I have been going crazy deciding to upgrade to 16GB but ultimately I will not. I do not see that upgrade being worth $200. We will see how Inventor will run on Windows VM, but I think it should do just fine. My school computers have 6GB RAM and I haven't had any issues.

I went crazy for 3 weeks deciding, picked up the new one whilst also looking for 2014 refurbs. New one arrived and same day refurbished ones come on with 512 and 8, plus a saving of £180.

In terms of speed the 2.9 Ghz Geekbenches -
3238
Single-Core Score
7153
Multi-Core Score

I'm happy with that. In the end I'm going to keep it as I like the trackpad and everything about it and forgo the saving on a slower refurb.

Just ordered a 15" Retina Macbook Pro (2014) with dGPU. Didn't want to pass up the chance of getting this with Mavericks OS still installed on it.

I was going to wait for WWDC but with the reason stated above and the potential price increase of the refreshes, I didn't want to take the risk of these going out of stock.

How did you get that high of a score? I got a 6500 on mine but I ran Geekbench in 32 bit.

Noticed all the refubr'd 13" retina's "July 2014" on our regional apple store are showing Yosemite Installed. No more mavericks retinas? Please say it ain't so!

Update

Today there was an update suggested for my 2015 13' rMBP. i didn't have time to read the specifics but it added the photo app and DAMN this mac is running WAY better than it was before the update. (not that it was terrible but it is so zippy now)

Anyone else do this and see a significant performance increase?

Finally for the early 2015 13 MacBook Pro Retina / 256gb. Very pleased with it and got Windows running from an external usb drive to save the internal drive for just OS x in less than an hour. Was easier to sort than in my late 2012 / early 2013 iMac.

Got 15% off too which was nice.

15% off from where and how?

How did you get Windows running from an external USB drive. I thought Windows could only be run from a partition on an internal drive. Is it straight forward to set up and which version of Windows are you using.

I'm in the UK and in the Royal Air Force and registered as a student so there was multiple ways to do it.

okay cool! congrats.

i just bought my wife a rMBP 2015. Model MF840LL/A from best buy. now going to unpack it :D i am excited

I received a new BTO 2015 13" 2.9GHz i5,8GB/1TB MBP this past Friday afternoon. Set it up that evening and have been using it since. Very, very pleased especially with the screen, but also with the trackpad. :D

Right now I'm waiting for a possible 21.5-ish retina iMac to cover desktop use, but if that doesn't come through a Broadwell 15" MBP is under consideration.

It's really, really easy. You just need a Wndows box or virtual machine. A usb 3.0 harddisk (probably works with thunderbolt too), Windows 8.1 or 10 preview and wintousb to make the volume and copy install files. Remember to download the boot camp drivers using the assistant. your Mac needs to support EFI booting.

New rMBP 15" 2.8GHz, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, GeForce GT750

Had a good deal on my maxed mid 2012 MBP 15" & I got this puppy with my student discount for £2227 (full price was £2828)

Seems like I got the LG screen, but so far it's perfect... got rid of Yosemite and restored Mavericks from Time machine - feels and smells like Christmas came early this year :D

I'm finally using my refurb Mac! Love it!

I turned the firewall on (as it was set to off). Is that all I need to do?

I was happy to see that the battery count was only at 1 when I received it. I've only been plugging it in when it gets below 20%. Is that ok? I've had it 1 week and the battery count is at 4 now.

Thanks for that. I may look into doing that.

Recently went to the US and bought a 2015 13" rMBP, 8gb RAM, 256Gb SSD to replace my 2013 11" MBA. Bought it mainly for the screen as I was getting a little sick of the MBA display and smaller screen real-estate.

Just came in here to share my experience.

Back in 08 bought the unibody macbook pro the day it came out. I was in love with the thing. Sleek, made of high quality materials, looked sharp, and at the time performed really well for what it was.

I sold it a while later and tried to go iPad only as my uses dwindled. iPad alone didn't really cut it, but I'll admit that I was able to do most of what I needed to do include create a resume, watch netflix, all that.

Then I started studying graphic design. Needed a computer so picked up a 10 white unibody macbook for $400 back in 2011. It was great for a while. I did some upgrades like 8 gb ram and 750gb HDD to keep up.

Been working with design and now studying computer programming, need more processing power and got kinda tired of having an external monitor. So got a used 27 imac about 3 months ago for a great price. It was great for what it was, but I missed portability, but still needed power.

I thought I would wait until WWDC (or whenever) for new macbook pros and then I would just buy a 15 pro refurb from Apple at a good discount. However, I found a almost completely new 15 2.5ghz/512gb/16gb/750m for $1700 that was flawless, less than 30 cycles, and has 9 months applecare, so I bit the bullet.

Man, I cannot even lie, this is an impressive machine all around. It has incredible power and for what it is, I think it is pretty lightweight. The design is very sleek and a massive improvement over any of the macbooks I have had previously. The retina display alone is very much worth upgrading for. The 750m packs a reasonable enough punch for my usage so far. Luckily don't game to intensely for now.

Now I am sort of on the path of completing the portable desktop rig. Waiting for a good deal on a dell p2715q, gonna find a thunderbolt dock I like for convenience), and settle down for a while.

This thing feels like a machine that will last me about 5 years of usage. I will probably upgrade before then, but it seems like these computers are ones that won't become outdated as quickly as the earlier macbook pro models have, and even then they were still great machines for many years.

In any event, that's my macbook experience and upgrade path. I can honestly say I am so fully satisfied that I am not tempted in the slightest by a potential refresh in the coming future. (I may reconsider for a Space Gray version.....)

Yeah I agree with you on that one. While I loved the portability of the air and the form factor, especially when it was released, the display quality quickly became not so great at all once the retina macbooks it the scene particularly with the intro of the 13 inch version.

I suppose that's what the new RMB is all about right now. Think we can kiss the macbook air goodbye from apples lineup.

I just replaced my dying white 2007 Macbook with a near-mint 2008 unibody MacBook I found on Craigslist. I popped my existing SSD into it and loaded it up with Yosemite and it runs smoothly and quickly! It's still got lots of useful life left in it!

It's much faster that I expected it to be! I also like the smaller size. I might even consider taking with me when I go on vacation!

Good find on you rMBP btw!

Yeah I was thrilled to get it at the price that I did. Honeslty, those macbooks are pretty capable machines for what they are. I never did an SSD upgrade, but I am sure that thing flies now for you. That's what I absolutely love about macs is that they will last quite a while. They are incredibly durable machines too.

Just got myself a mbpr. So far loving this thing. Just curious and something I did not notice in the store, does the bottom cover have a small amount of flex to it. It's not exssesive but I can feel a very small amount kind of like there is a "hollow" spot and at times it makes a very small creaking noise similar to a plastic laptop.

Hi all

Just had delivered an early 2015 13 inch rMBP, 3.1ghz, 16gb Ram, and 512gb SSD from EBay, has only had 9 battery cycles so still ha stage new laptop smell!!

This is replacing a 2012 15 inch retina pro,

Very impressed with it so far, it will primarily be used for Lightroom and image processing, I had a quick go and it had no problem processing some large files. One of the main reasons to purchase it was the ability to plug in 4K at 60hz. I plugged in my Dell p2715q, it worked like a charm, even with some high resolution photos, I couldn't detect any lag with I was pleased about, it was getting warm though.

Certainly looking forward to using this more!
