Perhaps, but there is nothing quite like the amount of trolls stalking the iPad forums ready to piss on anyone who dares mention anything positive about the iPad.I actively avoid the iPhone forums year round. That's where the trolls and know-it-alls spend most of their time.
True. Those drive me nuts as well.Perhaps, but there is nothing quite like the amount of trolls stalking the iPad forums ready to piss on anyone who dares mention anything positive about the iPad.
Well, with the small developmental progress of iPadOS one can contribute to a lot of topics, can’t one? iPadOS 15 till 17 are not that different. Obviously there are additions and changes, but IMHO the greater part of the functionality (or issues 🙃) is still the same. YMMV.Both on the iPhone and iPad forums, people basically only discuss the latest devices, so I can’t contribute to the vast majority of discussions. People also mostly use the latest iOS versions, which I never have.
Checking the forums of those iPadOS versions, there isn’t much I can contribute to. This forum is geared towards the latest of everything. If you don’t have it, there aren’t many topics you can contribute to. If you try to start discussions about older devices, you won’t get many replies. It’s too latest-centric. I’m not complaining, it’s just an observation. I’ve practically vanished from the iPhone subforum.Well, with the small developmental progress of iPadOS one can contribute to a lot of topics, can’t one? iPadOS 15 till 17 are not that different. My iPhone is what I consider my 21st Century Swiss Army knife. It's not always the best tool for what I'm doing, but when I'm away from my desk it's almost always the tool in my pocket or within arm's reach somewhere and it gets the job done eventually.iPads are better than iPhones. My 11” iPad gets way more use than my 14 pro.
To tide you over, install an ad block like Wipr and get a BT speaker. I have a six year old UE Boom which sounds better than my 13" iPadPro's speakers.Still rocking a 2017 base iPad and dying for the new Air to come out and upgrade. The speakers on this one broke 1.5 years in and it made no $ sense to fix or replace. Without an ad blocker in use, surfing in Safari turns it into a paperweight but it soldiers on for daily use. Basically iPad at home, iPhone SE2 when I leave. An exception is traveling, the iPad is heavily used on planes and in hotels.
I don’t need to upgrade to an Air, but I want to. If the new one indeed comes with an M2 then I should be able to run that for 6-7 years or so, barring a real malfunction.
Should be out within 6 months before April 2024.I don’t need to upgrade to an Air, but I want to. If the new one indeed comes with an M2 then I should be able to run that for 6-7 years or so, barring a real malfunction.
Unfortunately the complaints wont stop. They'll just pivot to complaints about how their iPad doesn't give them the same performance as the MacBooks due to heat throttling. Is it more toxic than the "laptop replacement" and what constitute a "pro" device? Especially toxic when iPad news are posted at the main home page rather than the subforum. You all know which type of comments a 14/16 inch OLED (or miniLED) iPad with a M3 and 24 GB RAM, 4GB SSD would get. Hopefully, Apple gives us dual boot to close the mouths of the worst commenters that often displays a mixture of arrogance, envy and complete lack of understanding.

I found at least one user who decided to keep using the older version of iOS, iPadOS, older devices, or maybe forced to do so...Checking the forums of those iPadOS versions, there isn’t much I can contribute to. Like I said, the iPad forum is a little better at that, but not perfect. Latest iPadOS versions discussions gravitate towards performance and battery life (to which I can only contribute cumulative observations of other people’s posts), or specific latest version features or issues (which I don’t have and I don’t know about).
On Macs, you have subforums for older devices. Not here. I use: an iPhone Xʀ on iOS 12, an iPhone 6s on iOS 10, a 9.7-inch iPad Pro on iOS 12, and an iPad Air 5 on iPadOS 15. A quick browse through the iPhone, iPad, and iOS versions subforums will show you there isn’t much I can say.
Oh, been doing both for years. I look forward to not having to pack a BT speaker someday. I don’t need great sound in hotel rooms, but I like quiet tunes and white noise at night. To tide you over, install an ad block like Wipr and get a BT speaker. Man, that »What's a Computer?« ad really brought out the worst in people. Is it more toxic than the "laptop replacement" and what constitute a "pro" device? Change really touches a nerve for some, especially the old guard of Mac users. I'm not sure why, because Apple has course corrected with the Mac in a big way and proven they're still willing to dump massive amounts of R&D into improving it more and more by way of Apple Silicon.Man, that »What's a Computer?« ad really brought out the worst in people.
I have to admit, since May this year when I purchased a mini 6, I use my iPad 95% more than my 14PM. That’ll all probably change for a few weeks when I get my 15PM on Friday. I love how easily it is to transport my mini 6 everywhere, and how bigger the screen is compared to my 14PM.iPads are better than iPhones. My 11” iPad gets way more use than my 14 pro.
I would love a mini for books etc, just so expensive here. AU, bit hard to justify to when I already have a 11" M1.I have to admit, since May this year when I purchased a mini 6, I use my iPad 95% more than my 14PM.
