Now I need to decide whether I should replace my 2007 Mac Pro with this or not. Non-Pro Iris and me being an occasional FCP X user I'm not sure, since GPU will be a step down from my 5770 (and I can upgrade graphics in Mac Pro), but CPU will be better. Edit: No quad-core CPU option? Ok, this is a non-starter, so my old Mac Pro is going to keep chugging along.

I'm willing to do hacks to get Yosemite running on my unsupported Mac Pro (currently running Mavericks quite well), but it would be nice to not have to do that, and have Bluetooth LE work properly for Continuity, etc.

Sweet, I was feeling mildly disappointed about buying a refurb quad core in July, not so much now!

Would be nice to have faster wifi and an extra Thunderbolt port but oh well, I'll live.

So they price has really gone up, since any upgrade in hard drive will be at Apple prices. I was happy until I saw the PCI SSD/

I hope they have left one sata connector.

Well, the 499 config appears to still have a spinner. If so, you can still install a slow SSD in the base model. But yes, we'll have to see if they changed the spacing/wiring.

Do these i7s support hyperthreading? Otherwise 2 cores is pathetic, especially going from my quad-core 2011 MBP.

Still HDD, and 4 USB 3 ports, with quad i7 options. :)

And bye-bye Firewire.
Too bad, if they could keep that sad little 5400 rpm hard drive I don't know why they couldn't keep firewire.

But the new baseline processor, what a cruel joke.

surprising to see that it seems the new mini doesn't support 4K displays. says that max resolution is 2560 x 1600

I can't ***** believe SSD isn't standard.

They gimped the base model. Hence the lower price.

2 years for this!!!!

HDMI video output

Support for 1080p resolution at up to 60Hz
Support for 3840-by-2160 resolution at 30Hz
Support for 4096-by-2160 resolution at 24Hz

I wrote that before I learned the 499$ version was a Macbook air from 2 years ago. I would not consider that version no matter what. I think a refurb 2012 will be the best value for me.

Yeah and they gimped the top model and raised the price. No quad core and still no ssd standard. LAME!

Have you guys seen the new specs for the $499 version? I feel like the annoucement was very misleading..

everything is an option (as usual). the $499 model is severley underspecced imo. check it out.
True. Not as great a deal on the $499 Mini as it first seemed. Presumably, the higher priced models will be the ones many more tech-savvy users have to go for, which is in keeping with how Apple has always generated maximum profits for many years now.

It's complete and utter nonsense that there's no Quad-Core option whatsoever. That's really, really, really lame.
