i would agree it is definitely the most anticipated phone ever....its so funny over here in australia, people are bragging about how they have ordered their iPhone and are getting the 8gb one...i just laugh at them..........

I seem to recall that Graham Bell tried selling his invention to Western Union for $100,000, who was not impressed and passed on it. He then went on to found the Bell Telephone Company.

Seems like people were not into the hype on the original phone.

I believe Apple tried getting Verizon to put out the iPod, and they passed. :p

Nope...nothing could reach the masses like the iPhone hype....basicly majority of people on the planet knows about it.(there are large number who don't, but there are billions who do)

look you seem like a nice dude, but you have been posting some really whack stuff related to iPhone. Lets get some perspective, the majority of people in this world definitely do not know what the iPhone is nor are there billions of people who know. The world has a ton of people in it and most live at much much lowers means than we have ever dreamt of. Not trying to get all high and mighty, but come on bro there are a lot larger concerns in the world consuming people's attention than the iPhone. With that said, I still can't wait to get mine and feel lucky to have the means to do so.

did you mean to say iPhone? if so then yes this is correct, they did try to get Verizon, but they could not come to an agreement.

thanks..please PM me the links to the "whack" stuff about the iPhone...I'm sure I'll be able to explain myself better

6Billion people....most of North America, I assume lot of Europe(is this untrue?)...China does(enought to be copying it), I'm sure people in Asia/South American/Africa have heard of it...not as many, but still large groups of people. Maybe not the majority of the world, but 1Billion is a number I would not have trouble saying have heard of iPhone.

The world has a ton of people in it and most live at much much lowers means than we have ever dreamt of.

No, really

Not trying to get all high and mighty,
Thats good..I'm not trying to sound like a crazy fool

I think your mixing up know of the iPhone, and eagerly waiting for it to launch. You can know of the iPhone, and be concerned with other stuff.

I still can't wait to get mine and feel lucky to have the means to do so.
I'm ready to buy the iPhone too...and again I think you mixed up what I meant. I don't think the world is sitting around counting the hours until iPhone launch, but having tons of people heard of the iPhone...yup.

What is dangerous though is that high anticipation=lots of disappointment even if the product is amazing just b/c the fact that people make unrealistic speculation of how amazing it will be.

But besides that, I think that the iPhone is the most anticipated phone Ever in America. Not Ever, being in Asia, iPhone over here is like, hey its ok but lacks features and is expensive. That being said, Asia does make up for 1/3+ of the population and the consumers here don't really care since it's 1. expensive and 2. won't be released for a while. Now if Apple goes Global in the market and is able to create hype in these markets too (which I doubt) than it could possibly be the most anticipated phone ever.

It's pretty presumptuous to say that this is the most anticipated phone ever, in the history of everything, b/c frankly for a lot of average people, it's not that big of a deal.

well, I think the media frenzy will temper the 'genuine human hype' with their 'woe is you if you buy one' bullcrap...

It's certainly the phone with the most ludicrously biased negative 'speculative' media coverage.

This ABC article remains reasonably neutral about it but then lays' the boot in at the end with the price and 'first generation' garbage.

but what's really interesting is the wealth of negative 'associated' articles linked to the primary.

Can't America be proud of Apple? - Is the world not allowed to get excited about something amazing after years of crap ???

Are we not allowed to 'feel good' about this ???

What the hell is wrong with those people in media land? This is a GOOD news story about one of hte greatest products ever from one of the greatest tech companies ever - not the return of the nazi's in silver craft from the sky to burn down civilisation FFS!!!

Jees, have the god damned media got nothing better to do that endlessly spread fear into the minds of the mentally weak....

I have come to the conclusion it's a form of offensive jealousy. Basically all the people who've been pooh poohing Apple in favor of PC tech have had their worst nightmare visited upon them - the glory of Apple - and this might have to force them to generally acknowledge that Apple is a pretty hot company...

I agree. Apple is doing a great job in the market these days. I think that the same people who report all the negatives things on Apple products own at least an iPod or have thought seriously of purchasing one for themselves/friends/kids. Apple and PCs have been able to co-exist without the world ending, and plus they are both making lots of money. Whenever a company tries something new it gets coverage, being Apple, of course it will receive a lot more coverage. The negative talk is just the media responding to the hype while trying to sound "neutral" which is basically negative.

The iPhone certainly has a lot of hype. No doubt. Anyone in high school or college knows about it. Everyone in the tech industry knows about it. Anyone who watches even a little TV has to of seen a commercial by now.

However, I'm not sure if it's the most anticipated gadget, ever. Even though it's a disappointment (IMO) now, the PlayStation 3 had A LOT of hype.

Or what about Halo 2?!
