Photography is part of our daily lives. Smartphone gave us that capability. The best camera is always the one that is with you.

Nokia just announced the Nokia Lumia 1020 with 41 megapixels, Carl Zeiss technology with 6 physical lenses.

The iPhone camera is not perfect. And it's not shockingly amazing or innovative either. Why can't Apple deliver similar - or even better cameras? It's clear that Apple's (And Samsung's, and almost every other smartphone out there) has poor image quality.

It's no longer an opinion to say that Nokia Lumia's camera is superior - it is a fact. Apple needs to step up and beat the Nokia Lumia.

In my opinion, most people who take photos with a phone are just casual photographers who want the ease of use and accessibility to the camera. They aren't professionals seeking the latest and best equipment. If they were, they wouldn't be using a phone to shoot.

I think the typical users are taking pics of their friends, things happening around them, candid shots, events, etc. to share with friends, post on FB, share on Twitter or Instagram, etc. and are apparently quite happy with the results without having monster spec cameras in their phones.

I took an Alaskan cruise with no other camera besides my iPhone 5. I took over 800 pictures and 50 videos and was very pleased with the results. I have no issues with the iPhone camera.

I wouldn't turn down a better camera in my iPhone, but I am not dissatisfied and running out to get a Nokia or anything else because of it either.

I don't know what you're talking about, the iPhone 5 has a great camera. The Lumia powerhouses are bulky and fat.

And the iP5 is thin and bends.

The Lumia is more of a camera that can make phone calls rather than a phone that can take pictures. It's clear that they didn't set out to make a super thin phone just to say they have the thinnest phone and sacrifice other things. They designed a very good, thin camera and gave it the ability to make calls.

The two are different creatures. Lumia was built around the camera, to be a good camera.

I would love to see a iPhone with a fantastic camera but I don't see it happening. In fact, I don't see many phones going the super camera direction. The iP camera is good, but not great. I would love to see better low light ability and a good zoom but thin thin thin doesn't lend itself well to adding stuff like that.

This subject comes up all the time on this board and the thread starters have to be taught that its not just the pixels. The Sensors have a great deal to do with it as well. And I don't want a smartphone with a big bulky lens on it either.

Why? Give us some supporting arguments. The Lumia's a niche product. Why does Apple need to compete with it? How much in sales are they losing to it? Why would imitating the Lumia improve Apple's marketshare? What's the demand for the Lumia's features like?

Otherwise your argument is just the usual forum armchair industry analysis -- the old "X must copy Y to remain competitive that gets endlessly repeated about every company out there.

You do understand what megapixels are dont you? The more you have then basically the bigger the image.

My super pro DSLR (yes, I am a photographer). shoots at 22mp. Are you telling me that the Lumia is better because it has more? No, the problem with the Lumia is that to fit that many MP onto a small sensor they have to be small pixels. Small is not very good, especially in low light.

If the technology was that good, why dont they include it on all the other Lumia phones in their lineup?

Heres a shocking bit of info that I know will cause many here to curse me as the devil.... Ready???? Your camera phone.... is never going to be as good as a pro DSLR... OMG I SAID IT!! Its good for taking on holiday and snapping pictures of your penis to send to your lady friend.

Yes but Carl Zeis also make ****** cheap lenses too. I've had quite a few Lumia phones with 'carl zeis' lenses and the results have been atrocious. From the N9 (meego), Lumia 800 & Lumia 820. All make the HTC One's camera look like a hasselblad ......

1 - Oversampling via pixel binning
2 - Being able to digitally zoom without losing image data (as opposed to what most phonecams do, which is zoom directly into the image and anti-alias the hell out of it, giving you a blurry mess)

It's hard to say that when the iPhone camera is on you damn near 24/7. There are lots of chances and moments to capture pics that would be lost otherwise.

I agree with this totally, and gotta say, when I had a iPhone 4S and 5 I was very pleased with the camera.

Haven't tried the pureview, but of the ones I have N9, 800 and 820 I have been bitterly disappointed, that I have lost trust in both Nokia & Carl Zeiss branding.

On the other hand every iPhone has seen a decent leap in camera Peformance which has always made it one of the best of that year, I have no doubt the 5S will do the same.
