If Android is crashing a lot on your Sony.....then it IS Sony to blame. Mine never crashes on my Nexus 5 and it never did on my GS3. My Wifes Windows 7.5 phone never crashes either.

I've had Android L on my device for like ten days, and the OS has crashed twice. I've had my iPad Mini for a month, and it has crashed twice (multitasking seems to do it). Compare the OSs on their prescribed hardware. For real.

I dunno, somewhere in West Texas
I love the iPhone just like the next person but it's far far from perfect. Hope you enjoy your trip back to iOS but you could have done it with a little class. This immature rant (filled with half truths) just makes you look real lame.

I was one of the first to install "L" on my Nexus 5 and since that first day haven't had a single OS crash. I've had plenty of force closures, mostly do to incompatible apps though, but that is to be expected until devs update their apps.
I have a feeling that some apps are effecting the OS at this point and could be the cause of your os crashes.

Dude you change your opinion like the wind changes direction.

My opinion was changed not by reading here or web reviews but by real life day to day usage, i don't change phones for the fun of it.

One of my main qualms about Android the OP pointed out is RAM usage.

I think more RAM is more important to me than a HD display or higher. I see alot of cheap $50 Android devices and the main deal breaker for me is the 512 MB of RAM while on Jelly Bean 4.2. This is why my girl's $150 Lenovo lags so much or the game she plays crashes on occasion. The Lenovo skin is quite heavy already, so her RAM usage goes up 80-90%. And yes, she has an optimize button and it still lags or crashes. SwiftKey already eats up 50 MB and its just a keyboard!

I feel even 1 GB might not be enough even for KitKat with the smaller footprint. I think 2 GB should now be bare minimum. My One only has 1.5 GB RAM avail with less than 700 MB usage. Rarely experience crashes. I think higher than 1 GB of RAM is better since 1 GB is really 900 MB in reality anyway. I prefer to keep my RAM usage below 50-60%.

The minimum requirements for a budget Android smartphone -

- HD IPS display with good viewing angles
- 1.3 GHz quad core or higher
- Adreno 305 or Mali 400 GPU
- 1-2 GB RAM
- KitKat
- Camera on the level at iPhone 4/4s at least
- Expandable storage
- Removal 2000+ mAh battery
- $80 or less

I see alot of sub-$100 but they usually are missing a few of those requirements. To fulfill or surpass those requirements I asked may take a year or so. But we are getting there especially with Xiaomi phones.

With all that said, I still love Android. :)

I love iPhone's hardware but I'm not in love with iOS anymore.

Agree, the S5 was still a sucker with 2gb, always killing apps. Samsung phones need 3gb. I reckon when iOS 8 and iPhone 6 hits there will be Android users everywhere scampering to get on board.

Agreed. Touchwiz is a RAM sucking hog. And I personally believe it needs 4gb of RAM to operate in all its bloated glory... efficiently anyway.

And while I am going to be getting an iPhone 6 it's highly doubtful we'll see some fantastic shift in marketshare. The only reason we see Apple with a 41% marketshare in the U.S. is because of subsidies on contracts. I have no doubt Apple will have a record selling quarter when the 6 is released, but I'll be surprised if Apple gains more than half a percentage point in marketshare (in the US. Worldwide I'll be surprised if it gains 0.1%). Plus, there are people like me that keep buying phones from the 3 main OS's, so there is actually no marketshare gain in cases like mine. Except for Windows Phone, since I have bought 4 Lumia's in the last 9 months. I may have increased WP marketshare all by myself! :D :p

Well said.......I think the IP6 will outsell the previous iphone and still be the best selling phone in the world. But i don't think it will equate to a huge market share increase at all worldwide.

I am one of the few that appreciate both for what they are. With that said, I think iOS is great for some people but much rather prefer android for myself. For people that want the phone that "Just Works" i normally tell them iphone(That has somewhat changed with KitKat). For simplicity, it can go either way(I'll expand on this). For reliability, I say Iphone(i feel like this has leveled a little bit with recent iterations of android).

First, I absolutely hate anything samsung has done with android. It is garbage and samsung has said they don't like android; Infact, Samsung is/has been planning on ditching android completely to build their own linux based OS(I hope is dies a fiery death).

Similarly, I strongly dislike Windows phones(Not as much as samsung because at least nokia has decent hardware and good build quality; Also, They didn't blatantly steal another companies ideas....)

On the note of the OP's new found hatred of android; Any skinned android phone is going to be garbage in some manner. It will have issues and won't run as smooth as stock. The first thing/phone i recommend to anyone is a nexus phone(or a google Play Edition). There is no skin that is as good as Stock/Vanilla Android.

"Android Silver" is a program google is starting where they are teaming up with these hardware companies to provide support in developement of the Android OS on the hardware. In return, The companies must leave android unskinned and relatively stock(Compared to what it currently is). This will allow much more control from google and will now have MUCH Better Quality Control over all. The funny thing is Samsung doesn't look like it is going to join this program.

To the OP or anyone else that has/is getting an Android phone; Ignorance is not an excuse. There are plenty of forums online where you can find out about the best phones, get opinions from people and find out the finer details about issues... Never listen to people at the phone stores, all they want is your money. If you can, Always go Nexus or a Google Play Edition phone.

You lost some credibility right there........You hate.....(your words not mine) a lot of things.
Windows phone has come a LONG way. WP8 with 8.1 is very nice.
Agree with you on Android Silver. Have to disagree on your iphone recommendations for overall stability. There are tons of Android phones that are completely stable right out of the box. Like the Moto X and Moto G...then HTC M8....Nexus 5 and yes....even the Galaxy S5.
I do agree with you on Google trying to take more control over Android and make it a more consistent platform. Android Silver seem to take that step. It is a very exciting time in the Android world right now.

I truly do hate touchwiz and in my experience found a lot of glitchyness in the additional features found on Samsung phones(Including the GS3, GS4, Note2 and Note3). Although I do not have much experience with the GS5 so i won't bash on it to much other than the perceived lack of quality.
Windows phone has come a long way and this is why I didn't touch on it much. I am not a fan of the UI and it's setup(just my opinion).
As for stability, I will always side with android but being as how this is an Apple forum and i do think the Iphone is a very stable OS(a decent few app crashes though) this is why i said what i did.
Motorola phones are now, more than ever, as close to stock android as any company has done. HTC has come a long way with sense 4, 5 and 6 and these phones are by far my favorite skinned phones now and they have me with being some of the most stable and best built phones; Honestly i think the build quality of the M8 is much better than the iphone 5s.

However, With all of that said, To each their own.

In reply to the original poster I would say that my S5 experience has been superior to iPhone in many respects.

Phone does what I need it to and is highly customizable to fit my needs. Frankly, I can't think of a reason to go back.

I'm sorry to tell you (Samsung hater) that Samsung will continue to rape the cellphone industry with or without Android.

Ugh.....

I will say - I'm proud of most of you. This thread hasn't devolved nearly as bad as it could have.

OP - don't like Android, that's fine. While I think carriers push Android devices more than iOS devices, I don't think there's some conspiracy forcing Android on "Americans". As others have stated, its far more popular in other parts of the world than in the US.

TBH, its cheaper Android devices that propel the insane smartphone marketshare numbers Android enjoys. My guess - flagship devices likely come out pretty even with iPhones.

But Android is a fine OS - and L looks even better. iOS similarly has come along and iOS 8 looks fantastic. Both OSes are mature and do most everything very well. Each still has flaws and quirks, but really it comes down to customization vs simplicity.

Its post like this that propel the stereotypes of "Apple sheep". I get bashed on this forum because people lump me into the same category as people like you.....and it irritates me to no end because I couldn't disagree more with your post.

I got banned for a min and now I'm back lol. I think it was just a mistake as I reported the poster above

Oh - I saw that his post was deleted. Probably why any quotes of the post were also deleted.

Anyhow - moving on. I feel like my deleted post still should stand however. I'm regularly pegged as a Apple apologist and iOS lover - and I'm very much looking forward to purchasing a Nexus 5 again (maybe even a Nexus 6) so I can jump on the Android L update.

Really digging what both OSes are doing right now (Android L and iOS 8).
