Well, I personally do not like the notch or the rest of the X design. I find it all to be ugly, slippery and quite off-putting. So I prefer my iPhone SE and even my 8 Plus over all of the X phones. I never had any intention of ever buying a phone with the hideous notch or the weird aspect ratios.

To each his own though, I'm sure a lot of people love the X phones. More power to them, but I won't buy one.

It’s not about being the only one, it’s about whether it makes financial sense to Apple I suppose. As long as there are 200 million other people who want the same as you, it’s probably only a matter of time.

If I had to guess, 80% of people complaining about the SE's departure would be okay with the XS if they tried. It's a big screen but it's not that big of a device.

Where I understand is there really isn't a small device at a decent price. I guess the 7

apple is targeting the chinese market, so they would rather produce larger than smaller phones. the fact that you are complaining, to some extent, shows that you are entrenched in their ecosystem. those Chinese arent.

Try it first. That’s my advice. You may get an SE 2 one day, but it seems like a waste of time and resources for Apple. It’s actually worse for developers too.

and i agree with these people. my girlfriend swore against the bigger form factor too, but now she loves her iphone 7 so much

I’m not complaining about anything!

haha dont get me wrong. im not saying that you are, probably more like adding on to your comment. you need a really huge demand (larger than the huge chinese market maybe?) for apple to take you seriously.

Yea I don’t really see .7 inches as enough to ruin an experience.

You can please some of the people some of the time...

Apple will never be able to offer enough phones to please everyone, so they put their resources into what most of the market seems to want, which is larger phones. Well, except for the times when they stubbornly tell the market what it wants, like no expandable storage, or headphone jack, etc.

The mods really really need to consolidate these “l want a new SE2” threads.

A new thread is not going to get Apple to move, only money will and the cost of redesigning a new circuit board with updated components have been weighed by Apple and they decide to pass. If they could make money with a new SE2, you can bet Apple would do it in a second.

Just pick up a couple SEs now as backup. That's what I did. Even if they did make an SE2, it would be no good because they would add a pukenotch and remove the headphone jack. Smartphone tech plateaued ~3-4 years ago, so a current SE should be fine indefinitely.

They would be ok with the 7 or 8, I doubt very much most SE users would be comfortable spending a grand on an iPhone! Because of how much the SE would have cost them.

I think it’s evident that apple might be out of the small iOS device game. iPads are going larger with Face ID. iPad mini hasn’t been touched in years. I think SE and ipad minis are done.

Yeah they also discontinued the macbook air. They're into big now, and since Steve Jobs died they abandoned ergonomics as a design parameter.

i know Jobs once voiced his support for the smaller iphone, but that doesnt mean it should be quoted forever, especially since there is no way for him to change that view anymore.

ergonomically, the macbook air is not any superior to the other macbooks. technology advancements has since made macbook air kinda obsolete. e.g. the new macbook pro is of the same weight as the macbook air and it run noiseless if you are not doing pro work. i suppose the sole reason macbook air is popular is because of its price.

likewise with the iphone. previously, the iphone was more of a phone, and the ipad was designed to consume content and play games. however, most people consume content with their phone today. there are many reasons for that, which i wont go into detail, so much so that apple has to go with the flow. as a result, the screen grows bigger, to improve the experience. it certainly seems like the iphone is slowly replacing the ipad, except for things like educational or work purposes.

lastly, apple is targeting the premium consumer market. since they could command that premium, it makes absolute financial sense (until it doesnt) because they cannot produce enough phones to fulfil the entire market's demand. so if you hate the new iphones, it is because you are not the customers apple is looking at.

ergonomically,

the iphone.

The current iphones are archetypally non-ergonomic. They're sort of a perfect demonstration of industrial design that ignores ergonomics. They're too big to hold in one hand and designed to be easy to drop. You literally could not make the design less ergonomic unless you just arbitrarily attached a large weight to it and put a sharp spike where the palm rests.

That doesn't mean they're bad. Most things have non-ergonomic designs. It's just noteworthy that Apple has eliminated that style from their designs.

For now, the SE doesn’t have a future with Apple. I really do understand the passion for this 4 inch iPhone (I owned one) and how comfortable it is to carry and hold, but I think Apple discontinuing it made it clear for two reasons:

1) It likely wasn’t producing enough money, or it was just a limited time release that they had intentions of discontinuing it long before the September Keynote.

2) Developer Support was likely another consideration.

I wouldn't go that far. It's pretty impressive how much faster iPhones are still getting. And any device is going to be RAM constrained eventually, if you want to keep up with the latest software which, for security reasons alone, you're pretty much forced to. I'm guessing we'll be good with the SE for a few more years, but I really hope Apple will come up with a (spiritual) successor at some point.

I agree that Apple should have a small/lightweight/portable phone. With that said, try the iPhone 7/8... you’ll like it.
