Hi Luigi, need to upgrade my mac pro 1,1 graphic card (got the ati X1900 now, but since i upgraded to Leopard i'm havin very frequent issues, freezing, etc..). What steps did you follow exactly?
PS: sei italiano? in caso mi mandi un tuo contatto email?

perspixe, got it for u here http://groths.org/mapp.zip

Cindori, thanks again.
I actually managed to get the 7 extensions from the previous owner also.
They were the same you provided me, as far as version numbers and file sizes go.
They gave me same results: support of Dual-Link, QECI validated from within Zeus, but poor OpenGL performance. 1/10th of what it should be approximately.
I began thinking then it was the rom that was not optimised. I tried flashing another XFX 4890 rom that killed the card. Even in a Windows PC atiflash would hang and I could not reflash. I had to boot DOS from a USB key in the PC to force blind flash it back to the mac rom I got with the card. Now it's back to where it was.
I really think the rom is the issue. Maybe it can be solved maybe not.
I'll research about roms and what could be helpfull is that I have the original PC one and the Mac one at hand, so maybe I could find out where to optimise it. Starting from scratch really so it will take some time...

Fantastic Thread!

Attaching the XFX HD-487A-ZWFC 1 GB Ver E.0 ROM I made

I have the XFX Part No.: HD-487A-ZWFC Ver G.1
that I picked up from Newegg.com.
I actually did the first flash using the macxfx.rom dated 3/20/09, using this guide:
http://web.me.com/jacobcroft/4870Flash/4870Flash.html
before I found the Golden Guide.

I get the power cable warning at startup.

I can't put the computer to sleep (MacPro1,1), and Quartz Extreme is Not Supported.

I used Zeus to check to see if I needed the driver patch and the answer was "No" to the Quartz Driver being installed.

I selected ATI 4000 Series (only option) and OSX 10.5.8 which is the operating system currently running.

I select Download and go through the installation process and then reboot. I still get "No" when I check to see if the driver patch is needed.

Next I tried using Zeus to install the rom listed at the top of this post but get the following message: "Flash Aborted! Possible reason:
ROM already identical to card firmware
Card not compatible with ROM or Zeus

My card looks like the 4870 ZWFC pictured near the top of the Golden Guide.

Thanks for any assistance, this has been a fun adventure, but I'm ready to get back to work on my mac. Of course the apps that I need to use utilize QE.

Mike

Good luck with ZWFC & Leopard.

I only had one here for a brief while, but I never got it to run well in Leopard.

It will def be single display, and have some other issues.

Better in SL.

Thanks for the tip, sounds like I should upgrade to SL.
I am writing back for clarification. Cindori said to qeci, does that mean from Zeus? or does it mean to run the QE_CI_Exotic_cards_10_5_8 Installer?

Does SL resolve the problems I listed?

Ran 10.5.8 combo update, rebooted and no go. Won't boot into OSX. Thinking I should reflash with above listed ROM from a Dos boot disk.
Thoughts?

Hi,

installed the ZEUS Driver today, because I got my MacPro working after 10.6.4 with some trying.
With Starcraft II I got some small graphic bugs.
So today I installed the Zeus Driver for my 4890 HD (PowerColor) with both files selected:
ATI4800Controller
ATIRadeonX2000
But after a reboot I've just two blue screens (seems it's boots good into OSX) and the brightness is changes.

How can i install the kext and bundle files correctly?

A TimeMachine Backup is working but Starcraft II crashes on startup.

Please help me :/

I just flashed a Powercolor HD 4890 card and had the sluggish mouse problem. Which i was able to fix after applying the 10.6.4 combo update..but that's only because then I overwrote the QE-CI drivers. The mouse was moving fine but when I checked the driver status in Zeus Flashing Tool it said NO to "Quartz Driver Installed"

Is there anyway to install these exotic card QECI drivers without making my mouse get epilepsy.

Thanks in advance.

Try this:

Run the Kext Helper b7, add all other files, put in your Admin Password, run and reboot.

Solved the boot problem with some other kext, but Starcraft still crashes:
"EXC_BAD_ACCESS"

Upgraded to SL and now...

I'm trying to re-flash the card by booting into DOS from a boot disk, but I get the red flashing message, "You have not connected one of your video card power connectors to the power supply. Please refer to the 'getting started guide' for proper hardware installation."
I get the same message if I try to boot into Windows XP via bootcamp.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the help but those kexts didn't fix my epilepsy mouse. It still jumps all over.

The sluggish mouse is the least of my problems though. I bought this card to be able to play better games at better graphics in boot camp. So I installed the ATI drivers in boot camp and tried out some games with everything maxed.

Everything worked out fine for about 15 seconds but then artifacts started to appear and if I kept playing more artifacts game until it was pretty much unplayable.

So I ran ATI Overdrive and put the fan in manual and made it work at 100% all the time. Then the games worked for about 4 minutes or so before the artifacts came. I made a startling discovery...well not so startling but..

The graphics card was at 90 degrees (celsius I'm guessing). So the card overheats like crazy.

My question is...In what slot did you guys put your card? I have mine in the bottom one. Is that the reason it's overheating? Did you guys maybe buy an additional graphics card fan?

Thanks in advance.

Oh man, that's just great. Seems everytime I buy something there's something wrong with it. And that was the last 4890 card they had at any store here in Iceland.

I was hoping that there was just some plastic covering that I forgot to remove from the fan.

Mac Pro Nehalem Quad with XFX 4890 1GB ZSFC Ver 1.6 updated to 10.6.4:

1. Installed Netkas' exotic patch using Zeus Tool
2. QE CI working
3. Dual DVI working

Happy camper here. Thank you to Netkas and Cindori for the excellent work.

[UPDATE] Auto sleep not working. Wake from up sleep gives garbled video but only a moment.

Issues persist

I put computer to sleep by pushing the front button and I get KP.
In system preferences under the displays icon, I detect displays and get KP.

At one point I installed Natit and then deleted Natit.

Still getting the "red lettering" power cord not hooked up right in DOS and Windows XP.

Also, sometimes I get crazy colors on my screen booting into OSX 10.6.4.

Looking for advice.

Thanks
Mike

Sorry you are having so much trouble.

I really advise against the se cards.

Did you say you flashed this with Rom from the Jacobs guide?

I recently let my Macbook try a lovely cabernet I was sampling so no I am posting via my Droid and it is hard to dig through past posts .

If you are using that Rom it is way too fast for much lower spec ZWFC.

Problem flashing a Sapphire New Edition

I got the right (I think) Sapphire 4890 New Edition with Qimonda chips:

Part Number: 288-1E115-D20SA
SKU: On the card: 11150-11. Oddly, on the box it's written 11150-11-20R

I put it in my Mac Pro 1,1 in slot 1 and backed up the Rom in Windows with GPU-Z (.bin file attached)

With the Mac off, I moved it to slot 2, with my ageing (and dying) X1900XT in slot 1

I got the ROM number 1, according to the ROM table gathered by Peloche, and attempted to flash it with Zeus, but got the following message:

Flashing aborted
ROM identical to card
Card not compatible with ROM or Zeus

Any ideas about what it could be? I thought this card was one of the more widely used, so Zeus is certainly compatible with it, right?

Also, on a separate issue, how do I have to power the cards during the flashing process? 1 cable to each? Only to the X1900XT?

Question

Hi all, good day. I am a noob here, just bought my early 2008 version mac pro a few days back. After reading this golden guide and the Ultimate thread, I have following question:

1, MP I got is 2x2.8G Quad-core intel xeon, running Mac OSX 10.6.4, can I used flashed 4890 card on it?

2, Do I need to update the "MacOSX_10.x.x_radeon_hd_48x0_drivers.pkg" driver each time when I update my OSX?

Appreciate your help, thanks

I just tried Winflash, and it says it cannot erase my ROM.

Here's a screenshot of the message I get on Zeus with the X1900XT in slot 1 and the 4890 in slot 2.
