QEMU on Linux does work as it solves the driver issues with virtual hardware. The 2008 Dell XPS runs Mojave fine except for one problem - YouTube stutter. I am not sure if this is due to audio issues but I suspect that it's due to the network. There is a network performance improvement called bridging that's recommended but it's a moderate amount of work to do. Everything else that I do on this system is fine. It would be ideal if I didn't have to run through QEMU but I only got that to work once and haven't been able to replicate that. I will keep working on that system though. I just need this as a reference - if I can get it to work well, then a lot of options open up for used equipment.

I don't know how hard it would actually be I started this thread with my Dell Hackintosh

Actually, the entire TonyMacX86 site made building a hackintosh painless for me. I built my first Hack mini for less than $300, on a Core I3. took no more than an hour. If it weren't for that I wouldn't have gone full in on Macs again.

Nowadays, seeing that it would take more to get MacOS to run on anything AMD, it would be more feasible for me to wait a couple more months and see what they come out in the MBP line with M1/M2.

But as far as Hackintoshes go, tonymacx86 and their build guides can't be beat.

Took me less than 30 minutes to get macOS running on my AMD desktop, laptops are just about impossible.
No drivers available for the iGPU on AMD's.

Which HOWTO or guide did you use? I'm half tempted to try a Ryzen build before I go W10 on it..

Yea, I've been a member there 4-5 years longer than here

For anyone out there close to a Microcenter and thinking about building an Intel Hackintosh:

My current main Hack/Desktop is a Dell Optiplex 7010:

3.4 i7 3770 Quad
16GB DDR3 Crucial Vengeance
Samsung Evo 870 2 TB storage/Time Machine
1TB Rocket Q NVME Boot disk
BCM94360CS2 Bluetooth/Wifi in a NGFF adapter in a PCI adapter
2GB GT 710
10.15.7
Clover 5111

This machine has been fantastic. I dug it out of a dumpster at work. Runs Catalina very well. Although I am not the biggest fan of Catalina I do appreciate that major updates are over and less chance of anything breaking. I am tempted to go the OC route and try Big Sur, but this machine is so stable and is 100% working that I don't want to mess with it.

It's been up and down the last couple days. It will probably be up again soon.

And now they are all Linux machines:

I see that.. I am waiting to get an M1, but when the MacBook Pro screen is 15 inch. 13 inch is too small on my eyes.. right now trying to figure out how to install Linux on my PowerBook G4, but with no real success..

Just an update, but using an Opencore boot loader and the system is flawless.
hi amgff84, I have 2 M93P one with i5 (quad core) and one with i7, I installed Catalina with Gigamaxx perfect drive and pretty much everything works, even sleep, I am in testing and I have tried Opencore but, I am frustrated, or one thing or another does not work, sleep absolutely does not work, wifi works but not bluetooth, it is detected but does not find anything, with clover it works well, I was wondering if I could share the EFI to see if I can get the things working, thanks and good weekend everyone

It is really great when it works but I will admit spending a lot of time on Hacks with only a Virtual Machine to show for it. I really do like the Virtual Machine but it has these problems:

- Slight video lag
- No sound

But I'm typing in it right now.

I'm looking at an 11th Generation Intel iMac instead. It's just a rumor but would be cool if true.
