Well I owned the X and now I have the Xs max and the max is significantly better than my old X.
absolutely agree!

Then seek your answers from other than me as you refuse to listen or do a bit of homework on even the basics of digital photography.
You are lucky that Apple puts enough tech in their devices where you do not need to know anything.
For me the XS has been brighter and clearer for low light photos. I did a lot of side by sides when I first got it because that was basically the only difference with the upgrade. There were only a few pictures that looked darker on the XS and those were images in bright daylight where the sun was reflecting off something. The XS photo was darker and you could see much more detail. The X photo was brighter but completely blew out the image and lost a lot of details.
Wow you're right iPhone X produces better images overall than XS....pleasantly surprised since I didn't upgrade this year to the XS, XS Max, XR bs...thank goodness for my iPhone X love it
I just wish someone would explain a couple questions to me:
When I take a low light photo, and it comes out dark, how on earth would that under any circumstance be better than if it came out brighter?
You can see the photo better in low light and the stuff in the photo if it is brighter am I right or wrong?
[doublepost=1544131984][/doublepost]Sure there might be some other issues. Maybe more noise and artifacts, whatever that means(?) but like who cares if you can’t see the dang thing anyway what difference does noise and all that stuff make?
[doublepost=1544134685][/doublepost]Found ANOTHER video showing that the iPhone X is brighter in low light.
I feel like the XS is definitely cleaner but I prefer a brighter image so I can see things in the image better.
[doublepost=1544134840][/doublepost]Let give you an example from the video why brightness matters.
In the video I can see the letters “NZXT” on the computer MUCH BETTER than on the XS.
This is bc it’s a brighter image. That matters.
Not watching the video because, well I really don’t care, however just on the pic itself, the XS shows much more detail in the sky for example (separate sky and clouds).
Didn’t say it was night.
Bottom line. “Good” regarding a picture is 100% subjective.
If YOU don’t like the pics (low light, good light, videos, etc. whatever) on the XS/XS Max then get rid of it and keep the X.
Simple as.
Good, then stop worrying about the XS/XS Max and simply move on with life. Go take some pics on a walkabout or something. Whatever puts the smile on your face![]()

I don’t want to say that they’re BETTER, but they do seem BRIGHTER in low light and for me that’s huge.
I got a pic right now that I wish was brighter and am trying to use software to fix it but it just doesn’t look as good.
If I use a XS then I’m assuming this same pic would actually have turned out even DARKER
I’m not lookin to start some beef I’m just saying what I see ya know?
In fact y’all photo folks need people like me who don’t know anything and can just say it exactly how we see it.
I can’t tell you my eyes are lying to me. When I turn the screen brightness up the photo looks better. When the screen brightness dim it’s harder to see the photo. I’m not saying the photo has changed. I’m just saying that’s how I see it.

Wait a minute
You are saying that your iPhone XS photos are BRIGHTER in low light compared to X?
Well dang now my minds blown bc dude in the video said the opposite
I might have to get a XS and just do some tests myself.
I would definitely do your own test to decide. I don’t think the XS is worth the upgrade from the X honestly but I can say the camera has been the only real improvement other than the louder speakers.
Here’s a couple pictures I took in low light. The first one the is the iPhone X, the lights are brighter but they are blown out and the rest of the picture is darker. In the iPhone XS picture the lights are not as bright but the rest of the picture is brighter and the tree has much more detail. It’s up to you decide which one you prefer
This is pretty much the perfect example of what I’m trying to say.
YES, I agree the XS picture is better overall.
But the most important part of the pic, the subject which is the tree, is BRIGHTER in the X photo. In this case it seems somewhat washed out to me, but in photos where the subject doesn’t have lights I have found it’s still brighter but not so much washed out like here and I like that. The background is dimmer sadly in the X, and the X photo overall doesn’t look as nice, but that’s what we’ve been debating here.
So, let me again say my issue:
I have a picture. I’m trying to make it brighter overall. The subject AND the background.
More importantly, the subject has to be bright bc thats what I want people to see.
Now if I had taken this same pic with the XS, my guess is OVERALL it’d look better and yes the background would likely be significantly improved, but if the subject is DIMMER than that would not be good at all. My X did NOT wash out the subject at all IMO in this pic I am talking about so definitely do not need it to be dimmer.
As explained to you time and time over, that brightness in a picture is not always better. Even in the example provided in those picture the X blows out the subject whereas the Xs makes the subject more visible, detailed and there’s more structure to the picture.
That’s auto hdr kicking in to make the picture more balanced with measured highlights and shadows. That’s what a well balanced picture looks like not just bright blobs.
I said that, but rememeber this photo has lights as the subject so I’m not surprised it looks blown out. If the subject is just a few friends in a dimly lit restaurant then brightness on the subject IMO is a positive.
Even with a non-light source subject it’ll look better thanks to the smart HDR, because the highlights and shadows will be more natural and true to the scene.
With any photography, you’re supposed to capture the moment, not change it to something else automatically. If you’re looking to change the composition then it’s better to leave it up to the photographer to make all that alterations and with more details in the Xs picture you get more data to play around with, if you so choose.
Let me show you a couple of examples.

Look at how dark everything else around that picture is yet how detailed every spec of that firework is. That’s what Xs is good at.

Look at how detailed and true to life that picture is. This was taken at a really dimly lit restaurant.

Look at the awesome natural bokeh and balanced colour composition. Again there wasn’t too much light there.
Often photography is all about the eyes and skill of the photographer more than just blatant brightness. The Xs camera actually is a really good improvement over the X. Does that mean the X can’t shoot good pictures all of a sudden?! Absolutely not! Learning to take better pictures with the camera you already have is a challenge in itself. I had the 8 Plus (same camera as the X) last year and I can categorically say that I’ve managed to capture some awesome shots with it.
Quiz for you - one of those pictures was taken with the 8 Plus, guess which one is it?!
A few more low light shots just for good measure. These are a little bit edited but still pretty much what my eyes were seeing.

The test was flawed, and he admitted it.You may find this test interesting:
View attachment 810856 New X line much better with highlights. The multi-exposure shots works pretty well. Also, under exposing a shot isn’t uncommon as you lose more detail from blown out shots. Here is an test image SOOC from my XR. It was truly as I saw it. Evening low-light shot manged well by processing. The pictures from my XR are better than my wife’s X ..but then again her camera lens usually has fingers smudges all over it.. drives me nuts.
Second image processed to show what many people seem to like.. brighter image but not as-seen.
Neither. Darker is XR. Brighter is XR edited as example of what often seems popular and ‘won’ the MKBHD shootout. Darker is more accurate and how XR took it without any editing.Which one is X? the darker one?

Exactly. The “darker” one looks better to me with good balance between highlights and shadows. The edited one loses highlights and creates fake looking grass.
