Does Apple ever release separate builds labeled just as GM or would it be labeled the next sequential beta number?
Typically if they release a GM. its just the same build as the release. Just a day or so earlier than the official pubic release. They have also noted it as such in the dev center with a "GM" at times but not sure its always that way.

It will launch today.

Source: My buddy works for Apple. SW release dates follow HW release dates, when there is one.
[doublepost=1490281359][/doublepost]

It will ship with the same build as Beta 7, which is GM for 10.3

I said GM tomorrow, the day HW released. Haven't wavered from that.

The development team chooses beta and GM release, because it's not meant for public use and they know best regarding SW testing. Can't comment on public.

Yes you have wavered from that. Your original post said final today and Beta 7 was the GM. I have quoted it now 3 times to prove it.

I don't know why they're delaying the release as it seems to be stable enough to be released... :(

Because watchOS and macOS are still in beta. They all get released at the same time. Its also changing the file system which could have huge consequences if something is wrong.

Not disagreeing with you. More betas and more time the better. One little thing could lead to a catastrophe.
My simple question- would they have stopped bug fixing after beta 7? In other words, any version released tomorrow or monday would be better thatn beta 7 or not?

Not necessarily. If they are treating it like a X.0 release, there is usually a 2-3 week gap between the final beta and GM. Then there is a huge build number jump. 10.0 Beta 8 to GM was like a 60 point build number jump.

10.0 Beta 8: 14A5346a
10.0.1 GM: 14A403

So it went from 14A346 to 14A403. 57 points?

I told- there are serious issues in beta 7.

There could be "serious issues" if everyone's facing them not only one person. You should try reseting it via iTunes.

It seems very illogical to release the new iPhone and iPad tomorrow with 10.2.1. If that's the case - they could've wait one more week and relesed it next Friday.
As they introduced the new products along with the new video app which will be capable with iOS 10.3, I doubt they'll release the new iPhone and iPad if they don't support the new app out of the box.

What's more, I don't think that the Apple File System is a concern, as iOS 10.3 is in beta for more than two months. One day won't make any difference.

I'm not arguing with anyone, I'm just expressing my point of view.

Illogical to release current software on current hardware? That makes zero sense. There is nothing special about this hardware that requires new software. Even when iPads were released in Spring of 2011/2012/2013, they didn't ship with new software. A software update came a week or two later.

I dont care when they release the final as long as its ready to go and people dont have issues. I want a polished release, not a rushed one.

Completely agree. I have had enough problems with software updates in the past when where I have lost health data. New file system is not something to rush. Even 2 months of testing isn't that long, considering they take 3 months on X.0 releases.

It's illogical to release it with a current software if an update is coming a few days affer.

No, because as I mentioned earlier in this thread. When that hardware was built 2-3 weeks ago, they were on beta 4 or 5. Therefore the software would not have been ready to been installed on the devices then. Yes typically Apple is 2-3 builds ahead internally, but not when the OS is changing this much. Look at the size of the beta updates, they have been over 400MB, typically a beta update is 100-250MB max.

Isn't it related to the new file system? Every 10.3 beta update seems to be around 400 MB.
macOS's updates are around 2 GB even if they're are minor.

Nevermind. As atlchamp said, they'd better release the updates when they're polished and fully ready.

Hey, I don't want to have to change the thread title to "The iOS 10.x.x Bickering Thread". Let's all dial it back a little. At the end of the day, its not a big deal when it really gets released.

I would not take that bet. Everything released on Tuesday is based on "old hardware". Even the iPhone SE could be released with 10.2.1 . The only specialis the colour of the iPhone 7(+).

If there was completely new hardware released last Tuesday, I would agree.

No, you can't say components are the same if CPU is old. Devices have many components, CPU is same, but some of the hardwares like BT modem, WiFi modem etc. may be new component. Every component needs drivers to run, so iOS 10.3 is NECESSARY for the new iPad. But the only thing changed for RED iPhone 7 is probably color.

For clarification, I have tried everything including restore as new from itunes- problem remains thus concluding it is a bug not a corrupt installation.
As far as the issue of problems with a majority is concerned, please keep in mind that if all the problems are ever sorted out in any build then there would not be a need for any new build.
