics.

Yes for me it will be annoying lol. I will wait for the new ASD 2 due out, according to rumours. I want mini LED as for my use it is better, OLED is best but again with my use pointless as they will get burn in.

Acer has a dual-mode 27" 5K on the way, 72Hz/144Hz:

https://news.acer.com/acer-refreshe...werful-new-pcs-and-displays-for-casual-gamers

See the specs for the Nitro XV270X at the end of the press release, announced Q1 2026 release, price = US$899, €699, CN¥4999.

It’s DisplayHDR 400, with 2000:1 (native) contrast and 95% P3 gamut.

I’m not sure what “DFR” means in the specs, but Google AI tells me it stands for “Dynamic Frequency & Resolution” — a term invented by LG Display for this dual-mode capability. See this article (about OLED, but the concept applies to IPS Black as well):

https://news.lgdisplay.com/en/2024/...echnology-a-new-standard-for-gaming-monitors/

Here’s a good quote from the introduction: “While it is theoretically possible for a monitor to achieve high refresh rate and resolution simultaneously, most games are divided into genres that require either high refresh rate or high resolution, which is why it was deemed more efficient to develop the DFR technology. There was also demand from consumers who wanted to use their monitors for things outside of gaming, such as watching movies and office work, which also prompted us to develop a gaming OLED panel that features variable resolution.”

I expect this monitor will be 75Hz at 5120x2880 and 144Hz at either 2560x1440 or 1920x1080.
Correct: 72Hz at 5K (QQHD) and 144Hz at 1440p (QHD). The advance specs don’t say anything about 1080p or 720p, but it seems likely they’re also supported — the only question would be at what refresh rates.

Before anyone gets too excited about 72Hz, this is from a review of the Viewsonic 5K:

Great image quality, but only at 70 Hz not 75 Hz. The monitor lists multiple refresh rates as supported in the operating system (i. e. 60 Hz, 70 Hz, 75 Hz), however it seems like 75 Hz is an unstable hardware overclock that causes skipped frames which makes it visibly less smooth than when the monitor is set to 70 Hz. I used the Blur Busters testufo "Frame Skipping" test with a slow motion camera to verify gaps in the squares. The "Vertical Scrolling" test is smooth with the monitor in 70 Hz and stutters significantly in 75 Hz, using both Windows and Mac. I thus have the monitor set to 70 Hz which is still better than 60 Hz, however for this product to list 75 Hz is very misleading.

Thanks for the detailed review! We're glad to hear you're enjoying the monitor. You're right that while 75Hz is listed as an available option, the VP2788-5K has a native refresh rate of 60Hz, with 70Hz being the highest stable refresh rate. The 75Hz setting is achieved through scalar processing and may not perform consistently, especially since this model doesn’t support FreeSync or Adaptive Sync. For the best experience, we recommend using the monitor at 5K resolution and 60Hz.

Worth bearing in mind that although these companies are marketing their monitors in different ways, they are all using exactly the same BOE panel.

not watched yet, but more discussion on Philips 5K and review coming soon
Looks great. I wish there were display models in the stores so that I could compare it to the ASD. I could buy ASD for the same price Philips is offering theirs, but adjustability + HDMI output is really swaying me towards the Brilliance. I wonder how good the webcam and speakers are, I know the webcam is pretty subpar in the ASD. I'd go as far as to say it's almost as bad as the one in my decade+ old Cinema Display
