The Apple Store is still down. Everything else has been updated, even the iMacs and the Macbook Air that most people had considered were not getting an update today.

It would make sense for a silent update of the Mini to Kaby Lake standard. Bear in mind the clue here is the iMac 21.5" which got an update to Iris Plus Graphics 640 at the base level. This is the 15w Air class CPU which I expect will find itself in the refreshed MBA and base non-touch-bar 13" Pro.

I still think the Mini is going completely 15w CPU. Probably not something they want to mention in a keynote.

hey guys its okay, theres something called HomePod now.... hahahaha

Apple has been on a downward trend since jobs died, it continues now. Basically saying a big F you to the business/pro users with no new mac mini, and no new mac pro. yes the imac lines and macbook pros were refreshed and iMac pro looks good but thats not enough. macintosh products got like 5 minutes in the keynote before it was brushed aside so they could talk about ipad...

I'm left wondering what to do with my Late 2012 Mini server (quad 2.6 GHz i7). The graphics are a major bottleneck, otherwise it is great. I could put an SSD in it, I guess, but what else? A discrete graphics card through Thunderbolt? Not sure that's worth the investment.

Ziggy,
The 2012 is 'on the cusp' if you will. For me, it represents a 'low end' machine GPU wise for game devleopment - new enough to support certain features in hardware (Direct X 11_0 HW feature level), and just enough EUs to hold it's own @ 1080p. My current game will run @ 60 fps @ 1080p on it (via Bootcamp), but not that many others will. For OSX development, it still gets the job done, especially since I have a 1TB 850 Pro for the OS drive. At 5 years old, it makes a good line to define the CPU min-spec, though the CPU has held it's own much better and it can compile/build nicely.

The lack of 4K @ 60hz support is an issue. We're finally in an era of cheap 4K panels and 30hz isn't cutting it.

The resurrection of Mac mini is almost certainly coming in 2018.
Alongside Mac Pro. Or not.

The only hope now is that the new Modular Mac Pro in 2018 starts at a price level which is acceptable for users who would have specified a top level Mini. In other words, a version with integrated graphics for developers and musicians. Other than that the Mini could end up lingering like the 2013 nMP until it's finally killed off when the mMP arrives.

Hah. The iMac Pro; a mass of expensive equipment crammed into an AIO case, with essentially zero end-user ability to upgrade or maintain. A $5000 disposable computer.

Yeah, I've pretty much had it with Apple at this point.

fair enough, im not buying it but there are pro users out there that could probably justify it and the closed system part is not really new to apple

im in the same boat with you as a long time mac user i feel like this shift all mobile focus started with steve passing on, tim cook has been a pretty bad ceo

Don't worry guys. I'm sure the new Mini is in the pipeline. At least it must be almost certainly coming!

The RAM looked slotted on the iMac Pro. Granted, you can't see the SSD but heat pipes could mean they are obscured for cooling purposes. 2 slots (glimpsed on the tech summary) suggests they are slotted though - up to 4Tb SSD suggests 2Tb sticks?

Don't worry guys, look on the bright side. We may have to migrate to the Mac Pro forum in 2018 ;)

Yep, I built my own Windows 10 PC a few weeks ago with a blazing spec for around a third of the cost of 'just the ordinary' iMac's announced today.

I know people will say 'well you would say that wouldn't you' - but I'm really enjoying being back with Windows as 10 is a great OS. My bank manager is also very happy for me too. :)

Almost... Maybe in another 3 years? At this point, you guys are way better off going to newegg.com and buy a similar machine. Cheaper and faster. Even HP makes a better one.

This feels like a dog waiting for his dead master to return. It's time to move on.
