16-inch MacBook Pro — Space Grey
With the following configuration:
2.3GHz 8‑core ninth‑generation Intel Core i9 processor with Turbo Boost up to 4.8GHz
64GB of 2666MHz DDR4 memory
AMD Radeon Pro 5500M with 8GB of GDDR6 memory
1TB of SSD storage

Delivery on the 26th.
I use VMs for labs and whatnot hence the large amount of RAM. Went for the more RAM in the GPU since it was only $140.
Thinking I should go the 2TB too but it’s another $600 which really blows out my budget for this. Have an external T5 but don’t want to end up having to carry that 24x7 in 5 yrs time if I completely fill the internal. Right now I’d probably only fill 400GB of the internal. Thoughts?

Local App Store here in Canada has received their shipment and will have them on display tomorrow. Going to take a look for sure, was told they also have plenty of 2.4/32gb/8gb/2tb machines. Guy I talked with said he
cannot imagine selling too many of those!

I ordered a MacBook Pro 16" to replace my 2018 15", mostly due to the new keyboard, but that I also want better graphics performance.

  • 2.6GHz 6‑core 9th‑generation Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.5GHz
  • 16GB 2666MHz DDR4 memory
  • AMD Radeon Pro 5500M with 4GB of GDDR6 memory
  • 512GB SSD storage
  • 16-inch Retina display with True Tone
  • Four Thunderbolt 3 ports
  • Touch Bar and Touch ID
  • Backlit Keyboard - Norwegian
  • Space Gray
Estimated delivery is between 9th and 11th of December to me in Norway.

My daily use is usually quite light, with writing, browsing, listening to music and social media's, but I also do lighter photo editing with adjusting exposure, contrast, colors, cropping and removing unwanted items from pictures i needed, where I batch process and export 30-50 pictures in one go, about once a month or so, plus some occasionally video edits of smaller videos, usually below 10 minutes, so the GPU upgrade could be nice for that purpose. I didn't see the need for upgrading RAM, as I'm not close to push limits at all with my use, I average around 60%, the only way I would push the limits was if I did all my light use, and added both photo editing and video editing at the same time, something I don't do, it's either photo editing or video editing, and those aren't that often to justify spending those $485 the upgrade is here, and my use have been relatively stable over the last 4-5 years. I would also be interested in trying Cities Skylines on this setup though.

I'm using my setup a lot docked with a OWC Thunderbolt 3 dock, LG Ultrafine 4K monitor (latest version), plus external keyboard and trackpad, but also on the go.

I ordered a MacBook Pro 16" i9 2,3, 5500 8GB, 32GB, 1TB just minutes after the store re-opened. The delivery date was estimated from dec. 3-5. Yesterday I was Charged, and now it's "preparing for shipment". I guess I will receive it a lot sooner than first estimated? (Norway)

I would estimate sooner, I had a package from Apple that was sent from China in October, and I'm pretty sure these Mac's are sent from China as well, it came 1,5 weeks earlier than estimated by Apple, used 6 days from shipped to delivered (TNT and Posten). I expect my delivery to come early as well, just don't know how much earlier.

How many VMs do you generally run simultaneously? Me personally I would drop it to 32GB and then bump the SSD to 2 TB for the exact reason you said, you don’t want to have to worry about external storage.

5 or 6 machines with 4-8gb ram
normally would do this on a desktop dedicsted with 32gb which is exhausted. Then I use a laptop with 16gb for the everyday which also gets exhausted.

think I’m going for 64gb and 2tb now

thoughts on 2.3 vs 2.4 i9 ?

I have Nov 26-29, but my card was charged and with Express shipping, I think I have a good chance of getting it by the end of this week.
