I would love a mini for books etc, just so expensive here. AU, bit hard to justify to when I already have a 11" M1.
I read all of my kindle books on my mini 6 and pretty browse social media on my mini 6. I’m so happy with it I don’t see myself upgrading to the Mini 7, whenever it’s released. Yes if the mini 6 is expensive in your country, it’s probably better to have paid for the 11 M1.

This is completely true, and I’d like to add an unrelated fact: my only qualm with this forum is that as a person who mainly uses iOS devices, this forum is pointless if you don’t have the latest device. Both on the iPhone and iPad forums, people basically only discuss the latest devices, so I can’t contribute to the vast majority of discussions. People also mostly use the latest iOS versions, which I never have.

The iPad forum is far better at discussing a wider (not wide, just wider) range of iPads. The iPhone forum is the latest or nothing. The iOS versions forum is the latest or nothing. I have an iPhone Xʀ on iOS 12, I don’t have anything to say about 99.9% of forum threads.
To be fair, I think this is true of any tech forum which isn’t explicitly retro-oriented. I am still on my 3rd gen Air but I’m not bothered by the fact there aren’t really threads geared towards me - what would they even be about? Other than tech issues with older hardware I guess. New software and peripherals aren‘t geared towards me, nobody is looking to buy my device - the buzz moves forward with the industry.

Of course, I like tinkering with old machines so I spend time on those forums and that’s a very different story. It’s a great equalizer when everyone has an outdated POS they are trying to keep on the road and find new uses for.

Change really touches a nerve for some, especially the old guard of Mac users. I'm not sure why, because Apple has course corrected with the Mac in a big way and proven they're still willing to dump massive amounts of R&D into improving it more and more by way of Apple Silicon.
We have seen this reaction before: From command based prompt to GUI in Mac and later Windows. Reactions were very similar. Coming from mainframes and DOS, my first reaction when seeing a Mac was: is this a real computer or a toy?

Ironically, the prompt still lives, the Mac/windows lives, the mainframes/cloud lives, and all coexist nicely with iPhones and iPads and soon with Vision pro like devices.

2023 is definitely shaping up to be a boring year for iPads as was expected. We might not even see a new Air.

Next year could be interesting with the new pro’s, maybe also some updates to the pencil and keyboard.

This is all completely true, but it still makes it a bit pointless. I haven’t read the iPhone forum in years at this point.

The iPad forum discusses experiences with older devices far more frequently.

I wouldn’t call outdated devices garbage - my iPhone Xʀ on iOS 12 is as fast as any iPhone that came after it, and has nothing to envy in terms of battery life. In fact, barring the camera, I’m not missing much.

Why do you stick with iOS 12? The XR comes with the A12 which gives you live text. I found it very very useful.
A12 is still very good iPadOS16 runs very well with my air 3.

At the very least upgrade to the iOS version with Security Updates still being maintained.

Sorry, I was being unnecessarily glib by saying "POS" - I have many hobbies involving old things and some friends who think I'm insane because of it, so I look at these things with a little self-deprecating humor is all

I won’t stand for this un-MacRumors positivity.

The iPad Pro will never be truly PRO until it can shoot holograms out of the speaker grills and generate an anti-gravity vortex, but Big Tim keeps holding back the iPad.

My apologies!

It’s totally fine! We can like older things sometimes! In fact, I’d probably downgrade everything to iOS 6 if I could, I love that design.

It's mid September. I find it hard to believe Apple won't release or update any products for the next 95+ days (through year end).
