Hey guys! So myself like thousands of others today are experiencing the new iPad music player app, but have been met with disappointment.

Until now I have used the lyrics function on the music player (whilst in fullscreen album cover view, press the screen to bring up lyrics of a song if it is in the tag). I study languages daily and part of my "ritual" to learning is I follow lyrics from music, however now that function seems to have completely disappeared and been taken over by the new slide to change track function (Which admittedly is quite handy for using in the car).

What I want to know is am I just missing something and the function is still there somewhere, or is it gone for good?

The other thing is I like to sort by genre and have genre along the bottom like you can with the iPod Touch, but I can't seem to find where to change that either!

ON TOP OF THAT! Is now when I select a genre the tracks are sorted in alphabetical order, not by album artist / album, again is there any way to set this? As I can't find any of the above functions.

Cheers.

Mine is working fine just tap the full album work and it shows... make sure your settings are right
Settings > Music > LYRICS AND PODCAST INFO make sure it is on.

On the iPad 2, that option is not there....

My bad I read iPod and not iPad... hmmm... I see what you mean now.

----------

"Unfortunately, the UI confusion doesn't end at this screen. A single tap on album artwork used to bring up lyrics info, but that's been deprecated; tapping instead brings up the controls, with no lyrics info at all. Inexplicably, Apple has removed lyrics support entirely from the iPad's Music app in iOS 5; it feels like an intentional move, since multiple betas came and went without the feature being restored, and lyrics support hasn't returned for the public release. Even the iPod nano is capable of displaying lyrics, so the iPad is now the only Apple device other than the iPod shuffle that has no lyrics support. It's baffling."

They also seem to have removed podcast descriptions, podcast speed controls, and worst of all my iPad is stuck playing podcasts at half speed and can't be changed. Arrgh!

The overall feel of the new iPad music app is very uncomfortable to me. When looking for an artist it takes me a while because of the album artwork being shown. I've had the betas and it still gets me every time. :(

Just something I'm going to have to get use to I guess.

Also when you click on the Artist-Button at the bottom and you select an Artist with multiple Albums, you don't have unlike on the iPhone a button called "Shuffle All"... you can only shuffle an album at a time... This sucks :(

Yes PLEASE everyone send negative feedback on this!!!

Until it's ficed, I don't see any alternate iPad music playerapps that will play music from your library and play the lyrics EMBEDDED in the file *anyone know of any?). However, there are several apps that will search and display lyrics from the internet based on the song pkaying in the music player. I'm using LyricsFinder - it's certainly not an ideal solution as it only has about 40% of my song lyrics and the doublt app usage is cumbersome, but it does have it's own play controls so it's better than nothing.

Let's hope this get's fixed soon!

I'm very disappointed with the new "music" app for IPad in iOS5.
My primary complaint is that I am stuck looking at album art.
Where's the choice to configure the view the way I want it?
Personally I prefer a list view, like I still have in the music app on my iPhone4 or in Itunes 10. To eliminate this from the IPad music app is very "unApple" IMHO because it shows a lack of design continuity btwn platforms.

Couldn't agree more. The music player looks very un-Apple and thier new vision of form has completely diluted function.

Not impressed.

Are there any good 3rd-party music players?

Agreed. Created an account here just to chime in. The music app is horrid, and the iOS 5 ebook (iPad) says lyric support is there, but it's definitely gone.

As much as I hate to say this, the Zune HD firmware is really good for music navigation. I really expected this to be better for ios 5. Really, really hope to see an update in this regard.

I suspect there are others and I haven't tried the new one from SRS. Waiting for their iPad version. But you might want to try their "MyMusic" app if you're using an iPhone or an iPod. Their forte is sound quality, not necessarily navigation and features like lyric presentation, but it's worth a try, especially since it's a recent app.

No endorsement implied but I've used their software for years on various devices and I have the iWow adapter for the iPad and it makes a huge difference in the sound quality for headphones and external speakers from the iPad.

Sent a lengthy reply.

Really all they had to do was recreate itunes inside of the iPad. Not try to create some new style program thats so 'minimalist' it probably only took several lines of code and about 10 minutes to lay out.

They can't claim they don't have the space for it, the screen and resolution is far more than enough to have an itunes style experience. Things such as to pick the layout style of searching through music, picking in what order you want your music, picking the categories at the bottom (Something that you can do on the iPhone and iPod Touch anyway), and allowing custom genre covers. That last one really only needs to take the album cover from a random album in that genre and put it as the cover, that alone would make it 100x better.

I just sincerely hope Apple admit the new music player is a ****ing shambles and revert back to the old one but with most customization selections. About the only new addition they should keep is the slide to change track thing but even that I feel should be a function you can toggle on and off. It's just I use it as the music player in my car, so being able to just slide the screen to change track is a massive help as it makes changing track a much safer experience.

yep the new look to Music in iPad is scruffy and the functionality is very poor compared to the previous version or itunes. Why was the facility to play music videos removed? I can still look at my music video playlists but they only play audio. That isn't what I bought my iPad for. The Video app is worse than useless as an alternative because I cant organise the music videos. They are just a jumbled screen of album covers.

iOS 5 is an over-hyped shambles

I much prefer the new player, but i didn't depend on any of the apparently-missing features. I found the old player to be confusing, clunky and often times buttons were hidden. I either want to queue up a playlist and turn on shuffle, or queue up an album and disable shuffle. That's it.

I've also experienced the third one. Not just it was blank there but half the UI was missing for me too!

I just experienced this myself.

I also created a few playlists, and 1/2 to all my tracks were inexplicably graded out like they weren't available (or had already been added to the playlist). It made creating the playlists quite difficult.

The old app is far superior as fas as I'm concerned. In fact, I've got a small 2gb Sansa mp3 player around somewhere and I'm certain I can find what I'm looking for on there faster than this new music app. Yes, it's really that bad.

As I've said before. This app is horrible. It feels very beta.

1. Can't play all songs from an artist.
2. No lyrics support.
3. Buggy. (pic shows nothing loads, have to quit restart app)

#3 - I use my iPad everyday for music and have had all the betas over the summer and this was there ever since beta 1!! When i saw it in the GM release i was shocked this bug wasn't fixed. Even sent it to Apple a few times but it's still there!
