$50, even on the top of the line 13"? I expected $100 across the board.

You're still paying less than us in the UK.

At educational pricing, MBA 11" stock 2GB RAM, 64GB storage = MacBook 2.4GHz, 2GB RAM, 250GB storage.

Edit: are you looking at AUS$ or USD$?

USD.

FWIW though, I live in Japan (can't access edu pricing here online so no idea what it is).

I'm looking at the Higher Education pricing in the UK. It's still not any better. There's at least a £115 difference between that and USD std pricing.

EDU pricing in Germany

My advice is to call the Apple store and ask them for an offer, at least here in Germany.

I ordered the maxed-out 11.6" (1.6 GHz, 4G, 128G) and the USB-Ethernet adapter. In the German online store the normal price for this setup is 1358 Euros. In the online EDU-store it is 1277 Euros. When I called them, they offered it to me for 1197 Euros, that's almost 12% or 161 Euros off.

Hope this helps.

That is very true, talking to them seems to yield lower offers.

$50 got me the neoprene sleeve in burgundy red! (They only had purple online so I had to phone my order in)

What did you order it from? I would really love to have something to protect this baby? So delicate compared to my MB I almost feel like I am going to break this.

Base 11.6 inch is £729 in the UK with Uni education discount.

£120 difference

well, if you complain the price on mac, you shouldn't even consider to buy it. $1000 is nothing for mac. if you want to save money, why don't you buy PC laptop which is similar with similar spec? there are lots of decent ultra portable laptop in the market. Asus is one of decent companies make that one.

I always find it funny when people are so upset by educational discounts on the lower end Macs.

If you're spending $1400 on a computer, what's an extra $50?

I mean heck, be thankful Apple even offers educational discounts on Macs. They don't have to give you anything. Don't kid yourself, you wouldn't run off and buy a PC just because Apple won't give you a bit of a discount. ;)

If you're not doing build to order, you save much more shopping at Amazon on the final total.

if you do build to order, you have no chance. At least on build to order you also save a bit on the processor upgrade, ram upgrade, etc. albeit just a few dollars difference.

Plus you get free Apple Care with the UK higher education discount :D

Not exactly, you get a 3yr hardware warranty. Applecare adds phone support 3yr and also they will send a courier to collect and return if you have full applecare. If you just have the HE warranty then you either have to get the product to a genius bar (nearest to me is 2hr drive) or pay to send back.

MacMall cheaper than edu discount

Just ordered from them, tho the 2.13 4/256 is backordered til 11/5... perhaps the savings of no sales tax and $100 off applestore price will get some heavy duty kleenex waiting...

ps they offer some cheesy rebate netting u free parallels 5 and hp deskjet.. i dont need them but i got em all the same - free shipping all the same
