2 - Being able to digitally zoom without losing image data (as opposed to what most phonecams do, which is zoom directly into the image and anti-alias the hell out of it, giving you a blurry mess)

That right there is the best argument for more megapixels.

heck I'm still pretty pleased with my 4S camera.

True but when you do use the zoom, you still sacrifice image quality due to no 'oversampling' taking place. Got to wonder how good the image quality would have been on the 808 or 1020 if megapixels had been limited to 8 megapixels. Is 41megapixels plus oversampling down to 8megapixels better than 8 megapixels but larger pixels? Guess we'll never know.
Think I've written 'megapixels' too many times.

Yeah, I'm not sure. Heck, I still prefer the look of film.

Yeah you can't beat the old 35mm! Not that you can compare film and digital like for like, but I read somewhere that in terms of resolution, 35mm is roughly equivalent to 30+megapixels :)
