BluRAY external drive added as optional accessory for $299. I really thought the shipping delays on iMacs were because Apple was going to swap in BluRay now while it updates the MBPs with BluRAY. I still think the 16:9 display change means BluRay is at long last finding its way into the Mac.

That's a funny one, Scottsdale. Everything Apple has done up to this point has shown they'd rather you buy your content (HD and otherwise) from the Apple store than buying it on a disc. I don't think anything has changed on that front, especially with the introduction of the iPad.

I agree with you. But I believe the pressures from Mac fans will force Apple to opt for this last optical drive. The bottom line is people want BluRay. Apple doesn't want BluRay, that's very true. But the costs are way down on BluRay, and people will be upset if Apple doesn't offer it at least AS AN OPTION on the MBPs, iMacs, and Mac Pros. That will ensure Apple makes an external version for the rest of us.

I just really believe the whole point in shifting the iMac to 16:9 is care for the videophiles who are desperate and write it all over these forums that they NEED BluRay now. There are also all of the professional that need BluRay for their studio development work.

I would even support Apple removing optical drives from every offering, but still offering an external BluRay drive with support within OS X. I know that's probably not going to happen either. I never use BluRays and rarely use DVDs, and I would never buy a BluRay drive for my MBA... but I think Apple will be forced to offer it as an option.

The other thing I believe is that Apple will be strong armed into offering Flash on the iPad. It makes NO SENSE in the world to not support Flash. As much as Apple hates Adobe, Adobe's Flash is a critical part of the Internet "experience." iPad buyers will be upset if they cannot REALLY go to any site they want on the Internet. Apple will cave. Sure Apple wants everyone to stop using Adobe Flash sites and even Adobe software, but that isn't going to happen anytime this decade. I am sure Adobe's CEO probably told Jobs, "If you call me your daddy I will fix your beloved iPhone's Internet "PROBLEM." Thus we still await the REAL Internet on the iPhone. Maybe since this is Jobs "Most important device ever," he will cave in and call up his Sugar "Daddy" Narayen. Sometimes I wonder if corporate disputes are little more than a little bi-otch slapping.

The announcement was so disappointing I bought a 27 i7 iMac in lieu of the current gen Air.

Speedmarks were showing that the current gen Air is slower than my late 06 MBP, and I just can't deal with how slow it runs Aperture right now.

I'm still hoping for Rev D though!!

I just read something from adobe commenting on the ipad not having flash and how that wasn't too smart yet the adobe team is trying to create a standard that will work on every kind of device out there.
