They actually read the guide.

Reading it further, I understand now. I will wait and see what the retail box print and search for the necessary ROM to flash my card. I was trying pin down which card to get to test out and did not want to spend too much $$ doing it. Also having 2009 Mac Pro 4,1 does not help the matter, since there are no spare Molex connector. Will post with my result.

Thanks for putting with nubs.

Which slot does the 4890 go in to flash it? Obviously the LCD is going to be connected to my GT120... Sorry didn't find this...

Ok, thanks Cindori, so let me just make sure I have these steps right before I get started.

Going to put the new 4890 in the second slot.
Boot into bootcamp and backup the original rom with gpu-z
Boot back into OS X and flash with rom using Zeus
Install the driver patch
reboot OS X

Did i miss anything?

Cool, this is exciting! :D

Ok, I have the 2 cables to plug it into the mobo...

A general notice about the main post and the make-your-own-rom package. Not meant as a response to you ;)

Ohh, never mind me then... :p

Well going to get started, will report back with a status...

Thanks for the help! :)

Well it appears to have worked! Surprisingly simple... Used the over-clocked rom file in your roms.zip

Thanks for help and suggestions!:)

We need a Hero !!!

The Golden Guide to Flashing Graphic Cards
There are also (hundreds?) of roms scattered in the Card threads (Use search function!)

So, all this work done but there is one thing we could really use. Hopefully there is a super compulsive person out there who would like to compile the list of ROMs. Have a look at the ones CIndori has in his ROMs folder, that is what we need. A picture, a model number, the original ROM and the Mac modified ROM. Would be nice if you also included the Post # so details could be followed and compared.

Anyone up for the challenge?

If your flash goes well, can you tell me which ROM you use, since I got the same card as you but mine is still in the mail. Thanks and good luck. (fingers crossed for you)

What would also be nice is to have a way to see gpu temps and fan speeds from OS X. I was hoping that istat menus would display it but it did not on mine.

Would be good to know if i need to reflash with more agressive clocks.

Very nice. My card arrive today and I will give it a go with my 2009 Mac Pro 4,1 and report back when I get a chance tonight or tomorrow.

Is my 2006 Mac Pro able to provide enough power for the following?

Quad 3Ghz
2 DVD drives
4 harddisks
4890 card

there is none for osx afaik

I did find this...
http://www.atpurpose.com/atMonitor/

But it doesn't seem to work... :(

Edit:

Ok, I just tested the card out in Windows 7 playing Dragon Age... Playing the game gets me a fairly constant 83c. If I jump back into OS X and fire up Dragon Age there (cider port) with the same settings/resolution, can I assume the card is hitting the same temp. Are there separate fan settings in the ROM for the Windows side compared to the OS X side?

s.m.t., is it possible for you to upload your original rom, since you have the same card I have from neweggs. I am having hard time setting up my boot camp (might be bad windowz installer disc) to backup my video rom. I just need to have it in case I screw things up. Thanks.

I would but I could not get mine to backup either, so I just pulled the trigger and flashed. Figured I could fine an original on the web somewhere if I ran into trouble. Sorry...

So here is the update of my XFX HD-489X-ZSFC Ver 1.6 flashing

It was a success and I managed to back up the original rom too (thanks for the reply s.m.t.)

To me the hardest part was setting up boot camp and installing Windowz.... it took to damn LONG.

With the new Mac Pro 2009 4,1, you have to set up boot camp first and place the card in slot 1 since there are no extra Molex power connector on the newer mac. Install the proper drivers for your card then you can backup the ROM with GPU-Z.

Use the Winflasher to flash the modified ROM. I use the ROM posted by macchrissli. Which really made the fan nice and quiet.

Once you got the card flashed, you can boot into Mac OSX. If you have dual monitor you will have one working. Run Zeus and go to driver and install the appropriate driver for your Mac OSX version. Reboot and you should have dual monitor working.

WoW has faster FPS with higher graphic setting then my old 4870 card.

Thanks to Cindori for answering questions that he had done in the forum for like n!th times.
