The new 2011 iMac...Are you getting it?

Hey everyone...are you going to be purchasing one of the new 2011 iMacs?

I personally am looking forward on getting one of these for some video editing. Looking at the highest end 27inch with the i7 configurations and 2GB AMD GPU. What are your opinions? Will you be getting one of these for yourselves?

I bought one pretty much immediately after they were available.

I topped it out, except no SSD, and I bought 16GB from elsewhere. I badly need a new computer, so it was a no brainer.

I would, but I bought a 27" iMac only two months ago, plus I don't really need the better video card or processor so I'll probably pass on this one.

I need a desktop and the new iMac fills my void. I will buy either the new iMac or a refurb iMac. The 21.5" is very practical, but the 27" is just awesome, think Titanic. I am a beginner photographer and video editor, so the 27" screen might be a good choice.

It is very exciting to follow a company like Apple, as their product releases are always fun to research. Now I know why owning an Apple device is a cult-like experience: they release a new product every month or so.

Bought first one in Cincinnati

I bought the first one at the Cincinnati store. Just the base 21.5 model, but it does everything I want and I am really impressed with the speed and performance so far. Happy I did it and getting rid of the Winbloz desktop system has really cleaned up the desk and given me a lot more room!

Yeaa .. no more thinking, I'm buying 2011 iMac, and so should you. Don't wait for another refresh, which if not lying, will be a total redesign.

While it sounds good, it keep its own drawback, new design means new problem etc. You'll end up sorry when you get the new redesigned iMac just to face with new overheating, screen issue, failing hardware and so on.

So, for me, it's better to be at the peak of old design rather than at the beginning of new design. Because it means the old design has been so good that get bored and decide to jump in the new one

not quite every month but there is a typical or average cycle for most products.

Do it! I changed to Mac and I run windows servers for a living.

I'll be getting another one soon. Probably a beefed up 21.5 with SSD.

Bought my first iMac (Going to sell my 2006 Mac Pro...anyone know a good place to sell it?)

I got the 27" iMac
3.4 i7
256 SS Drive + 2 TB HD Drive
ATI Radeon 6970 2GB GFX Card
4GB of RAM (although I bought 16 from OWC)

So my iMac is fully decked out! I'm so excited! I wish it wasn't a 4-6 week wait

Would love to have the SSD, but just way to expensive IMO. But that 4-6 week wait just because of the SSD option must be do frustrating!!

I will also get the 16gb ram from elsewhere, hopefully this will make up for not having an SSD.

Currently have a 2008 3.06 imac24". The speed difference is going to be amazing for me.

Typical, just as I'm about to shell out on a new iMac, my car decides to start acting up! Gonna have to delay the purchase till I get my car fixed

Since the iPad has pretty much taken the MBP's place in my daily on the go usage I was thinking about selling my MBP and getting a 2011 iMac. Ughhh.... the screens are so pretty..... But you never know when you might need the portability of a laptop.

Haha. My sole reason to eventually purchase one of these is for the video-editing I'll be doing (for my YouTube Tech Channel) and I am planning on getting into Photography, etc. lol.

IN all honestly, I took the risk. If your willing to make an investment and your not too much on the money side, go ahead and purchase a Macbook or MacBook Pro and check it out for about a month and see how you like it. If you do not like it, you can return it within 30 days (I belive so). If your on a budget but still really want to check out Macs, go ahead and purchase a Mac Mini and try it out.

I was at the same descion awhile ago, and I purchased a Macbook Pro...LOVED IT. Windows is still my main machine, and even when I get my iMac, Windows will still be my main, but I really enjoy using the Mac OS interface and everything.

When people say...I love PCS or I love MACS...I say...I love Both.

I will most likely purchase one of these within the next month...just loading the cash in my wallet. Im going to end up getting the 2GB AMD GPU and the i7 processor on the highest end 27inch with a seperate order of 16 GB RAM and Windows 7.

You better start "loading the cash" into your wallet. Sounds like you already have your plans mapped out! Cool! I am thinking about buying the HDD+SSD storage option. I heard it is a 4-6 week wait though. I had better order soon.

Got one this afternoon, the new 27" i5 quad 2.7Ghz (the $1699 one).

That's the most I have ever spent on a computer at one time.

Conversion from PC to an all apple house is soon to be complete for me. iPad 2, iPod touch, iPhone 4 for the wife (company gave me a BB), Macbook Pro 13.3 which is going to replace my wife's HP laptop, and now 27" iMac replacing my desktop PC. The only remaining item is to get an AppleTV to replace my HTPC, which was itself built to replace an original AppleTV 40Gig that died on me.


PC stuff will probably go to my stepson once we get the documents and such cleaned off.

I found the iMac ones for 16BG $207 and 8GB $104 on OWS

I can't find the mobile ones for iMac on newegg only the desktop PC ones. I wanted to see then price difference

Also, I realize doing it yourself is cheaper I am hesitant to open the machine. Never did that before for a computer. HELP!

There's a bunch of ram on newegg. Starting at $83 for 8gb. Just go to memory and look under laptop.

As far as changing the ram, it's 3 screws on the bottom panel. Then you plug the ram in. Then put the panel back. Done. Couldn't take you more than 5 minutes tops.
