I'm concerned once that port comes out they'll drop PowerPC support...not that I run MorphOS, but that would seem logical. There are a lot more AMD64 computers in the world then PowerPC's, and let's face it our Powermacs aren't getting any younger.

That would be a reason for them to give the PowerPC port away (completely for free)... as the hardware is such a niche now that it makes no sense to charge for a dead consumer architecture.

The desktop site struggles a bit on the G4, but using the built in iPhone UA it loads and starts playing a hair faster than tenfivetube. Once I get unpacked and set up I'll do a quick video. Currently can't find my stand to mount the phone to desk to make a video. It's somewhere in a pile of boxes I haven't dug through yet.

I’m flirting with the idea of, provided I can get a new logic board for my A1047 G5, buying a MorphOS license for it. As a file server, can it support AFP?

Small note on the supported HW list.

20" iSight G5 iMac (and really only that specific model) does work to the point that it really should be listed on the MorphOS website (but thats not my decision).

PCIe PowerMac G5 do work but there are some hoops to jump through as none of these shipped with a Radeon so you need to get one of those. Luckily you can run some "newer" PC cards using AtomBIOS without the need to flash or modify them. Those won't show a picture in OF or OSX so you either need to boot blindly or leave the NVidia in as a 2nd card.
I think you also need an ethernet card as the onboard one lacks a driver.
-> that why support for these is not officially listed.

Once I move to my new appartement in August, I might resurrect the PowerMac G5 7.3 then with MorphOS since I now got a grasp of AmigaOS running WB1.3 on a A500.

When I first tried MorphOS years ago on an iBook G4 , it was hard to understand how the OS worked so with the throttling down of the free edition I gave up and went back to good Leopard.

The PowerMac G5 11.2 will however stay on Leopard and Cubase duties 😀

I decided to have an MorphOS day today :)

My iBook G4 14" doesn't want to play , it kernel panics even on OS X so will have to look further into it, I had all kind of glitches, not selecting my boot drive, garbled video screen, I think it needs a PRAM reset or something.

My iBook G 12" 1.33 Ghz had no usable OS anymore on it's 60 GB SSD so I decided to install MorphOS 3.15 onto it.
But it's battery wasn't charging so PRAM reset and now it looks like it is charging but in the meanwhile I'm running it on the charger and the fans never stop working, they are like the shores at sea , going up and down even when idle.
Will see once the battery has finally fully charged if the situation changes, wayfarer is indeed fast but not lightning fast, it will start loading youtube's main page at 90-99% CPU and during 360p playback the video play instantly and doesn't struggle but CPU varies between 30-90% for no apparant reason.

PowerMac 11.2 has a Nvidia I think since I wouldn't get anything but the grey screen when booting from the Live CD.

PowerMac 7.3 which is listed as the PowerMac G5 to use booted fine but had such high CPU usage with the Live CD that I didn't bother to check it further for now.

First thought, on a higher-end Mac Mini G4, Powerbook with a Radeon (which are the bigger last ones) and a PowerMac G5 it could be a faster experience than OS X Leopard and has some newer software that supports it, but not jumping to any conclusions yet, the testing continues ...

On a sidenote, it looks like all my laptop PPCs are losing their PRAM grmph ...

And yes I'm rebooting every 30 minutes on my iBook G4 since it's an unregistered install.

The iBook probs could be due to a failing HD.

If the battery is (near) dead trying to charge it while also running the computer might overwhelm the 45W PSU, try running with it removed.

11.2. : AFAIK there is no Apple Radeon ever shipped with it that would be supported, so you get what is to be expected from a system listed as !un!supported
7.3. : Specific spec? You didn't run into the 30min demo timer?

PowerMac G5 7.3 was running slower on the Live CD then the iBook G4 12" and since all others system have an SSD but this PowerMac still has a HardDisk with things I need to backup first, I left it for now.

My PowerPCs are all acting funny, the working iBook G4 12" suddenly decided that the TAB key should no longer work.
The iBook G4 14" just had it's PRAM reset and for now it seems stable [EDIT] let me rephrase STABLE for the past 15 minutes, just rebooted into Leopard and it just froze at the login screen.

Anyhow enough derailing of the topic on my end, will give feedback once my machines are working and having a better view at MorphOS.

Reporting back from two harddisk based PowerPC's running MorphOS installed onto them ,still in trial so rebooting after 30 minutes.

The PowerMac G5 7.3 with 5 GB RAM still feels a LOT slower than the iBook G4 14".
Wayfarer is capable of playing back 360p Youtube Theater mode ( using Chrome as UAE) without the need to buffer but don't bother starting to multitask because Wayfarer either crashes or become unusable.

Mplayer seems to handle 720p well on both machines, haven't thrown every possible codec onto it .

Curious to hear feedback of others on their machines , is it really my machines , am I missing something ?

I'm now going to start installing E-UAE / WHDLOAD , Hatari, Atari800 on the iBook G4 and check these emulators.

To be fair, MorphOS is snappy and sleek out of the box even on a HDD.

That's really strange. My 1.6ghz G5 with the Radeon 9600 flies with morphos. The 1.5ghz G4 mini is relatively quick, but the G5 runs circles around it when it comes to web browsing or YouTube streaming. That reminds me... I was going to make a short video showing wayfarer and YouTube on the mini. Can I suggest 1 thing? Wayfarer supports per site user agents. Switch YouTube to use the iPhone user agent. It puts less stress on the browser and cpu and loads almost instantly.

Cheers

You need to get that monster to 8 gigabytes for it to really fly! I'm not running MorphOS on here (due to my GPU being an FX5200 Ultra) but I am running Snow Leopard (the 2008 WWDC beta, also known as 10a96 Client). It doesn't hurt to give it an SSD too.

Sadly, this does not work on my G5 Quad with Radeon x1900xt - I keep getting a black screen and nothing is working, plus the fans start going wild. Seems like MorphOS totally omits the Quad.

My understanding is that the x1900xt is a reduced rom card, so nothing other than OSX can use it.

I didn't have much time, and the video is short, but here is a quick wayfarer video on my 1.5ghz G4 mini.

Thanks for that.
What settings are you using on Wayfarer on this machine ?

I made a similar video on my (Powerbook 6.5) 12" iBook G4 1.0Ghz, 1,25 GB RAM which has a Samsung mSATA SSD installed.

I'm going to continue exploring MorphOS on this iBook since well the 14"s are not an option currently.
Only annoying thing on that 12" iBook is that the fans are constantly going up and down like a tidal wave.
They're not fulling ramping up but in Leopard the machine is dead silent unless under high CPU usage.

I use the iphone UA as default for all websites and only change a few here and there that require a different UA to look/work properly. I enabled all audio/video codec options for youtube as default as well. For github i use the chrome UA. For reddit i use wayfarers default UA but i use the old site layout (old.reddit.com) as it renders faster.

In all honesty i still use OWB as my default browser as its much faster, youtube still works on it (use fullscreen/fullwindow mode to use the cpu friendly overlay), and it still works with most sites. I really only use wayfarer for sites that require chrome/edge, like github.

Cheers

Never

(see above for reasons)

No idea if any work is being done to improve the (un)support of these but it is quite clear that there won't be any addition to the list of supported PPC HW anytime soon.

I would like to know too because I (and many others as well) would love to support an active project but I think it's quite difficult if can't find documentation and other resources about this OS, roadmap etc.

They have a forum, and I really have to imagine it would be a better place to get an idea of the state of things.
