There is a serious amount of crap on the app store and some really bad devs. I thought it would be interesting to try and make a definitive list of the crap on the app store that should be avoided. Hopefully it might help some users from possibly wasting money on bad apps. Maybe if the thread gets some attention it could help remove maybe one or two of the crap apps (although that sadly seems a very long shot)

Anyhow my craplist is as follows:

AppEngines: All of there books are such a waste of space and clutter the store pretty badly. They should really have one app to distribute all of the books. Especially as well as I gather it they are distributing free books for a price??

Riddle Racer Lite: What can I say. This app sucks big time. It doesnt work at all. Trying to play the game is impossible.

Touch Reflex: Its rubbish because the high score system is totally rigged so its impossible to feature unless you have reactions of Superman!!

iNetworkTest: In the UK this app does not work on o2's data network. However the people who make the app say they are looking into it. But when I use it to measure my home wireless connection it is definitely a long way out in its readings. Making it next to useless.

iMaze: Its just really uninspired. Looks cheap, yes its free, but still there are a lot of really much better free apps.

I use iNetworkTest and it's fine.

I definitely agree on the maze app. Ooh it's free. Ooh it shows.

I think iDemocrat and iRepublican are well-documented shams (99 cent jpegs).

Any paid app that has a comparable free app should be listed. I'm looking at you, iBeer and countless flashlights.

As far as the eBooks, at least they've thrown them in their own category. Unfortunately, these are mostly (if not all) books that have expired copyrights, which means they're OLD. I'd love to see new books come with digital copies so you can take them around to read at times. I know a lot of authors are wanks about this (J.K. Rowling, ahem), but it could be the start of a nice new trend.

i love riddle racer but its confusing at first but it WORKS correctly. You have to get your car to the goal. You can only slide into cones and cones can only slide into you or other cones.

iDemocrat and iRepublican are the most worthless apps on the store. Honostly, even if they were free they would be completely worthless, but being 99cents. Outrageous.

Box Score Baseball is a total sham. The worst part is, the developer (or his friends/family) put up a couple 'fake' 5 star reviews. If you look at the developer's other application, there's reviews from the same people, with a very similar review. such BS.

Twinkle. At least it stopped crashing now. And in theory, its a nice app/idea. But here is the catch.. People use it to post the most inane, dull and boring posts I've ever seen. It's basically a brain fart dumping ground for the socially inept.

It's coming. Mike Stackpole (a well-liked fantasy author) released a new book for $5 on the app store, and others have as well. Might take a little while, but I think authors and publishers will see it as a good alternative eventually.

I disagree. Twinkle is by far the best "Twitter" app so far. Yes people do post stupid stuff, but that's not a function of the app, that's the idiots using it. I think Twinkle is on the verge of some really great social networking apps. Cant' wait for BrightKite to release thier app, that will be great.

You have a point. Perhaps I was wrong to slate the app for the mundane people that insist on posting their mundane crap on it (Thus spoiling it). As I said though, it is a nice idea, and not a badly put together app either :)

Twinkle just needs the ability to block users. There's this dude who FLOODS nonstop named dante. All I want to do is block him. He lives in a city that is 49 miles away from me.

Or at least give me arbitrary distance tolerance. So I can set it to 48 miles and just not see him, if blocking is a bigger deal than it sounds, which I doubt it is because it can be done CLIENT SIDE!

That's what the division function on the calculator is for. :)

The tip calculators that split the tip among all the members of the party take into account their meal value. Sure, this can still be done on a calculator, but it requires a bunch of extra steps.

Ex.

Jim's Meal - $13
John's Meal - $10
Jane's Meal - $6

Total Bill = $29

18% Tip = $5.22

Each persons share (equally divided) would be ($29 x .18) / 3 = $1.74

Each persons share by their meal total would be:
Jim - ($29 x .18) / ($13 / $29) = $2.35
John - ($29 x .18) / ($10 / $29) = $1.77
Jane - ($29 x .18) / ($16 / $29) = $1.10

iNetWorkTest is actually really good. Far from worthless.

Or you use a calculator and multiply each of their individual tabs by 1.18 to get their total and share of the tip combined.

+1

I guess some ppl don't understand the simple math. Maybe they'll understand losing $2 for a stupid app that can be accomplished for free.....:D
