Well you have 14 days to make a decision and send it back if you aren't happy.
Air is up for refresh also. I personally don't believe there will be a new mini until June. Apple will probably introduce new monitors too.

The Air was the first to be updated to Haswell. With no new update from Intel, I doubt ther is an Air on the way.

Really?

I'm thinking that a good rule might be "avoid Macrumors for a couple of months after buying a new mac." :)

Intel released some second gen Hasswel chips that are more efficient and rumor is that retina screens will also move to the Air. ????

That would be a MAJOR redesign, not a refresh. No way that would happen before Broadwell.

----------

In Canada, BestBuy, Futureshop & Staples are all out of the entry level mini.

Sold Out
Quantity Remaining: 0

It's a little weird that they are all out at the same time without any specific reason.

Best Buy owns FutureShop and they share warehouse and inventory. So for those two it would be weird if one had it and the other didn't.

I was aware of that but Staples is also out.. I'm don't rely on stats but this doesn't happen that often.

Also Staples was selling it at 499$ instead of 599$

Showing In Stock and $499 at both Staples and Future Shop online for me. That $499 it tempting though..

I was not shopping for one but like you said this is tempting!

I could sell my iMac 2008 to finance it.

with the slip in delivery times for Mac Pro...

I wonder if the feeling at Apple would be to not release the new Mini until initial Pro demand is met - so as not to cannibalize Pro sales. Not that the two overlap a whole lot, but could be. Thoughts?

With Windows XP support ending there will be a lot of people looking to replace their computers because they can't upgrade to 7 or 8 with old hardware. It is a perfect time for Apple to unleash a New Mini to capture a lot of those people and businesses that don't want to deal with Windows 8/8.1. I have one of those machines that still works well that I'm converting to Lunix to play with. It could be all a mater of timing on Apples part.

If they wait until Pro demand is met, that means it will be at least May before we see a new mini. It's been reported that shipping date for the Pro is now April.

I don't think so. I have both a Mac Pro and a mini. They are two completely different computers for different tasks. You cannot substitute a $5,000 computer for an $800 one.

My theory is, that Apple wants 802.11ac (for AirPlay) in all Macs, before they release an updated version of the Apple TV. iTunes (including AirPlay) is a very big business.

Not quite true. It's surprises me no one understands the true nature of this delay. Iris pro is so powerfull, that in combination with a very capable quad core cpu, the mac mini will be much more appealing then iMac. It's already selling extremely well(in B&Hphoto it's on positions 1 and 3 of top sales for macs; in Amazon is number 1 as well etc) so Apple does not like that! Already has the advantage of ram being easy to upgrade vs iMac impossible to upgrade for casual user(21,5" models). They intended the mini to be introduction into Apple ecosystem for Windows users, not the mac witch everyone buys. If the mini becames too popular they might even try to kill it. I wait to replace my old model with a new mini, but no way in hell i will purchase integrated graphics 2 years old. But if Apple brings IrisPro to mini then will jump all over it. There is one more thing. Apple prices are mad outside US. In Europe macmini is 1200$ for the base quad core. The iMac entry level with IrisPro model is about 2000$ and it does not even have user access to RAM modules !!!! This is freaking too much, so everywhere i look macmini is the best seling item in EU. The last thing Apple wants is a mini with a combination of powerfull graphics and cpu, it will kill imac sells in Europe(and i bet other parts too) for good. My bet is Apple is trying to put Broadwell graphics into everything else(laptops and imac entry level) before moves to haswell mini. So they try to keep it a generation behind iMac and laptops to make it less appealing to long time mac users. I also bet they will make it non user upgradable......

Not that any of us truly do, but I don't think you understand what's going on either. Apple isn't afraid of consumers picking one Apple product over a more expensive one. They all have healthy profit margins and it means you're still buying an Apple product, which is what they care about. If a new Mac Mini was more appealing than a new iMac for less money, they would sell a lot more Minis and still make money. Apple does not fear product cannibalization. This is not the hold-up.
