I would say that this is the most anticipated phone EVER (even more than the first one). I can't believe that people anticipated the first phone (just like nobody anticipated the first iPod).

How would he make it known? Telegraph? Part of the reason that the iPhone could get so much hype was because of the internet (and also TV and other advertising).

I seem to recall that Graham Bell tried selling his invention to Western Union for $100,000, who was not impressed and passed on it. He then went on to found the Bell Telephone Company.

Seems like people were not into the hype on the original phone.

He probably didn't have very good television ads or much web presence, either. :p

Hmm...maybe he held some sort of "olde-fashioned" press event telling the people of his "grand invention."

Nope...nothing could reach the masses like the iPhone hype....basicly majority of people on the planet knows about it.(there are large number who don't, but there are billions who do)

Apple broke there silence...Brilliant!

What is interesting is that Apple broke there rule of thumb about keeping a product secret until a month or so before it is available. By doing so, they have created the biggest marketing machine ever for a cell phone.

Whoever suggested that they break their silence a half a year in advance to launch is brilliant.

they knew they couldn't keep it a secret. because of the FCC regulations and docs in getting it passed.

For me, this is the most anticipated product in a looong time.

Looking back, what were you most excited about purchasing? I mean, with this much zeal?

Sorry, don't mean to hijack thread.

Super Hyped

The iPhone certainly the most hype phone ever, but it can only live up the hype if it directly downloads the entire internet to your brain, and at the same time lets you communicate with every other human with an iPhone all at the same time.

Something like the Borg. :D

I'd say that this phone is the most anticipated ever. Moreso than any other first phone of its kind (be it rotary, cellular, the first wireless phone).

I am excited to meet other Apple people inline. I currently no one in real life thats as much an Apple Fan as I am.

I will be shocked to know their are others in my area that are going to wait inline for this thing. I hope there are some girls too.

After watching the 20 minute, demo video on it last night, I'd be tempted to get in line for one next Friday, if I had ten fingers, $600 bucks and any affinity for AT&T...which I do, don't and don't.

So Much Hype Now, Will Be Disappointed Later...

You know that there is so much hype in the iPhone. A lot of customers will be complaining later on after a month or two. Their major complaint will be "NOT ENOUGH SPACE ON THE HARD DRIVE." I am making this prediction. Mark my comment here. I have my iPod (80GB). I have used 20GB for music, videos and others. The iPhone can only hold 8GB.

Hey, Steve....When will you be making an iPhone with at least 40GB hard drive? The iPhone looks coooool, and a LOT of NEAT FEATURES. But it is NOT worth buying one till Apple increase the space on the hard drive. Will be waiting....

I am looking forward to the new iMac, especially the 24 inch. Can't Wait.

Apple could have solved this problem with a simple flash card slot! Crazy that a $500 phone doesn't have one.

Anyone know the reason for going flash memory and not micro hard drive? Is it really that much more of a powerdrain?

Flash memory isn't susceptible to shock like hard-drives are, also they access things faster I believe.
