It's a Canon EF 100-400L IS USM lens taken with a 20D.

I'm plowing through all my things in the house I haven't touched in 6 months and trying to figure out what to sell (need that 30-inch ACD).

Taking this picture eliminated the lens from the "to sell pile."

Yes, tripod with a remote shutter release.

i've tried to take moon photos before but never managed those sorts of results... living in inner london surrounded by too much pollution and ambient light doesnt help!

Nice pic - but you should use the Adjustments->Highlight/Shadow option in photoshop and get rid of the exposure issues

Looks like you missed a bit on the left. Don't feel bad though I do that all the time, lots of holiday snaps with heads missing etc.
