It is certainly my favorite of recent Macs. Better than my 2013 Mac Pro which I also think is a great computer (for what I use it for.) Faster than the Mac Pro in most cases too.

I am practically moving on having it replace my upgraded Mac Pro 5,1 and high-end Intel Macbook Pro. At my desk I have it plugged in. It works quickly - very nice. My config is a MacBook Pro 16Gb with 2TB. At the desk I augment with 38" curved monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, and occasionally plug-in drives.

its so slim so light great keyboard and display .but im so afraid to drop it. or get it wet
I'm not worried about getting mine wet, as I keep liquids away from it.
And if I'm moving it from place to place, it's in a padded case/bag. Otherwise, it's on my lap or on a table and safe from gravity.

Two things.

Get a hardcase like this. Makes it slightly thicker, but provides great peace of mind; I've dropped my 2014 13" MBP and the case prevented damage. The computer is still significantly thinner than my MBP in the same style hardcase.

I, or more to the point my dogs, knocked over a cup of tea and some spilled on my open M1BA...wiped it down, left it upside-down, and it was fine. It's pretty robust computer.

This laptop is absolutely amazing. The battery life on it is better than what I got on my iPads. Absolutely love this machine - cold to the touch all the time (except when playing games with my external 4k monitor - which it does really well) - instant iPad fast OS response - I can let it sit for days and it sips in standby.

A few days ago, I plugged it into my 4k monitor, played a couple Starcraft II games and noticed... oh my, I forgot to plug it into power... and it barely lost (if I remember right) 10%. That just floored me lol.

I don't regret trading in my 2020 MBP i7 for it. But I'll probably upgrade to the next gen M1 when it comes out because I'm really missing 4 ports and more ram (I'm a heavy parallels user).

Yep I agree with the hard case.

I’ve put it on, and I was messing around with screen protectors. I bought 1
From Spigen, but I always have a hair or dust under it.
took ik off and bought and magnetic privacy protector.

it’s a shame this specific protector only has a magnet up, and not down.

But if there is a hair or spec of dust, I just take it off, clean the screen and protector and it’s good to go. Best solution for somebody like me, who is traumatized by scratched screens ?

Did you play Warcraft reforged?

I never played Warcraft 3, so for the single player ,reforged sounds Oke. But I have some difficulties finding out, this plays good on an air 8gb.

I am afraid to get any computer wet. Don't eat or drink near a computer. liquids + computer => junk

I keep mine in a soft-sided case when it is not used, just like I do all my laptops. So far no issues in 5 months. The finish seems to be holding up just fine and the unit looks like new.

If I were to put something on it, I would go with a clear skin. I can't imagine putting a hard case on it since that would impact the feel and bulk of the super slim unit.

All my MacBooks going back to my 15" Al-Book have been in hard-cases like that, so the net decrease in thickness is the same me as for anyone who doesn't use a hard-case.

I started with hard cases and they tended to get marked up, added bulk, and always cracked in the corners after a couple of years. So I switched to skins or naked. So far I have not had any issues and I really like the thinner profile. And I always get excellent condition ratings and top value when I sell them.

I'm fine with a the hard-case getting marked up instead of the computer's itself; generally, I find the ones with the rubberized coating hide scratches better, and are easier to grip, than the smooth glossy ones. Replacing a $20 hard-case every two or three years is something I'm fine with.

I haven't tried the skins because I like the additional bump protection.

I started playing WoW in BC. I retired last year and let my subscription expire. I still do AOE and Starcraft II now and then. Played classic a little - and I'm very tempted to go back for the BC classic.

Never played Warcraft III (other than to just try it once or twice). I played Warcraft II as a kid. lol.

I'm tempted to try them :p

A comment - the new Macs with M1 chip can only boot from the internal disk. So if your internal drive won't boot you will need to go to Apple to get it fixed as you can no longer boot from an external drive. Plus it is almost impossible to do anything if there internal won't boot.

The hard case really does not add much bulk or weight, so the difference is negligible at best. I got a custom skin (graphic I made myself) from DecalGirl and applied that to the M1 Pro, then put a clear case over that, I've always gone with a clear hard case because I want to protect my investment while not covering it up. The decal works great because the graphic I first created back in 2012 (when Macs only came in silver) actually matches perfectly with the Space Gray many current Macs use.

Sounds great.

I got tired of Silver and Gray MBPs and went for Gold (which is more Copper to me). I really like the look the clean look of naked metal. Can't wait to see the Tesla Cybertruck in naked stainless steel!

Yeah I started WoW way back when TBC just came live. After I figured out I really can not combine WoW and work, I sadly stopped playing.

I know SCII is playable on the m1 air. but blizzard doesn’t let you buy or download classics WCIII any longer, they force you in to reforged.
And I am willing to pay €29 for reforged, but I can’t find the proof of this game running good on an m1 air. I’m playing Diablo 3 now on the air, and that plays like a charm .

Get an OWC Thunderbolt 4 dock. I have had mine for about 2 weeks now and it is great.

It is possible to boot from an external drive.

It still needs a working internal to start the boot process. I’m not sure how SSDs fail if this might be a problem in the future.

There is an Apple document that explains how it works but I don’t have it handy. Maybe someone else does.

FYI, I dropped two unibody Apple laptops, twice on a tiled floor, and nothing was broken (well, the aluminium took a dent, but everything was still working).

The 1st Generation 15" Retina MacBook Pro was a fantastic laptop and one of my favourite Apple Notebooks the 2016 15" MacBook Pro was hands down the worst Mac Laptop I have every owned (Horrible Keyboard, Hated the Touch Bar, fans where often pretty audible). The M1 MBA is now my favourite Mac Laptop ever. Silent, Fast and all day+ battery life.

I am even running Parallels and Windows for Arm as I need to use the Sage for Work (x86 Windows only App). WfA runs extremely well and I have not had any problems running Sage.
