Pardon me but wt effff is that?
One of the worst design choices apple has made - imo, the magic mouse's USB port is underneath the mouse, so to charge it, you have to stop using it, and keep it upside down.

First released in 2009 and used batteries it was a good mouse, in 2015, they released the rechargeable version using the lightening port. One would hope that when they were going to switch it to the USB version (in 2024) they would have relocated the port or re-engineered the mouse but alas. they did not

One thing much more annoying than the port placement on the Magic Mouse is the endless stream of posts complaining about it. It's a minor thing, easily mitigated with one moment's thought over the course of the mouse's many weeks of battery life. What one can't work around, though, is how heavy and awkward the Magic Mouse is, and how surprisingly poor its tracking is.

You are correct. It has not ever been even a half decent mouse. It has been pure crap. Much like the $200 "magic" keyboard with NO DAMN BACKLIGHTING. Another epic fail from apple, the company that loves to take your money for crap.

...not as bad as the inevitable responses defending it on the grounds that its not a problem as long as you remember to charge it every night... (thanks for that revelation - I'm sure nobody had thought of that!)

I guess that also justifies the Mac Mini power button - you don't ever need to shut your Mini down because you need it on overnight to charge your Magic Mouse. Genius. /s

Every night? You made that part up. Remember once a month and you're good. Anyone who can't manage that... I suspect they might have bigger issues.

Uh, is that every calendar month or 4 weeks? Perhaps it could automatically set an alert in Calendar "Hey, it's the third Tuesday in the month, remember to charge your mouse!"

Or perhaps they could just put the freaking charging port where Logitech has been putting it since forever so you could just recharge it on-the-go without interrupting your work/play?

Here's a few questions to get back on topic.

Do you think the M5 Mac mini will be released this year or will we need to wait until early 2026?

Also, does anyone think the base RAM will stay at 16GB, or will we see an increase to 18, 20, 22 or 24GB RAM? I'm including 18, 20 and 22GB RAM in my question because we've seen weird, non-standard RAM amounts from other Macs in the past, such as the M3 MacBook Pro starting at 18GB RAM if I'm not mistaken.

And last question, what's the best way to get a discounted brand-new M4 Mac mini in Canada once Apple releases their new M5 models?

M5 Mini? Maybe. Possibly Not sure.

16GB will be here for a long time.

Order an EDU Mini for pickup in a US Apple store near the border?

Thinking of getting a base M4 mini for light development work, can it handle XCode fairly well? As well as the occasional Pixelmator Pro and Final Cut Pro editing. I haven't used a Mac since ~2020 pre-Apple silicon on my 2017 MBP. I feel like 24GB for an extra $300 CAD is not really worth it.

Bought a dock for it so I'll be fine with using expandable M.2 storage.

Have you looked at the Certified Refurbished section of the Canadian Apple Store?

You are correct. Doing this would be one of the stupidest things Apple has ever done. Can you say, "light bar" ?
A lot of people mount their mini under the desk toward the back, so it's not readily accessible no matter where they put the power button
