Absolutely ridicoulous

I am so fed up with Apple!
17 hours to download a software update?
COME ON! I thought this new data center in NC would prevent things like this from happening! What a nightmare, get it the ****** together Apple!

10th time was the charm

For what it is worth, mine finally went through.
The last 9 times didn't include the download of the actual update of course, and the failures were always when it was restoring...and when that did work, it was restoring (or whatever the heck it was doing) for a few hours. Then itunes disappeared, when I restarted it, it told me my IPAD 2 was up to date, and IOS 5 is now on my ipad.

Good luck to all.

Getting tired of those people who have no patience. Please be note that Apple does not have to update there whole update servers just to let people update in 1 day. The servers usage will eventually getting lower and you will eventually can update the iPhone. Though, I admit Apple should not give an ambiguous error like that.

Stop complain about apple as your complain doesn't make any sense economically.

And for those people who have slow downloading speed, stop complain too because that's your problem, not Apple. if you want to get it quickly then get a direct link to the IPSW file provide you know your iphone and how the naming convention of apple to the ipsw file. get it and put it on your download manager.

----------

Mine say's verifying with itunes(It's been 2 hours like this). What should I do?

Just close itune and try it again.

Hm, I've been able to update to iOS 5 now but none of my non-Apple apps start ... !? Anyone got an idea why or how to solve this? Thank you!

(update: hm, now they seem to work again ... I've connected the iPhone again to iTunes and did a sync on the apps?)

I was having the same problem earlier. I tried like 10+ times to update and then I had to go out for a lecture. I came home 2 hours later and it updated quickly. My suggestion for people who are still having problems is to go out/ sleep/ do something else for a few hours and come back later and try again. The update isn't going away anytime soon so don't stress over it.

Decided to take the plunge a little while ago. Upgraded to OS 10.7.2 in a few minutes without a problem. Backed-up my iPad 2 to my new iMac (it had been previously set up with a now defunct PowerBook), and ...

The iOS 5 software downloaded in twelve minutes and within a further eight minutes my iPad was ready to go.

I assume that it must be the middle of the night over there and the demand on Apple's servers must be reduced.

Good luck to all of you trying to reach the Promised Land.

This update has been a disaster, It took me over 2 gb's just to download this update. What happens when someone is on a crap internet provider with a cap? they would be screwed.

Download mac update, iPhoto update, iTunes update etc just goes on and on just to update a simple phone.

@me email not working, cannot report any errors on the iCloud website (just reloads itself), lost apps, lost contacts, cannot seem to upload old photos etc'

Hope everything sorts itself out, however this update itself is amazing!! like a brand new phone :D

Well...

iPhone 4 is all up and running beautifully.....

iPad lost all apps and media after a full on factory reset....

But then I realized.. hey I now have the cloud, so I have sat at work this morning downloading my apps from the cloud....

Stanza lost all my books as did comic zeal..

However I can put my books back in stanza via dropbox and goodreader, so no real problem... I can put my comics back in comiczeal via comizeal sync....

My music will have to be synched via iTunes via a tethered connection on USB later today.... however, as I set the iPad up as a new iPad after a factory reset, the itunes will not remember that it is the same iPad that it has been syncing to in the past...... so I am hoping this will not be an issue when syncing my music.

I could just purchase itunes match and take everything i have from the cloud, but to do that i would have to upgrade to Lion first of all and then pay the 25€ for iTunes match.....

Overall a bit a of a cock up.... but it was theraputic in the end to have clean devices on which to start again.

I did set up my iCloud accounts and have a new .me.com email... and am in the process of telling all my contacts that this will be my go to email in the future.

Anyone still having issues? I opted against updating my iphone and ipad 2 last night because of all the issues. I downloaded the software so it's just a matter of updating later today. Is it going smoothly now? I was having issues with the backup taking forever last night prior to updating.

I assume with no recent posts of restore issues people are getting this done okay? I had this restore failure multiple times yesterday and decided to back off before I killed my iPad and iPhone.

All's well, everyone? I'm freaking nervous to try again and my bro is calling me a punk. Ha! :p

Is anyone still receiving this message when they restore their iPhone?

I just bought a new AT&T 4S as device only yesterday. When I plug it in to iTunes everything seems fine but when I try to restore, it gives me the message "the iPhone could not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build." I put the phone in DFU mode but I still get the same message. There isn't anything helpful on Apple's website either.

Did you ever have a pre-release of iOS 5 on your machine? I'm guessing the version of iOS 5 stored in your iTunes is an expired beta.
