You can still own and use the products and be a hater! I guess you could call it, an innovation of your own...

Sometimes it's Apple's fault, sometimes it's the users fault. That's reality.

My iPad isn't bend. There are lots of bitter people on that sub-section of the forum. How does that mean I have my head up Apple?

I don't think they care about me, they're a company. They honour their warranty / AppleCare agreements and do the right thing for me every time I have an issue (even when they don't have to in writing), so as far as a company goes, they've looked after me. Credit where credit is due.

I'm not defending Apple, I'm just saying that haters are hilariously bitter, resentful and angry and delusional, so to use the words you chose! ;-)
[doublepost=1567698040][/doublepost]

I feel like I was there!!
That's not the issue (or at least how it started). The problem is that someone (the OP) posts that they opened a sealed box and the iPad was already bent out-of-the-box and someone else (Macintoshrumors) tells the OP to take better care of their device. Clearly, they didn't read the OP's post and responded with the typical "it is the user's fault".

Whether one wants to characterize that response as "delusional" is another thing. and one can accuse the OP of not being truthful or mistaken, which is still another thing.

If they're going to make a song and dance about it, and shove it down other users throats at every point, the least they could do is post a photo and show us the issue... then perhaps we'll understand. Furthermore, why don't they just take it back to Apple? Got two bad ones? Then take it to another store / open the replacement in front of them. I highly doubt Apple can't solve this or we'd have a full forum of angry users with the same issue. I call troll on him, he seems more preoccupied with slamming Apple over an actual solution to his alleged problem.

Even my cellular iPad Pro 11-inch isn’t bent. I guess I got lucky with mine. My first one that I had for 3 days did have a screen defect but I had it replaced and no issues whatsoever. I’m still gentle with it, even with it being in a case.

If people aren’t rough with their iPads, there won’t be any bending issues. If one is bent out of the box, return it and get another one.

I’d like to see some photos though.

I have two small children, a job and a house renovation to deal with. Immediately responding to the demands of forum trolls isn't high on my list of priorities.

What is it that is difficult to understand? The iPad is bent. It was bent when it came out of the box. After my Pro 11" experience, of course this was the first thing I checked. It isn't bent a lot, but is bent enough to slide a few sheets of paper underneath the long end of it when it is screen down on a flat surface. I have checked the original iPad Air, the iPad Air 2 and the iPad Pro 10.5" which I have access to, they're all perfectly flat after years of use (and abuse) by several children.

The closest Apple Store is more than two hours away. I don't have a day to spend on this nonsense. Returning it is a huge hassle as Apple insists on having DHL pick it up, which means I need to stay home, potentially all day, and wait for them. I have already been through this three times in the last few months.

I have had an SE/30, a IIci, a PowerBook 5300, a Power Macintosh 9600, a PowerBook Wallstreet, a PowerBook 12”, a long string of G3 and G4 towers, a G4 Cube, pretty much every generation of PowerBook and MacBook Pro released after that, and finally an iMac 5K and the 2016 MacBook Pro. I have owned almost every single generation iPod, iPhone and iPad ever released.

I have never been so dissatisfied with an Apple product that I did not want to keep it prior to the 2016 MacBook Pro and the latest iPads, and I have loved most of them, but these I have found absolutely horrible. I am all-in on the ecosystem, and do not see any reasonable alternative, which is why not having the options (and product quality) that I am used to is frustrating. If venting this is slamming Apple I guess that is what I'm doing.

I wasn't asking for a solution. I know how to return an Apple product. I was simply asking if anyone had seen a new Air bent out of the box since a search didn't turn up any such results.

This entire forum has taken such a defensive stand over the years. It’s difficult to gauge who are genuinely supportive, who are here to help, assist or those who simply loiter here, on hand to defend the corporation at all cost. It almost feels these loyal corporate supporters are the majority around these parts, so much so that genuine user complaints are ridiculed or treated with suspicion and/Or accusation of the user.

That’s not what forum discussion is about and I dare to say that many users do not enjoy coming here any more. Particularly if they have product issues. I honestly feel sometimes the responses here sound as though they are from commission based sales staff, only here to protect the brand and it often leaves me cold.

It gets to feeling too many here want proof of everything. There is zero trust in complaints of any kind and too often gets to feeling you are being chased off the forum if you are not prepared to argue, prove this, prove that ‘source please’..all days long with the seasoned apple support on this board. it gets tiring and they ultimately win..in most cases you will leave with your tail between your legs, thinking maybe the fault is all yours after all.

I find that there are more complaints than good things.

You just gotta learn to ignore the blatant fanboys. These are the same fools who blamed the user for Macbook Pro keyboard issues, iPad Pro bright white spot issues, and blamed users for getting pre-bent iPad Pros. They'll blindly defend Apple no matter what.

Maybe that’s why. ‍♂️

To establish whether there is a problem with bent Air3 iPads, you'd have to have some statistics, otherwise it's all anecdotal. I bought an Air3 earlier this year, and it's definitely not bent. So far I've had no problems with it. But obviously, the OP has a bent one. If it's rare, then the remedy is for him to get it exchanged. If it's not rare, then I understand why the OP might be frustrated and give up on iPads altogether - I wouldn't blame him.

But I'm also not sure how one can settle this on a forum here. It's kind of how I feel about iPhones and battery life. I had a severe problem with my 6S, the battery just wouldn't last, and it was exchanged in an Apple store just a few months ago. So I went back last week. It transpired that my battery swelled for some reason. Apple really stepped up - I got a brand new iPhone 6S, so I was happy. Because prior to that, I was really looking into just jumping ship on phones - this because my wife has a Huawei phone with a battery life that is spectacular and in general she's quite happy with the whole phone. My new phone is much better, but still the battery life (on a brand new phone!) is nothing to write home about, it's barely OK, I still have to charge it a couple of times a day (and I've turned off location and other services to try to get the battery as efficient as possible). In this case I understand that all iPhones are just bad as far as battery life. It's not just my phone. Accordingly, I am seriously thinking of bailing for an Android phone. And I think I will do it, because I have no faith that Apple will get better in this regard. All I'm waiting for is a good opportunity, because I need a good carrier and what's allowed on that network is what will determine when I actually bail. I am very close though - I HATE the garbage iPhone battery life. I want a phone that I can use without recharging daily when using lightly. The hell with iPhones.

Meanwhile I'm very happy with my iPad - so I'm sticking with it. But I fully 100% understand why the OP might be frustrated - I'd be too.

This is the risk when you go too thin with alum 6000series
I got an Tab s6 but i had to return it because of this reason
This is becoming ridiculous and a lottery

I’ve had a number of iPads since 2009 and up to including my iPad Pro I just have no idea if any of them were or are bent slightly. That’s because I use them and not obsess over them, running straightedges or whatever against it to look for a minuscule air gap.

I have news for you overly-obsessive people, iPads are mostly built by hand, using very thin parts, which are manipulated by several people during assembly and then glued together. For such a thin device relative to its size, I would imagine that they could become very slightly ‘bent’ during manufacture. Personally, I wouldn’t mind if my iPad was one or two millimeters thicker in exchange for better battery life, but Apple has this thing with making everything thinner and thinner.

To everybody else, save yourself grief and sleepless nights, as well as wasting time running back and forth to the Apple store numerous times by using your iPad as a computing device instead of a straightedge-checker. Yeah yeah, I know, “All of my things have to be perfect!! I’m super-OCD with my devices!!!”. Big deal, use it for a few years and you’ll sell it for a newer model. Just enjoy the thing.

I can only imagine your frustration op.

Thankfully my iPad pro 11 came out of the box fine, and is still straight, although I do admit that I check from time to time.

The thing is... This is a very small percentage of the total number of units being produced. You should be able to find one that's not bent.

an iPad Air 3 (2019) that I bought also is now bent.
it's approximately 4 months old.. I bought it in mid January.
this feels very frustrating and disappointing.

any thoughts on where Apple stands on this ?
this became bent over time. It was not bent out of the box.. nor was any external force or pressure applied on it.
it has been handled meticulously.

suggestions are welcomed.

hmm.. the iPad was first release in 2010. How could you have had one since 2009 ? :)
anyways.. I attached a photo of my bent iPad Air 3 that is 4 months old.. I hope you don't consider this a "minuscule air gap", or "slightly bent" ?
any thoughts on how I should meaningfully address this would be appreciated.

thanks !

The iPad on the picture is definitely and visibly bent. If you are absolutely sure it was not like this out of the box (which you would probably notice) then your best bet is contacting Apple and sharing these pictures with them. See what they say, you never know how many similar complaints they could have had.

After being sent two bent iPad Pro 11" units I gave up and sold the third one unopened at a loss since Apple wouldn't let me return a product that clearly has issues I cannot accept.

I was going to buy an updated MacBook 12" instead, but the line was dropped, not updated.

Since I need a small mobile computing device I decided to try the new iPad Air. I could tell before even taking it out of the box that it wasn't straight. Holding it up to the side of my iMac or the top of my Magic Keyboard, both of which are confirmed reasonably straight, it is obvious there is a gap in the middle. I could probably fit the height of the famous stack of four papers through it.

I've had every single generation iPad excluding one or two, and none of them have been visibly bent. I still have the original iPad Air and the iPad Air 2 in the house, they are both perfectly straight after years of abuse by children. The iPad Pro 10.5 I gave away when I thought the new iPad Pro would replace it was also just fine. (I still have access to it, have checked.)

This is ridiculous. What the hell is going on?

All the bend threads I've found have been about the new Pros. Has anyone else received a bent iPad Air?
Don’t sit on it.

IMO this must be force from inside or outside. So either someone sat on it or the battery is swollen. Anyone ever had an iPad bent due to a swollen battery?
