The Donna part would have been interesting, but meh. I'd see that as also cheapening her ending.

As for the Tardis bit - glad that didn't happen. I prefered the way it ended. However, it would have made it more exciting and left on an upbeat as opposed to a downbeat.

oh
The latest rumour round goes something like this

John Simm may be back
"I'm the Master. Simple as that. I don't want to be Doctor Who. I might be the Master again... I'm not allowed to say."

Some rumours that Catherine Tate may return as Donna for one of the specials

The big one: Some bookmakers have stopped taking bets on Paterson Joseph as 11.
He has already appeared in new who as the dick-ish winner of The Weakest Link in Bad Wolf
currently in the new version of Survivors

Obviously huge pinches of salt with this lot might be total BS

If the Beeb schedule it with the new Wallace and Gromit short
ITV may as well show a screen saver

remember last years got about 12 million and a 50% audience share

What a hell of a let down

I could possibly say without a doubt that was the worst doctor who episode in a long long time. It felt like an overcast Sarah Jane Adventures episode. Lets hope the remaining specials are a long way off this poor excuse for an episode of doctor who.

Ha ha ha. Actually I thought it was quite representative of RTD's work.

When I sit down to a story, I have to trust that the storyteller will deliver on his promises. He creates expectations by using a title like The Next Doctor or by creating a character that we think has significance (the cybershades, among others). Significance in a screenplay = important information for us to understand how the script moves to climax and through it to resolution. I know I sound like a textbook here, but it's actually quite a turnoff when the writer just discards all of that for a deus ex machina (the dalek whatsigmagig, the scream) to resolve a plot that then has no meaning or significance as a whole.

The theme could have been about facing yourself (as the Doctor believes he is doing at the beginning), or about revenge of the sexes, or about post-traumatic stress, but it's not. It's about the set pieces - the children ludicrously working in the cybermen's dungeon, the Doctor facing down a giant monster, or saving a helpless child, blah blah.

This turned into more of a rant than I thought it would. It must be all the holiday cheer.

I didn't think it was too bad. However, it certainly wasn't the best - nor worst (Love and Monsters).

That said, I agree that RTD doesn't know how to write a good DW episode. I certainly enjoy aspects of his episodes, but nothing about them has yet to be original. I'm not an old Who fan, but I can tell he uses staples from the Who cannon to develop his stories and in turn I think they are weaker for that.

Perhaps the sadest aspect of this is that he will likely be the one to write Tennant's last script. :(

I thought it was fun and appropriate in the context of a Christmas Special (since all previous Christmas Specials have not been up to par with the rest of the series) so in that respect I didn't mind it at all. I agree though, definitely not one of the better episodes - but also not one of the worst.
