Wow, i thought they would get a quicker responce time. They are still at 16ms. I see no reason to upgrade from my 2005.

Second note: I did notice that they are a few pounds lighter.

Just wondering if anyone has purchased one of these. I'm thinking of selling my 17" apple studio and buying into the wider workspace. Since I can get one for $390, the it's a tempting deal. But, well, this studio display looks great and dell's look, neh.. not so great. Still, can't get a good widescreen with USB for that price usually..

Thanks!

I actually bought one a few days ago and I just got it today.

I have it hooked up to my Intel iMac and it is fine.

I dont know much about monitors but it is fine for me.

It was easy to hook up. I didnt need to use the dell CD.

The only problem so far is getting the color the same as my iMac but that is not the monitors fault.

Here is a picture if it helps at all?

There are more details about the 2007 here. Hope the link works. HDCP=yes, btw. Not sure what it is though. Will check since it sounds sinister (copy protection??).

I'll have to have a search around for those reviews. But you may well be right. The 2005 is still available through Dell but is more expensive. I'm hoping to get something under $400. The buzz on MR seems to be around the 24" Dells but that's way out of my range.

Nice set-up BTW, Schnebar. It actually looks better on your desk than it does on the dell site

anybody heard any updates on the banding issue...? that stuff is really bad

also quick question about response time
16ms....
from my calculations, although not sure if accurate, that is an equivlant of 60Hz refresh rate on a CRT, correct?

that's bad news, not for still images since LCD's don't flicker but motion graphics...
what do you think?

Nope. I think it looks better as well.

A lot of times when a new product comes out, people are too quick to criticize... and I believe this is the case here. I'll wait to see side-by-side real world pictures to make my final judgement, but from what I'm lookin at, the 2007fpw has better styling.
I like it better than my 2005fpw. I just bought two 2007fpws for $800 out the door. Neither are mine, but they're nicer.

Woah! Just spent about 30-40 mins going over the 39 page thread on the banding issue over on the Dell forums. This is so disappointing. I need the space, but really, you should check out some of the screenshots people have posted! Looks like Bridget Riley got hold of 'em.

Schnebar, how's yours look playing a dvd?

Here is the link to the dell forum discussion

edit: Jessica, just noticed your post. is yours banding-free, so to speak? I guess I'm curious if there's been a silent update. Mind you, I'd be getting mine with a student discount (one of the bonuses of going back to school, eh?), so I'd probably get the worst of the worst.

edit edit: wtf is up with ebay sellers charging $100 for shipping?! I thought ebay had policies to prevent that sort of thing. (not random, was looking for 2005 prices on ebay)

I dont know about the 60Hz thing but this is what it sais about the monitor.

And mine came with a 3 year waranty which was on the site abuot a week ago. So if any of these bad things happen I can get it fixed I think.

There's no way I'd want to give up the component/other connectors of my 2405FPW for the new model. Unfortunate, really.
None of Dell's 20" series ever had component video inputs. The 2407WFP will be almost the same as your except faster response time and HDCP.

Here is the user guide for the 2407WFP if you want to compare features with your 2405WFP.

According to 'Chris M', Dell forums moderator, Dell engineers are supposed to be looking into the banding issue and will release a response "in the next five days."

Link to announcement

I really hope there is a resolution to this. The viewsonic looks like it should be nice, though going over review after review dells came out on top (sometimes the viewsonic). I'll be checking back there for news and will update this thread if/when they make an announcement.

OK. To update on the Dell 2007FPW Monitors. According to the Dell forum Moderator, Dell engineers are working on a firmware fix that they believe they will have by Friday. The firmware is not downloadable - it has to go through the Dell facory or one of their 'hubs.'

I really hope this takes care of the issue. It appears today is the last day to get it as low as $358 - not much time left and I can't decide.

Also, if you're interested I found a weird route to the 2405 at $759.20 :
simply go here: link and click the "redeem coupon" link for the 2005FPW, which takes you to a dell page which, if you follow through to the monitor section has the 2405 listed at that price. It is not listed at that price if you go through the 'front door.'

edit: The 2405 seems to have gone on sale through the front door!

The back is ugly.

Everything else is ok though.

I love comments like this. Who the hell is looking at the back? I don't know about you guys, but when I look at a monitor, I'm usually looking at it from the front, and spend the vast majority of the time likewise. But maybe that's just me...

What color is the power LED I've seen few different pictures were it is either blue or green. The old ones were only green and orange.

My 1707FP's light is green. Dunno if it's the same on the 2007.

Any question?
