Got to love how some people on this forum sub section have no ability to objectivly see how anything can be between one extreme or the other. Everything has to be crap or amazing, black or white.....
The HTC one is a great device, its camera isn't as good as the iPhone 5 but it certainly isn't the worst camera in the world and when used in certain scenarios produces better photos than some of its bigger pixel rivals. The macro mode in particular is quite exceptional on the One. Sure in an ideal world a 13mp camera with ultra pixel technology would have been a dream come true, but it isn't and with all devices we have to accept there will be compromises.
Build quality is generally excellent, yes there are some people who have suffered defects but these are far from the majority.
Sense 5 is very smooth and lag free - there is an excellent over-arching design fluidty and consistency throughout the entire OS.
The Stock Music App is arguably one of the best on a smartphone, and audio playback via speakers or headphones is up there with the echelons of sound reproduction.
FM Radio is excellent to have, something most smartphones forget to include.
HTC's software updates for one one this side of the Atlantic and on a carrier handset has been excellent. I received the camera updates and other fixes very quickly. But almost certainly quicker software rollout and finally untying software rollouts fom carriers would benefit everyone, but this apply to all android handsets.
The One is a great phone, its greatness doesn't detract from the S4 or the iPhone 5. Why people have to pigeonhole themselves on 1 device and then automatically attack every other is something I'll never understand but it is still very much prevalent on this forum.

I think my original use of the word rotten to describe to the camera was premature. I should have used inconvenient. The actual pictures are very good, just the lack of resolutions means I don't really have much room to crop. For viewing the fact that's got a 16:9 sensor is great, but again when I need to crop to 4:3/5:4 it means a large reduction.
As for the ones that want the phones to lose the bezels, I'm sure it would look nice on paper, just if you just hit the edge and your screen cracks you won't be as happy.
